Secret Marriage: The CEO's Pampered Wife
Chapter 354 - 338: The Note Slipped into the Palm 1
"It’s possible!" Luther nodded, his eyes fixed on Georgia Thorne inside the glass room.
A moment later, Georgia handed an item to the man and walked out of the room, her expression grim.
The lawyer behind her hurried out with a file. "Mrs. Sheridan, you should understand Mr. Sheridan’s intentions. He doesn’t want to hold you back!"
"Then please go back and tell him that whether or not I’m being held back is my decision, not his. Even if he’s in here for another thirty years, I’m willing to wait."
"Mrs. Sheridan, you..."
Georgia turned her back, her expression resolute as she grabbed a pen and wrote on a slip of paper.
The lawyer looked at Georgia helplessly, finally placing the document folder he was holding on the corner of the table. "Well, Mrs. Sheridan, please give it some more thought!"
Only after the lawyer left did Georgia stop what she was doing, her gaze shifting to the file on the side.
Without a second glance, she tossed the folder aside, and the documents inside spilled out.
She shoved everything into her bag. "Sylvie!"
"Yes? Is something wrong, Miss Thorne?"
In Sylvie’s eyes, Georgia Thorne had transformed into a true iron lady.
Even when facing something as huge as a divorce, she didn’t forget about work, forcing herself to act as if nothing was wrong.
Sylvie’s heart ached for Georgia. After all, Georgia was still young. If she got divorced, she might have a better future ahead of her.
They ran errands all afternoon, and by the end, both women were resting wearily in the car.
Sam Yates passed a bottle of water back from the front seat. Georgia took it. "Thanks!"
He gave another bottle to Sylvie, who said gratefully, "Thank you, Mr. Sam."
That afternoon, the two of them went to several markets to buy the materials Joanne Donovan needed.
When she got home that evening, she was on the verge of collapsing from exhaustion.
She went straight to her room and slept for a while, only to be woken up by hunger in the middle of the night. She had no choice but to get up and find something to eat.
The housekeeper knew about Georgia’s pregnancy. Aware that Georgia hadn’t eaten dinner, she had stocked the refrigerator with plenty of food, worried she might get hungry later.
All Georgia had to do was heat it up.
When she turned on the light, the cat sleeping on the sofa stirred. It ran over, meowing all the way, and rubbed against Georgia’s ankles.
Georgia was ravenous. She ate much more than usual, until her stomach was completely full.
Perhaps because of the pregnancy, she was always feeling hungry lately. She was also sleeping more and more and had gotten into the habit of throwing up in the mornings.
The morning sickness was the worst part. She would throw up everything she had just eaten, leaving her with an empty stomach and making her so ill she saw spots.
After eating, she took a shower and went to bed.
She recalled Elliot’s words. ’Maybe in my current state, it really isn’t a good idea for me to stay by Erin Irving’s side.’
Lying in bed and breathing in the familiar, comforting scent, Georgia quickly drifted off to sleep.
「The next morning」
Just as dawn was breaking, she received a call from Sharon Ennis. "Mhm, okay!"
She hung up and went back to sleep, not waking again until nine o’clock.
When she woke up, she realized she was late for work. She hurriedly washed up and rushed out the door, completely forgetting that Sharon was coming over.
Sharon Ennis arrived at ten in the morning and rang the doorbell. The housekeeper answered.
"Where’s Georgia?"
"The missus went to work!"
"That girl, running off to work again!" Sharon grumbled, then noticed the smell of something like fish soup wafting from the apartment. "Are you making soup?"
The housekeeper nodded. "It’s for the missus."
Sharon was skeptical. "How is that possible? Georgia doesn’t like this stuff."
"But the missus has been drinking it for the past few days," the housekeeper explained. "Where I’m from, it’s what pregnant women drink!"
The housekeeper had mentioned to Georgia that it was good for pregnant women, so Georgia had forced herself to drink it.
It took Sharon a moment to process this. She stared at the housekeeper in astonishment. "What did you just say?"
"The missus has been drinking this fish soup for the past few days!"
"No, the part after that!" Sharon’s expression immediately became agitated. "You said it’s for pregnant women? Is Georgia pregnant?!"
’Oh my god,’ she thought, ’this is the best news I’ve heard in ages.’
The housekeeper, a beat behind, said, "You didn’t know?"
"So Georgia... she’s really pregnant!" Sharon was so excited she was nearly incoherent. "How far along is she?"
The housekeeper told Sharon everything she knew, finding it a bit strange that Georgia hadn’t told her family.
Ever since Elliot Sheridan went to prison, the Sheridan Family had been shrouded in a sorrowful atmosphere.
Finally, there was a piece of happy news that could lift some of the gloom from everyone’s hearts. The first thing Sharon did was call her husband.
