Secret Marriage: The CEO's Pampered Wife
Chapter 341 - 328: We All Saw the News 3
It felt as if she were sleeping in Elliot Sheridan’s arms, but when she reached out, she touched nothing but air.
Finally, she couldn’t hold it in any longer and began to cry. The facade she had maintained for days crumbled the instant the tears began to fall.
Georgia Thorne cried herself to sleep. When she woke up the next day, her eyes were as swollen as walnuts and shot with blood.
After waking up, she received a call from Erin Irving, who wanted to have a meal together.
Georgia Thorne wanted to refuse, but Erin Irving used his position as her boss to pressure her, so she had no choice but to agree.
She tidied herself up, put on some makeup, and hurried out the door.
Erin Irving was at a golf course. When Georgia Thorne arrived, he was in the middle of a game with a friend.
The weather was getting warmer, nearing seventy-seven degrees, but Georgia Thorne still felt a chill all over and had put on a knit cardigan.
Standing next to Erin Irving and his friend, who were in short sleeves, she looked like she was dressed for a different season.
"You’re here!" Erin Irving handed his club to the caddy and introduced her to the man beside him. "This is the owner of the studio I just invested in, Miss Georgia Thorne."
Then he introduced the man to Georgia Thorne. "This is Luther, a designer from Solara."
"Hello!" Luther’s Chinese wasn’t very good; the two syllables sounded extremely stiff and awkward coming from him.
"Hello!" Georgia Thorne replied with a smile.
Solari men are very romantic and know just what to say to please a woman and liven up the atmosphere.
He praised Georgia Thorne’s beauty in a string of Solaran, but unfortunately, she didn’t understand a single word.
She looked at him apologetically. "I’m sorry, I don’t understand."
Luther shot Erin Irving a look, signaling for him to help translate.
Erin Irving smiled at Georgia Thorne. "Luther is complimenting you on your beauty and asking if you have a man you like."
Georgia Thorne’s expression became stern. She said seriously, "Please tell Mr. Luther that I already have a husband!"
Erin Irving replied to Luther in Solaran. Although Georgia Thorne couldn’t really understand, she could tell from the look they exchanged that he hadn’t conveyed her exact message.
After the introductions, they went back to finishing their game, determined to declare a winner.
Luther asked in English if Georgia Thorne wanted to join, and she promptly refused. "Sorry, I don’t know how to play."
Georgia Thorne presented an impenetrable front to Luther, and he couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
He went back to playing with Erin Irving. The final winner was Luther, though it was clear Erin had let him win on purpose.
Afterward, the three of them went to lunch together.
Along the way, Luther was incredibly enthusiastic toward Georgia Thorne, his words and actions making his interest in her perfectly clear.
Georgia Thorne shot a sideways glance at Erin Irving, who was driving. ’I bet he didn’t tell that foreigner what I actually said.’
During lunch, Luther, in an attempt to show off his gentlemanly manners, did almost everything imaginable for her, which made Georgia Thorne extremely uncomfortable.
After lunch, Luther offered to drive Georgia Thorne home, but she refused.
She said in English, "I’m sorry, I already have a husband. You should save your pickup artist routine for other girls!"
After speaking, she turned and walked straight away.
She could hear Luther’s furious shouting behind her, as well as Erin Irving’s attempts to calm him down.
The day after they met, Luther showed up at her studio.
Erin Irving’s reasoning was that she couldn’t possibly manage the studio all by herself and needed more staff.
Luther had previously worked in Elysia and was very familiar with the fashion trends there. By working together, they could exchange ideas.
Georgia Thorne didn’t particularly like Luther. She found him too frivolous—he could confess his feelings to a woman he’d just met, and somehow make it seem sincere.
However, as they spent more time together, she discovered that he wasn’t as shallow as he first appeared.
Besides, he was an expert when it came to design, and she could indeed learn a lot from him.
A month passed—not too quickly, but not too slowly either.
When she was working, time flew by, but the moment she stopped, the days felt incredibly hard to get through.
She had discussed it with the lawyer and planned to visit Elliot Sheridan this Saturday.
The day before Saturday, something major and not entirely unexpected happened.
On Friday morning, all the city’s news media outlets were focused on politics.
At a press conference, the winner of the election was to be announced.
Quincy Rhodes and her opponent were seated at the front, both smiling for the cameras. Quincy was wearing a suit that Georgia had designed.
Georgia Thorne was cutting fabric with a pair of scissors, her head bowed as she listened to the host announce the results.
The winner of the election was Quincy Rhodes. A flurry of camera shutters followed, and in the studio, Sylvie let out an admiring sigh. "So impressive!"
Her hand, holding the scissors, faltered, and she snipped the fabric askew. She heard Luther exclaim, "Oh no!" followed by a long spiel mixing Solaran, English, and Chinese.
She paid him no mind, set down the scissors, and looked up at the television.
On the screen, Quincy Rhodes stood center stage, delivering her acceptance speech to the cameras, looking triumphant and full of spirit.
