Dawn didn't break; it bled through a violet haze choking the skyscrapers. Team Blaze didn't pause. Boots splashed through ash-clogged gutters beneath flickering streetlamps as they tore through the financial district, the metallic tang of burning ozone heavy on their tongues.

"Network's collapsing inward!" Adrian screamed over the comms, static buzzing violently in their ears. "Ten minutes to the City Hall mainframe, or the grid goes critical!"

"Let it," Joshua snapped, slamming a fresh energy cell into his hilt with a loud clack.

Ahead, City Hall loomed like a jagged monolith trapped in a lattice of pulsing, organic crystal. A barricade of void-cannon drones whirred to life across the grand marble staircase, barrels whining with lethal intent.

"Shane, clear the lane!" Mei ordered, her cold voice cutting through the mechanical hum.

Shane dropped his shoulder, his golden aura exploding into a solid-state rampart. He plowed through the barricade like a freight train, the bone-rattling crunch of titanium shrapnel echoing across the wet steps. Joshua and Lucien streamed through the gap, cleaning out the remaining units in a heartbeat. Mei vaulted the shattered iron doors, her obsidian daggers carving the locks clean off in a shower of sparks.

Inside, the air was a freezing vacuum that burned their lungs. A churning vortex of black mist spiraled up toward the executive suites, anchored by a towering avatar suspended in an obsidian shell.

The faceless head snapped down. A soundless pressure wave shattered every window in the hall, sending a rain of crystalline glass cascading onto the stone.

"You broke the toys," a voice echoed directly inside their skulls, smooth, metallic, and sickeningly calm. "Now come see the maker."

The floor blew apart beneath them. A fault line ripped through the marble with a deafening roar, collapsing the grand staircase into a vortex of black mist and flying concrete.

Joshua planted his greatshield, slamming his skill into the fractured stone to shield the wounded Hunters with a wall of golden light, his muscles straining against the kinetic feedback. Across the abyss, Lucien's crimson hex-chains lashed out, wrapping around the avatar's suspension cables with a metallic shriek to slow its catastrophic descent.

Mei ignored the chaos, her keen eyes locking onto the eastern wall. Behind the shattered marble, a narrow steel bridge spanned the service wing.

"Shane, smash the wall!"

Shane drove his tower shield into the masonry, shattering the stone and exposing the bridge.

"Lucien, don't cut the cables—redirect the tension around that column!" Mei barked, realizing the collapsing roof would crush them all.

Lucien shifted his chains, snapping them around a surviving structural pillar to pull the avatar's weight away from their escape path. Shane ushered the wounded across first. Joshua extended his barrier over the span as Mei crossed, the steel groaning loudly beneath their weight just as the avatar tore against its restraints.

"Now!"

Lucien released the chains and sprinted for the service entrance as the freed cables dragged the ceiling down behind him in a blinding cloud of dust. Concrete crashed across the bridge, cutting off the avatar as Lucien cleared the threshold. Joshua pulled his barrier inward, slamming the heavy blast doors shut behind them.

For the first time, solid ground lay beneath their boots. Emergency lights bled red along walls carved with black symbols—containment seals.

Mei froze, a cold horror gripping her chest. They were identical to the markings from the chamber where she had become the Eternal Seal in her first life. Violet light surged across the floor as her shadow crossed the inscriptions.

ETERNAL SEAL: COMPATIBLE SUBJECT DETECTED.

Joshua stared at the glowing message, his pulse hammering against his ribs. "Mei—"

She silenced him with a flick of her hand. Ahead, a massive circular door wrapped in heavy chains ground open, bearing the emblem of the Void Heart. The avatar hadn't been protecting City Hall; it had been guarding whatever lay beneath it. And whatever waited below already knew her name.

A black data crystal dropped from the ceiling, shattering at their feet.

The jagged fragments flared to life, violently replaying the ghosts of a broken timeline—a projection cast from the archives of Team Shadow.

Joshua appeared first, trapped in the burning core of a collapsing fortress. Smoke clawed at Mei's lungs as she fought through falling debris in the memory, ignoring the heat searing her skin. Joshua's armor was split open, blood running from his mouth, yet he managed that same crooked, stubborn smile.

"Run, Mei."

A heavy support beam crashed between them. Mei screamed, lunging forward just as the floor gave way, swallowing Joshua into fire and stone.

The memory twisted forward, accelerating into betrayal. Fei—Team Shadow's elite operative—stood alone in a dim archive, blue light washing across her cold, calculating face as she read an Architect record. Her fingers tightened around the crystal: ETERNAL SEAL — COMPATIBLE HOST: MEI. Fei's expression hardened into ruthless ambition. She copied the file for Team Shadow's council.

The scene shifted to the final campaign. Mei walked beside Fei through a dust-choked corridor, weapons lowered in absolute, foolish trust. While Mei studied the tactical map, Fei quietly disabled the emergency beacon. A warning light flipped from green to black. When the others questioned the eastern passage later, Fei answered with a smooth, unwavering lie.

"The core is this way." And Mei had followed the rival operative straight to the slaughter.

The memory slammed into the Seal chamber. Heavy doors slammed shut.

Mei spun on her heel in the projection. "Open them!"

Fei stood frozen by the dead control panel, her Team Shadow crest gleaming under the dim lights. "I couldn't let you stop us."

"You lied to me. You chose me!"

Fei's face crumpled, a flash of raw conflict breaking her icy facade. "I knew you would refuse!"

"You were supposed to trust me enough to let me choose!"

The chamber shook. Black light erupted from the floor as chains bound Mei's arms. When Fei reached out, Mei violently pulled away, her voice laced with absolute venom. "You were the one person I trusted."

The Void Heart swallowed Mei whole. Fei's scream tore through the dark before the crystal went black.

Silence slammed back into the present. Pale letters slowly etched themselves across the fractured crystal on the floor:

JOSHUA — DECEASED

MEI — ETERNAL SEAL

DATA ORIGIN: TEAM SHADOW ARCHIVES

Joshua's jaw set into iron, his hand reflexively dropping to his sword hilt as he realized the sheer depth of Team Shadow's past treachery. Lucien narrowed his eyes, a lethal smirk playing on his lips, while Shane took a heavy step forward, his shield hum radiating cold fury.

The crystal cracked down the middle with a sharp snap.

PREVIOUS TERMINATION: FAILED.

Something massive stirred beneath the dark water pooling at the end of the passage.

Across the city, Team Shadow might be tracking this exact core, and Fei was undoubtedly hunting the same prize from the dark—but here, standing beside Team Blaze, Mei felt no fear. Only an icy, unwavering clarity.

The black crystal split wide open, and an enormous pair of ancient, glowing eyes opened beneath the water.

Mei drew her twin obsidian daggers with a swift, lethal hiss of steel, stepping to the front of Team Blaze.

"They tried to use me as a key in the last life," Mei whispered, her voice dropping into a razor-thin, deadly edge as Joshua, Shane, Lucien, and Adrian fell seamlessly into formation at her back. "Let's show Team Shadow what happens when the key breaks the lock."

The darkness surged, boiling up against the stone, and Team Blaze moved as one.
