Chapter 340 - 327: We’ve All Seen the News 2

In the twilight of one’s life, what meaning is there left?

Georgia Thorne told Quentin Chase she had something to do and that he should head back first.

Georgia went for a walk downstairs, then went to find William.

William was in his office speaking with a patient’s family, so she waited outside for a while.

"What can I do for you?" William asked, his eyes downcast as he flipped through the documents in his hand.

"Does Quentin Chase know about this?"

"Know about what?" William still didn’t look up.

"That the child isn’t Elliot’s."

At her words, the fingers turning the page paused. William raised his head, a look of intrigued interest on his face. "If not his, then whose?"

"She doesn’t know, does she? It seems you didn’t just deceive Elliot; you deceived Quentin Chase as well!" Georgia pulled out a paternity test report and placed it on the desk.

Owen Sawyer had given this report to her. This was the real test of the blood relationship between Miles and Elliot Sheridan.

Although the two were related by blood, they were not father and son.

"What is this?" William didn’t move, his gaze falling upon the document.

"Elliot and Carter Sheridan are full brothers. They looked alike when they were young. So, Miles doesn’t look like Elliot; he looks like Carter. Tell me, if Quentin Chase were to find out that the child she went through so much to carry and give birth to isn’t the child of the man she loves, what do you think she’d do? Would she hate the child, hate herself, or hate you, the liar?"

A moment of silence fell over the office. William tossed his pen aside. "I really underestimated you!"

"What do you want?" William asked.

"I want an apology from you."

"What?" William felt he must have misheard. How could he possibly be hearing something so absurd?

Georgia repeated herself. "You’ve tricked me twice now, after all. Don’t I deserve an apology?"

"You’ve recovered your memories?"

"What do you think?" Georgia shot him a sideways glance. "You have one minute to think about it. If you don’t apologize, I’ll go find Quentin Chase and tell her the truth!"

"You won’t do that, Georgia. you’re too soft-hearted!"

"Don’t be so sure! Everyone has the right to know the truth. No one deserves to live their whole life in the dark."

"You..."

William was angry, but Georgia just smiled. "An apology to avoid having Quentin Chase hate you. I’d say that’s a pretty good deal for you!"

William didn’t like Georgia Thorne. He hadn’t liked her from the very beginning.

Now that she had him by the throat, he detested her even more.

"Sorry!"

"I’d like a formal apology."

"...I’m sorry!" William muttered reluctantly.

"What was that? I didn’t hear you!" Georgia leaned in. "You’re too quiet!"

"I’m sorry!" William was incensed by Georgia’s innocent expression. ’She clearly heard me but is just putting on an act!’

"I forgive you!"

William’s face darkened. ’Who needed her forgiveness!’

He had never apologized to anyone in his entire life. He was grinding his teeth in frustration.

"I really don’t know what Elliot Sheridan sees in a woman like you!"

"What’s wrong with a woman like me?" Georgia retorted. "I happen to think I’m pretty great!"

William snorted in disdain. ’Great? Yeah, right.’

Georgia stood up. "Oh, and by the way, this woman like me has a reminder for you. If you really like Quentin Chase, you should tell her the truth. And be better to her. It’s not easy raising a child alone!"

William was speechless.

It was obvious that William liked Quentin Chase. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to help her.

Georgia left, leaving William alone in the office.

He picked up the paternity test Georgia had given him. It contained not only the results for Miles and Elliot but also the results for Miles and Carter Sheridan.

He opened the bottom drawer of his desk and pulled out another paternity test.

This was the original, real test between Elliot and Miles.

He knew what had happened back then. He understood that the child could only be Carter Sheridan’s and no one else’s.

In fact, when Quentin had first become pregnant, he had tried to persuade her to terminate the pregnancy. Even if the child were born, he wouldn’t have a father; he would have an incomplete family.

But once a lie begins, it takes countless more lies to cover it up.

Because of him, Quentin Chase became convinced that the person she had been with was Elliot Sheridan. She refused to terminate the pregnancy, insisting on giving birth to the child.

Even though she couldn’t return to Elliot’s side with the child at the time, she named him Miles.

The name she gave him was a constant reminder of the person she refused to forget.

Countless lies had led to the situation today. He could neither escape responsibility nor walk away.

He fed all the test results into the paper shredder. For now, all he could do was take it one step at a time.

When Georgia returned to the hospital room, Quentin Chase had already left with Miles. James Sheridan was keeping Sharon Ennis company.

"Dad!"

"You’re here."

James Sheridan was now running back and forth between the company and the hospital, making two round trips a day. He had lost a lot of weight, and the stress had aged him considerably.

Fortunately, Sharon’s condition had stabilized, and she would be able to go home in two or three days.

