Chapter 448: She’s Not a Wicked Mother-in-law

  • Next Chapter

"How many months along is she?" Mrs. Fu asked.

Fu Mingxue wasn’t particularly curious, but she wasn’t entirely indifferent either.

"A little over three months," Mrs. Qin said.

Her eldest daughter-in-law was pregnant, so of course she was happy.

’She couldn’t very well say she didn’t want her eldest daughter-in-law to have the baby, could she?’

’She wasn’t some wicked mother-in-law, after all.’

It was just... her heart ached for the two children.

Their father had divorced and remarried so quickly. They still hadn’t gotten used to the stepmother who had barged into their lives and stolen their father’s attention.

And now, they had to face the arrival of another child from their father.

’Honestly... she almost wanted to smack her eldest son.’

’Hadn’t they agreed that his wife wouldn’t rush to have a baby?’

’She had thought that since Gao Lan was so set on getting into college, she’d at least wait until after she got in to have kids!’

’But no, she’d gone and gotten pregnant just like that.’

Ever since the two children learned that their father and stepmother were going to have a baby, they had both grown much more withdrawn.

Mrs. Fu did a quick mental calculation. That pregnancy had certainly happened quickly.

"If she’s still having morning sickness, that must be tough. She really needs to be well taken care of."

Fu Mingxue had no desire to join this conversation.

After all, in both her past life and this one, she had never had children. She truly didn’t understand a thing about it.

"Mom, I think I’ll go take a shower first."

"Alright, you go on ahead. But don’t take too long. We’ll be eating soon."

"I know." Fu Mingxue went into her room.

She glanced around her bedroom. It was spotless. The quilt on the bed was folded neatly.

It smelled of sunshine.

’Her mother-in-law was so thoughtful.’

She grabbed her clothes and went to shower in the small, separate bathroom.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Fu took out the local delicacies and dried goods she had brought for Mrs. Qin.

"These are all excellent. Take them with you when you head back later."

Mrs. Qin looked and saw it was quite a spread: dried bamboo shoots, preserved mustard greens, cured pork, all sorts of mushrooms, and even two dried wild rabbits. These were all things you couldn’t get in the city.

"Why did you bring so much?"

’No wonder she had so much luggage.’

’They were all packed in a fertilizer sack!’

Mrs. Fu said, "They’re all very fresh, and you can’t buy them here. They won’t go bad, so you can just take some out whenever you feel like eating."

Mrs. Qin was, in fact, very fond of these kinds of dried goods.

They were a rare sight here, after all.

Her face lit up. "You’re far too kind. Looking after two kids is hard enough on its own, I can’t believe you also prepared so many things. But this is too much. I’ll just take a third; you need to keep some for yourselves for the New Year."

"The New Year’s holiday is only a few days. How could we possibly eat all this? We’ve already set aside a small bag for ourselves. You take the rest."

"If you don’t take them, we’ll just have to lug them all the way back. These things are scarce here, but we have them in abundance where I’m from."

Seeing her insistence, Mrs. Qin had no choice but to accept with a smile.

"Alright, then. I’ll take them when I leave. But just leave one of the rabbits for us."

When Mrs. Fu saw her set one aside, she didn’t press the issue.

Just as the two mothers-in-law finished sorting through the items, Fu Mingxue emerged, having quickly finished her shower.

She felt like she was finally alive again.

Just then, Aunt Li emerged from the small kitchen. "Dinner is ready!"

"Hao Hao, Keke, come out for dinner!"

At Mrs. Qin’s call, the two children came running out of their room.

They had just been playing on the heated bed!
