SSS Awakening: I Can Class Change at will

Chapter 306 Second Sanctuary

Chapter 306  Second Sanctuary

She looked him over again with even more intensity, unable to believe what she was hearing. “That’s… that’s supposed to be impossible for an Awakener. How did you survive? How did you escape? Did someone save you?” Yara moved closer as well, her expression filled with awe at Moon’s apparent accomplishment. Unlike before, she now understood the difference of power between Awakeners and Evolvers.

“I got lucky,” he said simply. “The situation was chaotic enough that I managed to avoid the worst of it and escape when the opportunity presented itself.” Selene nodded thoughtfully before looking directly at him with expectant eyes, “Did you kill him?”

Moon remained silent for a moment, considering his next words. After a while, he decided honesty was appropriate given their close relationship.

“Yes, I killed him.”

Hearing his straightforward confirmation, a grin broke out across Selene’s face. “Good…Really good!”

Her reaction surprised Moon slightly. There was a tone of happiness in her voice, she understood the importance what he’d accomplished and approved of the outcome entirely!

Moon didn’t feel any malice, or jealousy coming from her… she was just happy for him.

Moon looked around at their current location, assessing the situation. The attacks were still ongoing in the distance, but their immediate area remained relatively secure for the moment.

Fleets of reinforcement vehicles adorned the sky above the city, carrying Evolvers and Awakeners who were rapidly deploying to combat the masked attackers from various zones nearby. The sight of the large backup arriving provided some reassurance that the situation might be brought under control after some time.

As they waited and observed the Association’s and various Group’s response, an Evolver suddenly crashed through the storefront window where they had taken shelter, sending glass shards exploding inward.

The injured fighter landed hard among the debris, immediately vomiting blood from what were clearly severe internal injuries. After a moment of struggle, he slowly managed to stand and pulled a healing potion from his equipment, drinking it quickly.

Before he could fully recover, a half-masked attacker descended from a nearby rooftop and charged directly at the wounded Evolver with a sword in his hand, ready to deliver a killing blow that would put an end to their bloody fight.

WHOOSH!

The attack was interrupted instantly as a lance of burning fire struck the masked figure squarely in the face. The attacker’s head exploded like a watermelon, painting the surrounding tables in red. The lifeless body collapsed to the ground among the scattered glass. The civilians that were hiding looked on in fear. Many could no longer hold their stomachs, vomiting out what they ate in the morning in one go. Moon turned to see Selene lowering her staff. Her expression was calm and focused, showing no hesitation about her earlier intervention.

The rescued Evolver looked toward her with gratitude. “Thank you for saving my life, I would have been dead without your help,” he said respectfully before consuming another healing potion to address his remaining injuries.

“You are welcome.” Selene nodded her head.

After a few moments of recovery, he nodded his appreciation once more and leaped back into the ongoing battle taking place in the distance, rejoining the fight against the attackers.

Her evolution to Evolver status had clearly enhanced not just her power levels, but her confidence in using those abilities when necessary.

“Nice shot,” Moon commented, impressed by her precise execution under pressure.

“We should keep moving,” Selene replied practically. “If injured fighters are falling back this far, the battle lines might be shifting in our direction. I could deal with a few Evolvers that have an acupoint or two open, but I can’t deal with stronger ones.”

Yara nodded in agreement, clearly understanding that moving was their best strategy for avoiding further dangerous encounters in this dangerous situation.

“Let’s go,” Moon confirmed with a decisive nod.

There was absolutely no reason for them to remain in this location, waiting for a more powerful adversary to arrive and potentially trap them.

As they began moving toward a safer area, Yara spotted a portal facility in the distance and pointed toward it thoughtfully.

“Shouldn’t we enter the Sanctuaries? Wouldn’t it be much safer for us there than remaining on Earth during this crisis?”

Selene glanced at the portal for a moment, carefully contemplating their options. Her previous plan was to head to her brother’s mansion, but that was quite far, and there was no guarantee that her brother would be there. ‘He might still be in the Second Sanctuary…and they might also be attacking his mansion. I can’t make matters worse, the attackers might take us as hostage to threaten him too.’

Selene’s mind headed towards the worst possible case.

“You’re absolutely right. It would be better for Moon to enter the First Sanctuary where he’s one of the strongest individuals present. Even if the base he’s stationed at comes under attack, Moon could very well turn the tide of battle in our favor.”

“What about us?” Yara asked with obvious concern.

“We should also enter the Second Sanctuary. I’m worried that this battle will escalate to even higher levels of power,” Selene replied grimly. “There has never been such a throughly planned, powerful attack on the Association before. Whoever is orchestrating these attacks might be preparing something truly catastrophic. It’s definitely safer for us to be in the Sanctuary.”

Her expression grew troubled as she looked at Yara.

“But will you be okay? We still haven’t purchased any Second Order weapons or equipment for you yet. We were supposed to handle that today…”

The timing of the attack couldn’t have been worse. Selene had just guided Yara through entering a Second Sanctuary portal to complete her evolution to Second Order status. Fortunately, Yara had successfully evolved without complications despite her unique racial background.

Following Selene’s careful instructions, Yara had immediately returned to Earth through the same portal upon completing her advancement. But their celebration had been short-lived as the attacks began, preventing them from purchasing the essential equipment Yara needed for Second Order survival.
