Six Months Contract With The Mafia God

Chapter 326: You Want Me To Run?

POV: DANTE

(2:07 PM)

Dante was in his private quarters on basement level one, reviewing the video message he was planning to send to Dimitri.

The message was designed to escalate the psychological pressure. Another image of Eve. Another demand. Another threat of what would happen if Dimitri continued to refuse cooperation.

It was perfect.

It was calculated.

It was designed to break a man psychologically while keeping his leverage intact.

He was still editing the video when the alarm started ringing.

The klaxon filled the entire basement with urgent, undeniable sound, and Dante’s entire body went rigid.

For a moment, just a moment....he didn’t understand what was happening.

The alarm meant breach.

The breach meant security failure.

The security failure meant....

The door to his quarters burst open.

Luca stood in the doorway, and his expression told Dante everything he needed to know before he even spoke.

"Boss," Luca said, his voice absolutely steady despite the alarm still blaring. "We have a situation."

Dante was already on his feet, already understanding the implications.

"Tell me," Dante commanded.

"Basement door," Luca said. "Storage room access point. Someone overrode the lock electronically. Extraction team breached the basement level approximately ninety seconds ago. They moved directly to level two. They extracted the target. They’re gone."

The words hung in the air like a death sentence.

"Gone," Dante repeated flatly. "You mean...."

"Eve is gone," Luca confirmed. "They took her. Professional extraction. Italian military precision. Estimated operation time: six minutes from breach to egress."

Dante felt something dark and terrible rise up inside him, not panic, but rage. Absolute, consuming rage.

"How is that possible?" Dante demanded. "We have security. We have protocols. We have...."

"We have a problem," Luca interrupted, his voice cutting through Dante’s rising fury. "And the problem is that only one man in this city has the resources, the intelligence, and the tactical capability to execute an extraction like that. And that man is Dimitri Valentino."

The name hung in the air like a curse.

Dimitri.

Dimitri had come for his woman.

Dimitri had known exactly where the warehouse was.

Dimitri had executed a professional-grade extraction operation in daylight hours in the middle of New Jersey.

Dimitri had succeeded.

And Dante had lost his leverage.

"This is impossible," Dante said, but even as he spoke the words, he understood they were false. This wasn’t impossible. This was exactly what Dimitri would do. Exactly how Dimitri would respond. Exactly the kind of operation a man like Dimitri would execute when someone took the woman he loved.

"We need to move," Luca said, his voice carrying the weight of tactical reality. "Now. Immediately. We need to leave this warehouse and disappear before Dimitri consolidates his forces."

"Run," Dante said, the word tasting like poison. "You want me to run."

"I want you to survive," Luca said flatly. "Because Dimitri is not the kind of man who lets this go. Dimitri is not the kind of man who negotiates after something like this. Dimitri is the kind of man who hunts. And he’s very, very good at hunting."

Dante understood immediately that Luca was right.

With Eve, Dante had leverage. With leverage, Dante could negotiate. With negotiation, Dante could potentially walk away from this with some advantage.

But without Eve....

Without Eve, Dante had nothing.

Without Eve, Dimitri had no reason to do anything except hunt him down and kill him.

"How much time do we have?" Dante asked, his mind already shifting from offense to survival.

"Unclear," Luca said. "But not much. Dimitri won’t waste time. He’ll be mobilizing forces right now. He’ll be tracking us. He’ll be positioning assets to cut off our escape routes. We have maybe thirty minutes before his forces are in position to prevent our departure from New York."

"Thirty minutes," Dante repeated. "To pack everything and disappear."

"We don’t pack," Luca said. "We leave. Right now. We take vehicles, we head north, we disappear into the mountains or Canada or wherever we can get to before Dimitri’s net closes around us."

Dante looked at Luca, understanding the tactical assessment, understanding that his second-in-command was right.

But understanding something intellectually was different from accepting it emotionally.

He’d been winning.

He’d had Dimitri exactly where he wanted him.

And now, in a span of six minutes, everything had collapsed.

"Gather the team," Dante commanded. "Full operational personnel. We’re evacuating the warehouse. Everything else is secondary to survival."

"Already coordinating," Luca said, pulling out his phone. "Vehicles are being prepped. Personnel are being briefed. We can be mobile within fifteen minutes."

Dante nodded, still processing the magnitude of what had just happened.

Isabella.

He needed to secure Isabella.

She was leverage. She was an asset. She was....

The thought stopped him cold.

Isabella was also a liability now.

Isabella was Dimitri’s ex-fiancée. Isabella was the woman Dimitri had chosen not to marry. Isabella was the woman who’d helped Dante kidnap Eve.

And Dimitri would absolutely use that against her.

Dimitri would use Isabella as a weapon against her own father.

Dimitri would break Isabella in ways that made simple death look merciful.

Unless...

Unless Dante could convince her to stay loyal. Unless Dante could convince her that he could protect her from Dimitri’s wrath.

But even as the thought formed, Dante understood the lie in it.

He couldn’t protect Isabella from Dimitri.

No one could.

Dimitri was a force of nature. A hunting predator. A man who understood that the best way to break enemies was to destroy the things they cared about or the things they felt responsible for.

And Isabella had made herself Dante’s responsibility.

"Where is Isabella?" Dante asked.

"Secondary quarters," Luca said. "Level two. I’ll have her brought up."

"Do it," Dante commanded. "I need to brief her on the situation."

Luca left the room, already barking orders into his radio.

Dante stood alone in his quarters for a moment, understanding with absolute clarity that everything he’d built, everything he’d planned, everything he’d calculated, everything he’d worked toward, had just collapsed in a span of six minutes.

The extraction hadn’t just taken Eve.

The extraction had announced to the entire underworld that Dante Romano had been outmaneuvered by Dimitri Valentino.