On the day of her discharge, Georgia made a point of taking time off to pick her up.

However, she happened to run into Byron Shaw and Naomi Shaw, who had come to visit.

Because of Naomi Shaw, Carter Sheridan and Hillary had divorced. As a result, Selena Sheridan particularly disliked Naomi’s presence.

She didn’t like Byron Shaw either. She remembered that this Byron Shaw was that eloquent lawyer; it was because of him that her second uncle had been sentenced.

She frowned the entire time, looking at the two of them with disgust.

Byron Shaw held a fruit basket. "Hello."

His tone was icy, as if he were dealing with a client at work.

Naomi knew the Sheridan family. She tugged on her younger brother’s hand, urging him to be more cordial.

These were Georgia’s parents-in-law, after all. They had to leave a good impression.

Naomi had mustered up her courage to come today. This matter had to be addressed openly.

Frankly, if it hadn’t been for Georgia, she might have accepted Carter Sheridan’s proposal and become James Sheridan and Sharon Ennis’s daughter-in-law.

Going from a potential daughter-in-law to an in-law by association was just unbearably awkward.

Naomi barely spoke; Byron did most of the talking.

James Sheridan had no issue with Byron, but Sharon Ennis was clearly letting her personal feelings show, not giving either of them a pleasant look.

Naomi gripped Byron’s sleeve, signaling him not to speak so rationally. They were the ones in the wrong here.

When Georgia walked in, the room was silent.

Sharon, changed into her own clothes, was sitting on the sofa with red-rimmed eyes, the traces of recent tears still visible.

"What are you two doing here?" Georgia asked, looking at them in surprise.

’At a critical time like this, their visit is bound to be met with resentment.’

Naomi gave an awkward smile and quickly stood up. "Georgia, you’re here!"

Just as Naomi was about to offer her seat to Georgia, Selena Sheridan, on the other side, cut in, "Georgia, come over here. I have something to tell you!"

Naomi was snubbed. She awkwardly smoothed her sleeve and sat back down.

Selena pulled Georgia down to sit beside her and whispered in her ear, "I don’t like them!"

That was just her personality. When she liked someone, she made it obvious, and when she disliked someone, she made it just as obvious.

Georgia sat stiffly. She had forgotten about the history between Selena and Naomi.

There was no way Selena could tolerate the "other woman" who had broken up her family. This was precisely why Naomi had repeatedly begged Byron not to reveal her connection to Georgia, so as not to put Georgia in an awkward position with the Sheridan family.

Naomi and Byron’s situation was extremely awkward. They didn’t stay long before leaving.

They had come, on one hand, to visit Sharon, and on the other, to see Georgia.

Georgia was strong, and the current situation didn’t allow her to be weak. There was no one to offer her a shoulder to lean on.

"I’ll see you out," Georgia said, quickly walking after them.

Naomi paused, then nodded. "Okay."

Georgia walked them to the entrance. "Don’t come back here anymore."

"Georgia..."

Naomi called her name, but Georgia had already turned and was walking back into the hospital.

In the days that followed, Georgia was busy as a spinning top, constantly in motion.

She had taken on three or four design projects and frequently had to go out to meet clients or procure materials.

A week had passed since Elliot’s sentence was announced, but the media’s interest in her hadn’t waned.

Almost every day, two or three reporters would wait for her downstairs at her studio, asking how she felt.

She tuned out all the noise, ignoring it completely.

Back when Elliot was out on bail, he had once accompanied her to meet a wealthy lady.

At the time, Elliot had acted as her assistant, helping her take notes.

Later, she accidentally discovered his traces on the last few pages of her notebook.

Elliot had beautiful handwriting, especially his own name, which he wrote in a flowing, powerful script. And it turned out he could draw, too.

On the last few pages were sketches of her. In the bottom right corner, he had written the date and "MY LOVE."

She had been so focused on her work at the time, completely unaware that the man beside her was secretly watching her, even taking up a pen to sketch her likeness.

The drawing wasn’t very detailed, but when compared to her, you could see the essence of her expression captured in the lines.

’When I see him again, I have to ask him why he lied to me, and why he drew such an ugly picture of me.’

After seeing the sketches in the notebook, she spent the rest of the day in a melancholic daze.

She was absent-minded in her work, her thoughts drifting even when she was speaking with Sylvie.

Sylvie saw the profound sadness in Georgia’s eyes and felt that this was how Georgia was truly supposed to be feeling.

That day, Georgia didn’t get anything done. She went back to their apartment early.

She didn’t want to eat. She didn’t want to move. Utterly exhausted, she collapsed onto the bed. The room was pitch black, and the lingering scent of Elliot on the sheets enveloped her.
