Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 1003: Chapter 988: The Visit to the Police Station (Part 6)
"Jumpers," these zombies that have adapted to the evolution of their bodies, although their climbing ability is not as good as that of "Climbers," have both jumping and climbing abilities, making them more versatile.
This adds considerable trouble to Old Xu and his team’s efforts to kill them.
Fortunately, they have the building to use, with its long corridor ending in a dead end.
And as soon as a "Jumper" enters, it is inevitably exposed to the survivors’ view.
In the past, Old Xu probably wouldn’t have had the confidence to deal with these beasts.
But now, with a gun and a bow in his hands, he feels he has the power to fight them.
"Old Wei! Have you ever shot a gun?" Old Xu pulled the 92 out of his pocket.
"Yes! I was in the militia reserve team of our village, but I’ve never fired this thing!" Wei Dazhuang looked at the 92 in Old Xu’s hand and replied honestly.
"Simple, you just need to do this, pull the slide, then aim at the beast’s head and pull the trigger like you do with a gun." He swiftly demonstrated, and Wei Dazhuang nodded decisively after watching: "Got it, I understand."
Putting the 92 into Old Wei’s hands, Old Xu pulled out a Model 64: "Xiaohu, can you use a Q?"
Hu Xiaodong nodded but didn’t reach out his hand. Although he was an athlete, due to practicing archery, he had some friends in Q club and had occasionally gone to his friends to shoot guns.
However, at this moment, Hu Xiaodong still felt, "Old Xu, I’ll just use a bow, give the gun to another brother."
Thinking about it, Hu Xiaodong’s archery skills are proven, and calling him to use a gun now would obviously weaken their strength, so Old Xu decisively agreed to Hu Xiaodong’s suggestion, then turned his gaze to Wang Qiang.
Unexpectedly, before he could say anything, Wang Qiang refused first: "I can’t!"
Concise and to the point, without a single superfluous word, Wang Qiang didn’t even turn his head, just stood at the door with his knife.
Old Xu paused for two seconds, then looked at Derek: "Little De, how about you? You should have used a Q abroad, right?"
Compared to Huaxia, the regulations on Q abroad are not so strict; as long as you want, you can legally obtain a Q.
And Derek is particularly fond of extreme sports, so how could he not know how to use a Q?
Nodding his head, Derek replied with a slight humility: "I’ve shot a few times, not very familiar."
At this urgent moment, Old Xu didn’t have the time to worry about Derek’s shooting accuracy. For him, having one more person means more strength, and these "Jumpers" are jumping around unpredictably, making it impossible to ensure everyone’s safety as he did with the "Pacers."
So arming everyone with a gun would at least allow team members to protect themselves.
"This is a Model 64. You probably don’t have it over there, but it works like a regular pistol — pull the slide, aim, and pull the trigger. Understood?"
"Understood!"
With the weapons distributed, Old Xu quickly instructed: "We have limited bullets, everyone try to conserve them. Unless in a crisis, aim before shooting whenever possible. You there... Hua Biao, don’t join the battle later. Assist in defensive work, and if the beasts break through, blow them up with the double-barrel shotgun for me!"
"Yes!" Hua Biao responded in a deep voice and decisively loaded bullets into the double-barrel shotgun.
After giving instructions, the noise in the building grew louder. Without needing to confirm the source of the noise, Old Xu was the first to rush out of the room, raising his gun decisively after scanning the situation outside.
"Bang!" A bullet erupted in the dimly lit building, followed by the 5.2MM round from the 95 automatic rifle being fired.
The zombies didn’t know what the silver streak flying in the dark was, causing it to even howl in excitement.
However, before it could finish howling, a hole appeared in its shriveled skull, and it tumbled to the side.
The beast’s fall caused its companions on the ground to stagger.
With the help of the stumbling zombie, Hu Xiaodong quickly reacted, instinctively drawing his bow and releasing the string. Although he didn’t pierce the target’s head with one arrow, he managed to affix a test arrow shaft into its right arm.
With the arrow shaft obstructing, the unfortunate zombie’s attempt to rise was delayed by a few seconds, and just as it adjusted its stance, another silver streak opened more holes in its body.
This time, however, the beast couldn’t continue its luck, as Derek’s steady shot accurately hit the unfortunate zombie’s head.
"Well done, Little De!" complimented Hua Biao sincerely, having a deep impression of Derek’s last shot as the only "fireman" in the field who could see everyone’s actions.
Perhaps motivated by Hua Biao’s praise, Derek fired another precise shot after finishing the "beaten dog," once again taking down an advancing Jumper.
Two shots, two kills; even Xu Renjie was a bit surprised by such results.
As a soldier, Old Xu knew the difficulty of hitting moving targets, especially in such a dim environment, where even professional soldiers might not have such precise shooting skills.
However, to say Derek’s shooting was accurate just because of this would be premature, as he missed all the successive shots afterward.
Wei Dazhuang’s shooting style was noticeably more cautious than when he wielded a knife. Due to the Jumpers’ erratic jumping, the impatient Wei Dazhuang wanted to throw down the gun several times and rush up to fight desperately with the beasts.
But hindered by Hu Xiaodong and Xu Renjie standing in front, this impulsive idea was "mercilessly" shelved.
Without the open space outside, Old Xu’s meticulously refined shooting accuracy shone through.
His near-instinctual shooting nerves drove him to take down the invading enemies with one shot after another.
With Old Xu’s precise shooting and the supportive defense of his brothers, the ten or so "Jumpers" intending to storm and enjoy the feast ultimately fell in the death corridor woven by the barrage.
After waiting for a few seconds to confirm no follow-up reinforcements, Old Xu signaled Wang Qiang and Wei Dazhuang to move forward and check the bodies of the beasts, lest they weren’t completely dead and reanimated for an attack.
Wei Dazhuang, having pent up a stomach full of frustration from the earlier battle, swiftly moved forward with Old Xu’s nod of approval, not bothering to confirm if the beasts were dead, going from one to another, slashing with the scythe to bleed them.
On the other hand, Wang Qiang appeared quite calm. Seeing Wei Dazhuang’s ferocity, he tactfully stood aside, keeping watch to guard against any danger.
With all the bodies given finishing blows, Wei Dazhuang casually flicked the blood off the blade, then turned and made an "OK" gesture to Old Xu.
Old Xu nodded, finally relaxed, leading the group downstairs. However, as the six-person group reached the hallway entrance, dense footsteps from the building’s base halted their steps.
Using the gaps between the stairs to peek down, Old Xu couldn’t clearly see the situation at the building’s base, but the dark shadows already told the whole story.
"Damn it!" Old Xu punched heavily on the building’s base railing, a move that immediately alerted the adjacent team members to the urgency of the situation. (To be continued.
