Chapter 1005: Chapter 990: Trip to the Police Station (8)

Old Xu’s refusal made sense given the current situation, with zombies surrounding both inside and outside the building. Even if Li Xiaoxin could drive in, Old Xu and his group wouldn’t have the capability to break out.

So instead of pulling Li Xiaoxin into a death trap, Old Xu would rather their side sacrifice themselves here.

But despite saying that, nobody wants to die just like that.

Especially Old Xu, who has survived numerous desperate situations before. In the past, he had endured relentless pursuits by hostile forces abroad. Now, should he submit in front of a bunch of mindless beasts? Clearly, that’s impossible.

"Old Xu, I think the only way out now is to retreat the way we came." Seeing no one speaking, Derek said in a deep voice.

Hearing this, Hua Biao furrowed his brows, glancing at Derek, and shook his head in denial: "Stop joking, little Derek, how can we retreat the way we came now? Look at the situation outside, we’ll be dead as soon as we touch the ground!"

"Not necessarily!" Derek didn’t give up and persisted in his viewpoint.

Old Xu saw the young man’s serious expression, not looking like he was joking, and immediately stopped Hua Biao, who was about to retort further, and calmly said, "Do you have some plan? Let’s hear it."

"Well, it’s not really a plan, but you all know about the zombies’ acute hearing. If we can draw them to a suitable location, then there’s hope for us to retreat the way we came, isn’t there?"

Squinting slightly, Old Xu nodded.

Undoubtedly, the young man’s suggestion made some sense. If they could indeed gather the zombies to a certain spot, they could use the ropes they carried to abseil down to safety.

So the question arises, how to lure the zombies? And where to find a place to "accommodate" these beasts?

Old Xu casually asked this question, and Derek replied without a hint of panic: "The area below us is the most suitable location."

Following the young man’s pointing direction, everyone turned their eyes to the stairwell entrance.

Wang Zhongyu blurted out, "Below us? Are you planning to gather the zombies at the bottom of the building?"

"Exactly! I’ve observed that although the number of zombies on the street is considerable, it’s nothing compared to the scale of the school. And the size of the first floor of the police station, combined with the courtyard, can accommodate more than twice their number. We just need to throw these objects down; the noise should be enough to lure them inside." Derek pointed again, this time targeting the defensive position they had just set up.

By this, Old Xu completely grasped the young man’s logic. He nodded in confirmation, "Yes, this plan is feasible. However, do not disturb the items here; for the thrown objects, let’s fetch them from inside to avoid mishaps!"

The zombies do have keen hearing, and they do tend to move towards sounds, but exceptions always exist, and you must guard against these continuously evolving beasts for new changes.

Should, when the things are thrown, the zombies do not pause at the building bottom as expected, and once they ascend, the survivors would have lost their final defense.

The only option would be a desperate fight with the zombies, and given their overwhelming numbers, the survivors have no chance of winning.

With Old Xu’s command, everyone moved immediately, and in no time, various "objects" of all sizes were transported to the head of the stairwell by the survivors.

After gathering enough items, Old Xu took the lead by picking up a teacup.

The teacup was made of ceramics and appeared exquisite, indicating it wasn’t cheap.

However, Old Xu was clearly unconcerned about the value of this treasure. He reached into the gap of the stairwell and then released his grip.

Timing with gravity’s assistance, the porcelain teacup accelerated as it fell and shortly after, the survivors heard a crisp shattering sound emanating from the building’s bottom.

Frankly speaking, the noise a single teacup can create is rather small, but in the silent stairwell, such a sudden noise was indeed startling.

As the sound faded, the survivors’ nerves were taut, listening intently for movement from below.

Soon, dense footsteps followed.

This was the sound the survivors hoped for; with these disordered steps, Old Xu immediately ordered, "Throw!"

Well, it’s likely that Old Xu and his crew had never done something so wasteful in their lives.

Setting aside tables and chairs, the office equipment, computer cases, and so forth, large and small, were all thrown to the bottom by the survivors.

In an instant, the entire building was turned into a scene of "chaos and noise" by the survivors.

Since the objects were tossed directly to the building bottom, the survivors didn’t have to worry about the zombies following the sound upstairs.

After about a minute of throwing, Old Xu returned to the room and lay by the window to observe the street.

As expected, affected by the continuous "noise" inside the building, the zombies began dragging their feet in an orderly manner into the police station.

Old Xu didn’t need them to completely enter the building, as long as the beasts were within the designated range.

"How is it, captain? Have they moved?" Hua Biao’s voice came from behind.

Old Xu glanced back, then quickly moved outside the room, nodding affirmatively as he spoke, "Everything’s going according to plan, let’s go outside and keep throwing."

To ensure all zombies were fixed within the designated area, Old Xu estimated that they would need to throw for a while longer.

Since the street isn’t particularly long or short, about 1 kilometer, they didn’t aim to draw all the zombies, but at least those near the police station must be rallied.

After tossing for about 2 to 3 minutes, just hearing the zombies’ howls inside the building was enough to gauge the gathered scale of beasts.

Wang Zhongyu dared to peek a look below, quickly retracting his head with an eerie grunt: "Oh man! It’s really bustling down there! I estimate there are at least 40 of them."

In reality, Wang Zhongyu had no idea how many zombies were at the bottom; all he saw were moving black shadows, but even so, it was enough to make him shudder.

"Old Xu, shouldn’t it be enough by now?" Hu Xiaodong paused his actions and asked for confirmation.

After all, overdoing it might backfire; excessive throwing might have unintended consequences.

Old Xu, naturally, understood this principle. He didn’t rush to respond but returned to the room to confirm by observing.

After a few minutes of confirmation, he finally issued the retreat order.

Retreating the way they came was clearly unrealistic given the current situation, but Old Xu, having already chosen a location, led the group to the back side of the building.

Since the noise originated inside the building, most zombies gathered at the building’s interior and front. By contrast, the vast open space at the back was devoid of beastly traces, giving the survivors an opportunity to escape.

But before that, they had one crucial task to complete, which was to establish contact with Li Xiaoxin outside.

Taking out the hand-held radio, Old Xu turned on the switch. Previously, for the sake of operational safety, the radio had remained silent. (To be continued.