’So it really was her.’
Quincy Rhodes’s successful campaign was also thanks to her supporters, the biggest financial backer among them being Erin Irving.
Georgia Thorne lost all desire to work and picked up her bag.
"Hey, Miss Thorne, where are you going?"
"I’m a little tired today. I’m heading home!"
When she got home, Blue came over, meowing and rubbing against her. Georgia Thorne crouched down and picked it up.
"Good kitty, did you miss me?" Georgia Thorne gently squeezed its little paws. Blue rubbed its head against the back of her hand, meowing incessantly.
It was probably hungry. Its meows were particularly insistent, as if urging Georgia Thorne to hurry up and get it some food.
Georgia Thorne put it down, stood up, and walked toward the kitchen, with Blue following close behind.
She threw together a simple dinner to fill her stomach, took a shower, and planned to go to bed early.
But when she closed her eyes, sleep wouldn’t come.
Before, she couldn’t sleep because she was afraid of being alone. Now, she couldn’t sleep because she was nervous.
’Tomorrow, I’ll finally see him.’
She gripped the bedsheets tightly, buried her face in the soft comforter, and took a deep breath, inhaling his scent that still lingered there.
Georgia Thorne had waited a full month to see Elliot Sheridan, and during that month, she hadn’t had a single good night’s sleep.
Not even last night.
The next day, she dressed with special care and went to the prison with Sharon Ennis and the others.
However, a prison guard told them, "I’m sorry, but he’s only willing to see his lawyer. He doesn’t want to see anyone else."
"What did you say?" Georgia Thorne grabbed the guard’s arm forcefully. The man just repeated his apology.
In that instant, Georgia Thorne felt as if her entire month of waiting had been for nothing.
Sharon Ennis couldn’t believe it either. "You must have misspoken! There’s no way he wouldn’t want to see us!"
"I haven’t. Mr. Sheridan specifically said he would only see the lawyer and no one else."
Everyone present was speechless, unable to understand what Elliot Sheridan meant by this.
They were only allowed one visit a month. If they missed this one, they would have to wait another whole month.
"I’ll go in and talk to him first. Maybe he’ll change his mind."
"Okay, go ask Elliot why he won’t see us!"
The lawyer nodded and followed the guard inside, while the rest of them waited outside.
Selena Sheridan put an arm around Georgia Thorne’s shoulders. "Georgia, don’t be too sad. Maybe after the lawyer talks to my second uncle, he’ll change his mind!"
’I hope so.’
They waited outside. Twenty minutes later, the lawyer came out.
"Mr. Sheridan’s message is that he doesn’t want you to see him in such a sorry state. He needs some time to sort out his emotions."
"But..." Sharon Ennis stomped her foot anxiously, at a loss for words.
Georgia Thorne was silent.
She had gone through hell waiting for a month, only to get to the gate and not even catch a glimpse of him.
She was filled with unwilling resentment, but there was nothing she could do.
On the way back, Georgia Thorne asked the lawyer, "What did Elliot Sheridan tell you? You were in there for over twenty minutes."
The lawyer stammered, "Nothing much!"
"Is that so?" Georgia Thorne was clearly unconvinced.
To be honest, she didn’t believe that Elliot Sheridan would go to prison so easily, without putting up any fight.
His words of assurance from that night echoed in her ears.
’There must be something I don’t know, or something he can’t let me know.’
’Otherwise, why wouldn’t he want to see me?’
Georgia Thorne thought she must be going crazy. Otherwise, how could she have come up with such a wild idea?
The verdict had already been announced. She didn’t know what she was still hoping for.
Georgia Thorne didn’t sleep well and woke up very early the next day.
Only after washing up did she realize it was the weekend and she didn’t have to work.
It was only seven o’clock, and she didn’t know what to do. So she flopped onto the bed and started looking through old photos.
Most of them were from their trips. She hadn’t had time to look at them properly after they got back, but now she could look to her heart’s content.
It wasn’t just the photos on her phone. She remembered Elliot Sheridan had also imported the photos from his DSLR camera onto the computer.
’Right, his computer!’
She shot up in bed, threw off the covers, and got out of bed. ’It should be in the study.’
As she pushed open the door, Blue was meowing at the entrance. She hurried into the study, grabbed Elliot Sheridan’s laptop, and brought it back to the bedroom.
Blue was lying by her pillow, licking its fur. When Georgia Thorne sat down, it brushed its tail against her arm.
This was his work computer. As soon as she opened it, she saw many files.
Georgia Thorne’s eyes glazed over as she searched through the files before she finally found the photos.
There were several thousand pictures in the folder. Looking at some of them, she didn’t even remember when they had been taken.
The photos were like a timeline, chronicling every little moment of their past together.
She spent two hours looking through them until her eyes grew sore, and then she closed the folder.
Georgia Thorne wasn’t interested in Elliot Sheridan’s work and was about to turn off the computer when the name of a folder caught her eye.
The folder was named "Rhodes."
