Chapter 750: Chapter 750: The Undead King Attacks (Part 4)
Point-of-View: Cleo Nova
———————————————————————————
"Aaaand...BOOM!!!" Exclaimed Ciel, as she plunged her Explosion Blade into the right shoulder of an undead Omega Dragon, a devastating explosion bursting out as the blade burst its flesh apart.
Dozens of scales snapped off and flew off as she blasted the creature’s shoulder open, its right arm slumping down and hanging on by a thread. Ciel let out a giddy giggle and shuddered slightly, a wide grin on her face.
As the Omega Dragon tried to claw her off, its claws phased right through her body, right as I swooped down with atomic energy charged into my fists, balling them together.
I swung my fists down as I closed in, slamming them against the top of the Omega Dragon’s head. The energy erupted with immense force upon impact, splitting the large creature’s skull open.
Ciel hit the left side of its body with a volley of explosions, sending it stumbling across to its right as she blasted dozens of scales off the side of its body.
I then quickly flew back up as the creature shook me off and snapped its jaws at me, narrowly evading the attack as Ciel continued peppering it with explosions.
The Dragon whipped its tail towards her powerfully, an intense gust of wind erupting from the force generated by the swing of its tail. But it was no use, the creature’s tail phasing right through Ciel.
I then unleashed a deafening sonic screech at it, engulfing its head-...hm? Looks like this isn’t particularly effective, are its senses weaker than they were when it was alive?
As I veered across the air and fired down a flurry of atomic blasts at its right side, Ciel swiftly charged in, racing along the ground and leaping towards the Omega Dragon’s left leg as she closed in.
She drove her Explosion Blade into its knee, the creature collapsing as the concentrated mass of explosive energy erupted devastatingly, busting the Dragon’s knee open. This is my chance!
"<Partial Monstrification: Basilisk, Eyes>," I chanted, before firing out a rapid pair of petrifying beams down towards the Omega Dragon.
As my beams hit the top of its damaged head, the petrification rapidly spread out around that spot, turning the creature’s head to stone. It began to claw at its head, its movements getting stiffer and stiffer as the petrification spread down its neck and onto its torso, before spreading along its arms.
Ciel leapt onto its back and raced up as most of its upper body turned to stone. She came to a sliding halt just above the middle of its back, before unfurling a rapid barrage of explosive slashes with her Explosion Blade.
She blasted several petrified, rocky chunks off its back with each strike, before drawing her blade back as its Core came into sight. She then unleashed a rapid, powerful thrust of her blade towards the Core, striking it and shattering it to pieces as her Explosion Blade erupted upon impact, reducing the undead Dragon to a pile of rubble.
She hopped off its back and landed back down as cracks rapidly spread out, before its body fell apart and collapsed into a pile of rubble. Ciel deactivated her Spirit Fusion, her hair and eyes returning to normal as the glow around her body faded, before I followed suit and reverted back to my base form too.
"Even though it takes more work to kill the undead version, I think this thing would’ve been a lot tougher if it was still alive. The Dune Scorpion I fought before put up much more of a fight than this thing did," She remarked, as we regrouped.
"Yeah, it’s movements were pretty stiff, simple and straightforward, it was easy to read. And given how my sonic screech was ineffective, I don’t think its senses were particularly sharp either. I guess when turned undead, these creatures lose their instincts and their senses get dulled, they’re only able to follow their orders in an almost robotic manner," I surmised thoughtfully.
"Hm, yeah, that makes sense, their senses probably get damaged when they’re killed, and that becomes their new default when turned undead afterwards," She nodded, before adding as she glanced at her I-Watch, "Oh, looks like we’ve been sent Leto’s current location. Crap, Jaden’s fighting him all by himself...we should hurry and go back him up, he won’t be able to hold his own for long."
"Right, let’s go. He’s only temporarily immune to the instant death effect of Leto’s Death Scythe, so-...," I began, before trailing off as dozens of Calamity Level Mutants suddenly came charging in from all around us.
They rushed out through the surrounding alleys and piles of rubble, swarming and converging in on us. Shit, this is bad, we don’t have time for-...!
My train of thought was cut off as Ciel unleashed a flurry of explosions all around us, deafening blasts ringing out as she brought the Mutants’ charge to a halt, a few of them getting blown away.
"As much as I hate to admit it, I’ll probably just get in the way against Leto, since I’m not immune to his Death Scythe. Go on ahead, Cleo. I’ll keep these things occupied," Remarked Ciel with a reluctant sigh, reactivating her Spirit Fusion as she cracked her neck.
"Are you sure? There’s a lot of them-...," I began with a grimace.
"Come on, don’t make me say it twice, I’d rather join the main fight, so don’t rub salt in the wound. Go," She cut me off with a sigh, as she began charging up more explosions.
"Alright, then. Good luck," I replied, as I tapped on my I-Watch and opened the location we’d been sent.
"Right back at ya. Don’t die," She responded with a wry smile, as I began heading in the direction of the Leto’s location, following the map on my display.
Damn it, this is on the other side of the Sanctuary, it’ll take me at least a couple of minutes to get here. I’m going to need to rush as fast as I can...
