Chapter 671: Chapter 671: How Come I Don’t Know What Relationship I Have With Her?
Annabelle scoffed. "Someone else’s?"
She turned to Leona Grant. "Honey, what does she mean?"
Leona Grant kissed her and smiled. "It’s nothing. Probably just a problem with everything above her neck."
’Blind and brain-dead!’
He then gave Mrs. Yates a cool look. "Are you out of your mind? Everything I have, including my very person, belongs to my wife. You think she’s just borrowing my power?"
"Leona, you—"
Mrs. Yates was utterly mortified standing there.
’She had been calling him ’Leona’ so familiarly, playing the part of an elder, hoping to make him see this bitch’s true colors. And in return? He wouldn’t even give her the courtesy of calling her ’ma’am’ and was insulting her in front of all these people?’
But she still subconsciously blamed Annabelle, assuming she had whispered poison in his ear during their pillow talk.
’It’s all this bitch’s fault!’
Just as Mrs. Yates was about to lash out, Mr. Yates quickly restrained her. He adopted a placating tone with Leona Grant, saying, "Leona, that vase on the stage is a Yates Family heirloom. It was regrettably lost to our family many years ago, and I’ve been searching for it for a very long time. It was with great difficulty that I finally found it today.
"No matter how you look at it, our two families have been old friends for years. Let’s not ruin that harmony, shall we? This vase is truly of great significance to us. If it were any other item, I wouldn’t be pleading with you like this. Can’t you just do this as a favor to your elder?"
With that, he turned to Annabelle Linton and said with veiled insinuation, "Miss Linton, the Grant and Yates families have always maintained a very good relationship. Whatever grievances you have with our Vivian, that’s all in the past now. Vivian has withdrawn.
"This vase is very important to us. Surely you wouldn’t ruin the relationship between our two families over your own selfish whim, would you?"
Mrs. Yates shot her husband an appreciative glance.
’Nicely said.’
Just as Annabelle was about to speak, Leona Grant suddenly set her down and stood up.
His towering figure was a full head taller than Mr. Yates, and his intimidating aura filled the space before he even uttered a word.
Leona Grant let out a cold laugh and asked nonchalantly, "What did you mean, ’whatever grievances, that’s all in the past now, Vivian has withdrawn’? And what was that about ’our families being on good terms’ and Annabelle ’ruining the relationship over a selfish whim’?"
He stared coolly at Mr. Yates, his eyes glinting with a frosty light. "Our families are on good terms? Funny, I don’t recall us being on good terms. The Grant and Yates families have no business ties, nor are we long-standing family friends. So how, exactly, are we ’on good terms’? And what was that about grievances with your Vivian being in the past, that ’she’s withdrawn’? What did she withdraw from? Or let me rephrase: what is she, exactly?"
Leona Grant wrapped his arm around Annabelle. "The way you talk, one might think there was something between me and her. Annabelle is the only woman in my life. So I’m curious, what is this supposed relationship I have with her that I’ve never even heard of?"
His words left Mr. and Mrs. Yates so thoroughly humiliated they wished the ground would swallow them whole.
They had gone on and on about how wonderful the relationship between the Grant and Yates families was, even claiming they had watched him grow up.
They had called him "Leona, Leona" with such familiarity and had tried to lecture him, but in the end, he simply denied any connection. Worse, his tone made it sound as if they were the ones trying to suck up to him, which was just painfully awkward.
But what mortified them even more was that one line: "And what is she, exactly?"
Into the dead silence, Leona Grant spoke again, his tone flat. "What does your family heirloom have to do with me? All I know is that my wife likes it, so I’m buying it. Or should I disappoint her for your sake? Do you really think you’re that important?"
