Chapter 1004: Chapter 989: Trip to the Police Station (7)
Hu Xiaodong and Hua Biao stuck their heads out one after another to look downstairs, and their faces turned solemn after seeing the situation.
Only Wei Dazhuang remained calm, not only lacking the expected tension but also displaying a bit of eagerness.
"Commander, what do we do now?"
Xu Renjie glanced at Hua Biao, calming himself. He knew that at this moment, anyone else could panic, but he could not.
After a brief consideration, he decisively ordered to go upstairs!
If they could put some distance, then they should.
Upon reaching the third floor, Old Xu halted everyone’s steps.
This was the maximum descent distance their ropes could reach. If they went any higher, they might indeed put distance from the zombies at the building’s base, but escaping would become impossible.
So Old Xu decisively chose the third floor as their landing point.
Upon reaching the third floor, Old Xu immediately gave instructions: "Everyone, hurry and move things from the rooms to block the path! Little Hu, come with me to check the situation outside the building."
To leave this place, they must choose a good descent point; otherwise, going down rashly would only lead them into a zombie ambush.
The survivors immediately got to work upon receiving the instruction. Wang Qiang, Hua Biao, Wei Dazhuang, and Derek entered different rooms to move tables and chairs.
Meanwhile, Hu Xiaodong and Old Xu investigated suitable escape points.
This was a race against time; if they were even a bit slow, the team members would be surrounded by zombies.
First, they entered the nearest room. Old Xu took a quick step to the window, peering out, and involuntarily gasped.
The sight filled the courtyard below almost entirely with zombies.
Old Xu suspected that creatures from the whole street had gathered upon hearing the commotion.
Fortunately, this place wasn’t densely populated, otherwise, if it were in the city, not even Old Xu’s superior skills could guarantee an escape.
"How is it?" Hu Xiaodong asked solemnly.
Old Xu turned and said seriously: "The front door’s blocked, we can’t rush out directly; let’s check another room!"
Since the front wasn’t an option, they could only try the side. After speaking, Old Xu quickly headed for the door.
However, just as Old Xu moved, the sound of shattering glass came from the adjacent room.
His mind buzzed instantly, recalling the order he had previously given. A chill ran down Old Xu’s spine.
"Jumpers!" I only considered the zombies downstairs, how could I have overlooked those climbing and jumping bastards!
With a bad thought in mind, Old Xu immediately sprinted to the adjacent room.
But even though Old Xu was fast, what he feared happened. Just as he worried, the "Jumpers" had stealthily ascended along the building walls.
Upon spotting prey moving inside, it wasted no time, crashing through the window directly.
Derek was focused on moving tables and chairs, and the sudden attack of the "Jumper" caught him off guard.
Completely unprepared, Derek was knocked down along with the chair in his hands by the "Jumper’s" assault.
Pain! The impact of the fall made Derek involuntarily cry out, but the fear was swiftly overshadowed by the emaciated zombie face pressing down on him.
The "Jumper" was clearly ready to feast, as it leaped, its open mouth aimed right at Derek’s neck.
Derek could even feel the unknown slimy fluid from the creature’s mouth, leaving him no choice but to instinctively lift his imitation Type 64 in hand and pull the trigger.
"Bang! Bang bang!" The repeated gunfire sounded until the bullets ran out, and Derek kept mechanically pulling the trigger.
"Derek!"
"Derek!"
Old Xu and Hu Xiaodong arrived simultaneously, and by the time they reached, the fight was over.
Within their view, the "Jumper" lay atop Derek, its open mouth directly over Derek’s neck.
With the floor covered in blood, Old Xu’s heart sank instantly.
"Derek! Derek!"
Without a doubt, if Derek died, Xu Renjie would never forgive himself.
After all, if not for his misarrangement, Derek might not have suffered such an ordeal.
Rushing madly to Derek’s side, Old Xu pushed the "Jumper" off Derek with his hand.
The strength was enough to demonstrate his anger at that moment.
Hu Xiaodong, meanwhile, decisively drew a cleaver, and as the "Jumper" landed, he aimed for its head with a slash.
The slash, filled with Hu Xiaodong’s anger, severed the creature’s head from its body.
"Derek! Derek!" Old Xu frantically shook Derek lying beside him.
Derek had not yet caught his breath after the "Jumper’s" heavy pressure.
With Old Xu’s shaking, Derek’s breathing surprisingly stabilized.
After a couple of violent coughs, Derek’s liveliness reassured Old Xu, who urgently asked, "How are you, Derek? Did that bastard hurt you!?"
Old Xu’s eyes scanned Derek’s body, and the sight of Derek covered in blood made Old Xu extremely worried.
"I’m fine! It didn’t bite me?" Derek responded with some difficulty.
However, Old Xu obviously didn’t believe the young man, scanning Derek’s clothes again, repeating incredulously, "You’re sure... it didn’t bite you?"
Noticing Old Xu’s doubt, Derek forced a smile, explaining, "This isn’t mine, it’s... that creature’s."
Raising the gun, Derek shook it twice: "I shot it, but unfortunately I was too nervous earlier, emptied all my bullets, haha."
The young man’s smile left Old Xu relieved. He helped Derek up and also smiled: "As long as you’re fine, I’ll refill your bullets later!"
"A gentleman’s word is his bond, Old Xu, make sure you keep your promise when we get back to the base." Derek pulled up a wooden bench again, pointed outside with a frown: "I’ll continue working."
Since Derek was fine, Old Xu decided not to dwell on it.
After all, now wasn’t the time to dwell; he still needed to quickly assess the outside situation to devise a counter-strategy.
The survivors busied themselves, and after about five minutes, they regrouped, and Old Xu reported his observations to everyone.
After listening, everyone’s brows furrowed, and no one spoke.
Reality was harsh. Through Old Xu’s detailed observation, the entire building was surrounded by zombies. The creatures seemed intent on trapping this tasty batch within the building entirely.
After a moment, Hua Biao proposed, "Commander, how about contacting Xiao Xin to drive in and break us out."
Upon hearing this, Old Xu immediately rejected the idea, "No way, we can’t let Xiao Xin come in. Calling him in now is pushing him into the fire! It won’t help us at all!" (To be continued.