On the other end, James Sheridan had just finished a meeting. He was stealing a moment to sip some tea when his wife’s call came in, and he picked up.
Hearing the joy in Sharon’s voice, he figured it must be good news.
And as it turned out, it really was.
Georgia was pregnant. How could that not be good news?
James Sheridan pressed, "How did you find out?"
"The housekeeper at home told me."
But that raised another question. If Georgia was pregnant, why didn’t she tell them? Why only confide in the housekeeper?
’Is she planning to get an abortion?’
It was no wonder Sharon was on edge. The current situation was a bit complicated. With Elliot in prison, the future of his relationship with Georgia was uncertain.
After discussing it thoroughly with James, Sharon decided to call Georgia first to feel things out.
Sharon had originally planned to call, but she was afraid it would be hard to talk things through on the phone, so she went to Georgia’s studio in person instead.
Georgia’s studio was in a decent location with a nice surrounding environment. There was a flower shop right downstairs.
"Excuse me, who are you looking for?" Sharon was standing at the entrance, peering inside, when a young woman popped up from behind her and asked.
"Um, I’m looking for Georgia Thorne. She works here."
"Oh, you’re looking for Miss Thorne. Come with me!" Sylvie pushed the door open and called out to Georgia, who was resting with her head on her desk. "Miss Thorne, you have a visitor."
Georgia had just been sick in the bathroom. Feeling dizzy and unwell, she heard Sylvie call her and hastily lifted her head.
She thought it was a client, but when her eyes landed on Sharon Ennis, she looked up in surprise. "Mom, what are you doing here?!"
"You’ve got some nerve!" Sharon said, carrying a bag. "I even called you this morning!" Inside were dishes the housekeeper had made.
Knowing Georgia was pregnant made Sharon feel a little anxious.
Georgia had never had a child before, and Sharon had no idea how this pregnancy was going, so she’d had the housekeeper prepare some food to bring over.
Seeing Sharon, Georgia finally remembered the phone call from that morning. "I forgot!"
She had been so sleepy at the time, she thought it might have been a dream. After waking up, she hadn’t had time to think about it at all.
"Why are your eyes so red? Are you feeling unwell?" Sharon asked with concern, noticing her eyes were red-rimmed and watery.
The housekeeper had told her that Georgia sometimes had morning sickness, often throwing up what she had just eaten and losing her appetite, only able to eat a tiny bit.
"I’m fine. I probably just didn’t sleep well last night." Georgia changed the subject. "Mom, what did you bring?"
"What else could it be? Just some food."
It was lunchtime, and the food Sharon brought was just enough for everyone in the studio to share.
Having just thrown up, Georgia had no appetite at all. She ate a few bites and then put down her chopsticks.
Sharon’s attention was focused entirely on Georgia. "How can you stop after just a few bites?"
"I’m not very hungry!"
"That won’t do!" ’Georgia is eating for two now,’ Sharon thought. ’If she only eats a few mouthfuls, how will the baby get any nutrients?’
"Georgia, come with me for a moment. I have something to ask you."
Sharon pulled Georgia by the hand into the glass room inside. "Georgia, I heard from the housekeeper that you’re pregnant. Is it true?"
Georgia was silent for a moment, then nodded.
"It’s such a huge thing! Why didn’t you tell us you were pregnant?"
Georgia didn’t say a word. She didn’t know how to explain.
A silence fell between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Sharon thought maybe her tone had been too harsh and had scared Georgia.
She let out a soft sigh and softened her voice. "You silly girl. Most women gain weight when they’re pregnant. Look at you, you’re getting thinner and thinner!"
She took Georgia’s hand. "We’re a family now. If something’s on your mind, you can tell me. Don’t keep it all bottled up inside and suffer alone, okay?"
Sharon remembered Selena Sheridan telling her about Georgia’s past—how she had lived under someone else’s roof from a young age, which must have been very difficult.
Thankfully, the girl had turned out well. She hadn’t gone down the wrong path like some others; she was sensible and well-behaved.
"Mom, that’s not it." Georgia shook her head. "I just hadn’t figured out how to tell you all yet."
"What’s so hard about it? You’re carrying Elliot’s child. This is wonderful news."
"But Elliot, he..." Georgia’s voice choked up as she spoke, and her eyes grew moist again.
"We’ll figure something out for Elliot. He’s in the prime of his life; we can’t let him spend the rest of it in prison. His father is already talking to people. I believe there will be new developments soon."
"Really?"
"Would I lie to you?" Sharon lowered her voice. "But nothing is set in stone yet, so don’t tell anyone."
Tears in her eyes, Georgia nodded repeatedly. ’It seems Sharon doesn’t know the full story either.’
’Maybe Dad and Big Brother know.’
