Chapter 342 - 329: Sorry, I Have a Husband

Lately, whenever she saw the name Rhodes, she couldn’t help but think of Quincy Rhodes.

She hesitantly opened the folder. Inside were several other folders, some containing photos and others documents.

Curiously, she clicked on the photos. A few were the ones she had seen in court, showing Connor Donovan’s car accident. There were also pictures of Quincy Rhodes approaching the car with a strange expression on her face. And there was a photo of Quincy Rhodes with a man; the man’s face was blurry, but what was clearly captured was Georgia Thorne’s face.

Another folder contained information on Quincy Rhodes’s background and her planned, step-by-step ascent to the position of mayor.

The further she read, the more shocking it became.

’He had all this information in his hands. Why didn’t he release it during the trial? The car accident involving Connor Donovan was orchestrated by Quincy Rhodes. She and that man should be the ones in prison.’

There was also a folder on Erin Irving. After seeing all of this, Georgia felt like everything was a conspiracy.

’He’d deliberately put himself in danger. But why?’

Georgia admitted she wasn’t as smart as Elliot Sheridan, nor could she think as quickly. Too many complex questions were flooding her mind, and her thoughts were a tangled mess.

She had to see Elliot Sheridan!

A sudden joy began to grow wildly within her. She grabbed the cat beside her and hugged it tightly, tears of excitement welling in her eyes.

She immediately called the lawyer, asking to see Elliot Sheridan.

The lawyer relayed her request to Elliot, but his answer was the same as yesterday.

He would see no one but his lawyer.

’If he doesn’t want to see me, then I’ll just have to make him want to see me.’

Quincy Rhodes won the election for secretary, giving her even more power.

And as her financial backer, Erin Irving’s own status soared. He instantly became the man of the hour.

The two of them dominated nearly every news headline.

Erin Irving was in a good mood, and he even had time to pay attention to a small fry like her.

He personally came to the studio and invited everyone for a meal.

Georgia wasn’t interested and declined.

"What, not going to grace me with your presence?"

"Miss Thorne, please come with us! It’s more fun when everyone’s together!" Sylvie said, clinging to her side.

Otherwise, she’d be the only girl there with no one to talk to.

Unable to refuse Sylvie’s pestering, Georgia finally relented.

Sylvie hugged her and cheered, "I’ll go get my things!"

Dinner was at the Grandview Hotel.

It was Sylvie’s first time there. She was both timid and curious, whispering in Georgia’s ear.

During dinner, Sharon Ennis called and asked if she was coming home this weekend.

"I can’t. I have something on this weekend."

Georgia had stepped outside to take the call. At some point, Erin Irving had walked up behind her and overheard her conversation.

She jumped, clutching her phone. She quickly told Sharon Ennis something had come up and hung up.

She patted her chest. "President Irving, could you please not sneak up on me like that? You could give someone a heart attack. And eavesdropping is wrong."

"Where are you going this weekend?"

"Are you going to manage my personal time now too, President Irving?" Georgia shot back, her tone as sarcastic as ever.

But Erin Irving wasn’t angry at all. On the contrary, this was the Georgia Thorne he liked.

’If she were ever to become docile with him, now *that* would be terrifying.’

"I was going to ask you to go on a trip with me this weekend. What a shame!"

Georgia rolled her eyes, brushed past him, and quickly returned to the private room.

The atmosphere inside was lively. Sylvie was teaching Luther about Sinean drinking etiquette.

After downing a few glasses of baijiu, Luther’s fair face turned bright red, and he kept exclaiming how potent it was.

Since they didn’t have to work the next day, everyone let loose and drank too much.

Georgia only had a little and was perfectly sober.

Sylvie couldn’t hold her liquor but had drunk the most. Now she was passed out on the table.

Georgia patted her shoulder. "Sylvie, wake up?"

Sylvie whimpered, waved a hand, and mumbled, "Don’t bother me," before falling asleep again.

"Does anyone know where Sylvie lives? I can take her home."

"I do!" Felix Sinclair stood up, came over, and helped Georgia get Sylvie to her feet.

’As for Luther, he can just go back with Erin Irving.’

Sam Yates was always by Georgia’s side, acting as her driver and bodyguard.

They helped Sylvie into the car, and Felix Sinclair gave the address.

Just as the car drove off, two figures on a nearby rooftop retracted their gazes.

One of them made a call. "Follow her. I want to know exactly what she’s been doing these past few days!"

After the call ended, Luther, who had seemingly been passed out on the table, sat up. He propped his chin on one hand and elegantly poured a glass of red wine. "Is one woman really worth all this effort?"

"You never know!"

Luther pushed the filled wine glass toward him. "I doubt it! I’ve watched her for the last few days. She’s been acting completely normal. No secret phone calls, no unusual contacts."

