Chapter 672: Chapter 672: Husband, I Don’t Want This Vase Anymore

Her words were utterly merciless. Mr. and Mrs. Yates’s expressions were beyond ashen.

Her face dark, Mrs. Yates pointed a finger at Annabelle Linton and said accusingly to Leona, "Leona, that’s no way to talk. Your mother and I are such good friends, and I watched you grow up. You used to be so respectful, always calling me ’Auntie’ when you saw me. But what about now? No respect for your elders, utterly arrogant, and you don’t give your seniors the time of day! And isn’t it all the fault of this vixen next to you? Would you have turned out like this if not for her?!"

It seemed that no matter what, she could always twist things to pin the blame on Annabelle Linton.

Annabelle Linton was so amused she was nearly speechless.

"Is that so."

A faint smile played on Annabelle Linton’s lips as she raised an eyebrow. "So, you’re saying this is all my fault?"

"Yes! It’s all your fault, you bitch!"

"Hah."

Annabelle Linton let out a short laugh, then glanced impassively at the host on stage. "Alright then, we’ll say it’s my fault. But Mrs. Yates is supposed to be a member of high society, isn’t she? Why does she have to be so disrespectful? Tonight is a charity gala. We’re essentially doing charity under the guise of an auction. If this wasn’t for charity, would we have spent so much? Is that vase really worth three hundred million? I just never imagined that trying to do a good deed would get us accused of disrespecting our elders and even sowing discord..."

The crowd broke into an uproar as people began to whisper amongst themselves.

Audience Member A: "That’s right. Auctions are all about the highest bidder. Besides, it’s a shabby seven-and-a-half-million vase, where does she get off saying it’s worth three hundred million? Just because it’s their family heirloom, no one else is allowed to buy it?"

Audience Member B: "Those people are dropping so much money for charity, while you all wanted to show off but couldn’t pony up the cash. Now you’re blaming them for stealing your thunder? Unbelievable. Making a scene when you’re broke... I don’t know where they find the gall."

Audience Member C was even more ruthless. "Of course she’s got the gall. Didn’t you hear? She knows Young Master Grant’s mother. Looking at her, I’d bet she was trying to marry her daughter into the Grant Family, but didn’t expect Young Master Grant to only have eyes for Mrs. Grant. So now she’s jealous and can’t stand her. Can’t you tell? Everything she says, one way or another, is a jab at Mrs. Grant."

"Yeah, exactly..."

Hearing the murmurs, Mrs. Yates glared angrily at Annabelle Linton. "What’s the use of saying all those pretty words? You still claim you aren’t targeting me?! If you were so keen on charity, you could have bought anything. Why did you insist on buying our family’s heirloom?"

Annabelle Linton feigned a look of sudden realization, covering her mouth as she turned to Leona Grant in mock shock. "Oh, wow, now that she mentions it, that’s true! I was just so focused on using this chance to do as much good as possible that I didn’t think it through. It seems my good intentions backfired! Darling, I don’t want this vase anymore. Let’s buy something else. Since it’s their family heirloom, we should just let them have it. After all, our purpose is charity, so it doesn’t matter what we buy."

Mrs. Yates froze, unable to process Annabelle’s abrupt change in attitude.

’What a little actress.’

Leona Grant looked down at her, stroking her head gently as she said softly, "It’s alright. I’ll buy you whatever you like."

Wow...

Young Master Grant’s sudden shift in demeanor was enough to make hearts melt. And that gentle stroke of her head...

"I’ll buy you whatever you like..." So sweet...

It was enough to make anyone damn jealous!

Annabelle Linton shook her head, her expression warm as she said, "Anything is fine with me. Since it’s their family heirloom, we should just let them have it. It was my fault, too. I got angry and wasn’t thinking straight."
