When the couple got home, Qin Wenhao asked, “I made some dumplings tonight. You must be hungry! Should I boil some for you?”

Fu Mingxue wasn’t particularly hungry.

“Let’s skip it for tonight and have them for breakfast tomorrow. Of course, if you’re hungry, then go ahead and cook some.”

“I’m not hungry either. I’ll boil the dumplings for you tomorrow morning, then.”

“Okay!” Fu Mingxue went into the room first to grab her clothes for a shower.

Qin Wenhao knew she liked to be clean, so he didn’t say anything.

Fu Mingxue’s shower was quick this time, since she had already washed up in the afternoon.

By the time she returned to the room, Qin Wenhao had already gotten the quilt ready.

With the electric fan running, the room wasn’t too stuffy.

“Honey, it’s getting late. Let’s get to sleep.”

Fu Mingxue lay down. Although Qin Wenhao desired her, it was too late, and he couldn’t bear to tire his wife out any further.

“Sleep now, honey.”

With a pull of the cord, the light went out, and Qin Wenhao pulled her into his arms.

Fu Mingxue: ‘…?’

‘We could have slept a little farther apart, you know.’

‘After all, in this weather—cuddling is really hot.’

‘Good thing there was still a fan blowing—’

Before she knew it, she was dead to the world.

When she woke up the next day and checked her watch, she saw it was already 6:30 AM.

‘Looks like I slept really soundly.’

Just then, the door opened.

“Honey, you’re awake. It’s still early, you can sleep a little longer.”

“No, I’m good.”

“Then get up and have some dumplings. I’ll go boil them.”

“Okay.”

Qin Wenhao walked out.

By the time Fu Xue got out of bed and washed up, Qin Wenhao had already finished boiling the dumplings and dished them out.

“Honey, come and eat.”

Fu Mingxue walked over and sat down.

“These are great. Your skills are really getting better and better.”

‘Soldiers really are a different breed. Look at how nearly identical each dumpling is in size and shape. It’s quite impressive.’

Hearing her praise, a smile spread across Qin Wenhao’s face.

“Hurry and taste them. These two are pickled cabbage flavor, and the rest are pure meat filling.”

Hearing this, Fu Mingxue couldn’t help but look up at him.

She asked curiously, “Why did you make two different fillings? And where did you get this pickled cabbage?”

“I got the pickled cabbage and meat from the canteen. Hurry and eat. They’ll get clumpy if you wait, and they taste best right after they’re cooked.”

Seeing this, Fu Mingxue didn’t press the matter.

She quickly picked up her chopsticks.

After she ate one, Qin Wenhao asked, “How does it taste?”

“Really good,” Fu Mingxue said, giving him a thumbs-up.

Qin Wenhao was, of course, overjoyed that his wife liked them.

There was no refrigerator in their family housing unit.

Qin Wenhao didn’t want his wife to eat what was made the previous night.

So, he had gone to the canteen early in the morning to get a piece of fresh meat.

Then he had minced it all over again for a new filling.

As for the filling left over from last night—of course, he would eat that himself.

Of course, Fu Mingxue knew nothing about any of this.

She had gone to bed early the night before, and when Qin Wenhao got up, his movements were exceptionally light.

Since he didn’t want to be discovered, there was no way Fu Mingxue would have been woken up.

Qin Wenhao cherished these moments when it was just the two of them having breakfast together.

Just then, a knock came from outside.

Qin Wenhao stood up. “Honey, you keep eating. I’ll go see who it is.”

He walked over and opened the door to find their next-door neighbor, Wang Xiang.

“Sister-in-law, what can I do for you?”

Wang Xiang immediately handed over the basket she was holding.

“These are some steamed buns I made this morning. They’re quite good. I brought them for you to try.”

The steamed buns she made were also very large.

She had brought five in total, and they looked like a full basket.

“Sister-in-law, you don’t have to—”