"..." Erin Irving sipped his wine without a word.

’The fact that Georgia Thorne had made no moves at all is what I find abnormal!’

After they got Sylvie home, Felix Sinclair said, "Miss Thorne, you can head back. I’ll stay and look after her."

"Can you manage on your own?"

"I’ll be fine!"

"Alright then!"

Georgia usually lived in her apartment, but she would go back to the family home on weekends.

Georgia’s appetite had been poor the last couple of days. No matter what she saw, she didn’t feel like eating.

A wave of lethargy washed over her, and all she wanted to do was lie in bed and sleep.

’I figure it’s because of my recent sleepless nights, which now make me so sleepy I don’t even want to open my eyes.’

On this day, heading back from the studio, Georgia fell asleep as soon as she got in the car and didn’t wake until Sam Yates called to her.

"Ma’am, we’re here."

Georgia mumbled a sleepy acknowledgment. She was exhausted. She had been running around all morning and was incredibly tired.

"Thanks!" Georgia grabbed her bag and got out of the car.

Knowing Georgia was coming over, Sharon Ennis was personally making dinner in the kitchen. Hearing a sound at the door, she poked her head out. "You’re back!"

"Mom, I’m going to go up and rest for a bit," Georgia said with a yawn. As a mother-in-law, Sharon Ennis doted on her daughter-in-law, feeling for her as much as she did for her own son. "Alright, you go on up. I’ll call you when dinner’s ready."

As she started up the stairs, a disdainful snort came from above. Georgia looked up and met Aidan Sheridan’s furious gaze.

She didn’t have the energy to deal with it and tried to walk past him.

Georgia took a step to the side, but Aidan moved to block her way.

"What do you want?" Georgia asked, looking at him with weary resignation.

’I really don’t have the strength to deal with anyone today.’

"What on earth did you say to my sister? Don’t think my big brother doesn’t know about your little schemes. If he knew you drove my sister and Miles away, he would definitely hate you!" Aidan stood on a higher step, looking down at Georgia.

"Everything I said to your sister was for her own good!" Georgia was already on edge, and hearing any mention of Elliot made her even more impatient. "Go on then, make him hate me!"

’That way, maybe Elliot would actually agree to see me. It would be better than this, being like two strangers with no connection.’

Aidan’s face flushed. "No matter what you say, my sister would never leave."

Georgia pressed her forehead, feeling more and more that Aidan was just being difficult for the sake of it.

But he was also a patient. She couldn’t hit him or yell at him for fear that any agitation would land him back in the hospital.

"Talk to me when you know the whole story! I’m tired!" Georgia said, wearily heading upstairs and leaving Aidan behind.

Georgia was truly exhausted. She collapsed onto the bed and was asleep in moments.

She slept for nearly an hour before Sharon Ennis woke her up.

"Coming!" she called out, hurrying out of bed to open the door.

Sharon Ennis saw that even after a nap, she still had dark circles under her eyes. "Work is important, but your health is more so. If Elliot knew you’ve gotten so thin, he’d surely say that I’m a mother-in-law who mistreats her daughter-in-law!"

Georgia gave an awkward laugh. "I’m not that busy. It’s actually pretty relaxed, all things considered."

"If you’re really that tired, just take a break and rest at home for a while. Mom can still afford to take care of you!"

Georgia waved her hands dismissively. "No, no, it’s fine. I like my job."

’If I didn’t even have my work now, I really don’t know how I would get through the coming days.’

Georgia spent a comfortable weekend at the Sheridan Family home.

On Sunday, after dinner, she was heading back in the car. They had only driven a short distance when Georgia suddenly yelled for the driver to stop.

The moment Sam Yates pulled the car over, Georgia threw open the door, squatted by the side of the road, and vomited.

She threw up everything she had just eaten for dinner. To help her regain her strength, Sharon Ennis had specially made an old hen soup, saying it was nourishing.

Unable to refuse, she had drunk it all, but her stomach had started churning the moment she got in the car.

Seeing this, Sam Yates grabbed a bottle of water, got out of the car, and ran over to Georgia.

"Ma’am, are you alright?" He handed her the water bottle and some tissues.

Georgia had thrown up everything from dinner, but her stomach still felt queasy, and she felt the urge to vomit again.

Her eyes were watery and bloodshot. Georgia took some water to rinse her mouth. "I’m fine. Just feeling a bit sick."

She pressed her fingers against her stomach, rubbing it continuously. Sam Yates was about to ask if she wanted to go to the hospital when Georgia, who had just stood up, bent over again and threw up what was left until there was nothing.

After that, she was only heaving up stomach acid. Sam Yates patted her back. "Ma’am, maybe we should go to the hospital!"

Georgia waved him off. "No need!"

After throwing up, her stomach actually felt much better.
