Chapter 449: A Good Mother-in-Law Is Extremely Important

"Go wash your hands first," Mrs. Fu said, remembering she hadn’t washed their faces yet.

So she went and fetched some hot water, then grabbed a towel to wash their faces and hands.

As for the children not having bathed in three days—they had just been in the sleeper car on the train, so they weren’t dirty.

Never mind three days; it wouldn’t have mattered even if it had been seven.

Fu Mingxue helped set the table. Once the two women brought the children over, she began to serve them rice.

Mrs. Qin said, "They can just stand here to eat."

There was room at the table. If they stood on chairs, they would be able to reach the food.

Fu Mingxue nodded. "Alright!"

She then placed some food into the two children’s bowls.

Mrs. Qin and Mrs. Fu were busy picking the bones out of the fish for the two children.

Fu Mingxue called out to the person still in the kitchen:

"Aunt Li, stop fussing around and come eat with us."

"Yes, I’m coming!"

Aunt Li carried the last large platter of dumplings to the table and then sat down.

"Aunt Li, this braised pork is delicious," Fu Mingxue praised.

This made Aunt Li overjoyed. "If you like it, have some more. And the dumplings, too. You said you loved them last time, so have a few more now."

Fu Mingxue was happy to oblige. She tried a bit of everything and followed up with a round of praise.

’I have to admit—while Mom’s cooking is delicious, you can get tired of anything if you eat it all the time.’

’Eating someone else’s cooking for a change tastes absolutely amazing!’

By the end of the meal, not only had the two children eaten their fill, but Fu Mingxue was also exceptionally full.

After everyone had finished eating, Aunt Li cleared the table and took the dishes to the kitchen to wash.

Mrs. Fu felt it wouldn’t be right to let her do all the work alone, so she naturally insisted on helping.

Aunt Li couldn’t talk her out of it, so she had no choice but to let her.

Mrs. Qin was a step too slow, so there was nothing left for her to do.

She looked at her daughter-in-law. "Mingxue, are you going to school tomorrow?"

"I’m going to head to the school for a bit this afternoon."

She had originally planned to help clean and organize the courtyard house this afternoon.

But her mother-in-law and Aunt Li had already cleaned the courtyard, inside and out, until it was spotless.

They had even tidied up her own room, so she didn’t need to do it herself.

Fu Mingxue explained, "There’s only a month left before winter break."

Even if she didn’t go to school, she still needed to focus on her design blueprints.

The timing was indeed tight.

"Then you must come over for dinner tonight. The grandparents are so looking forward to having you all home for a meal! They’ve been talking nonstop about Hao Hao and Keke, too."

"Mom, don’t worry, we’ll definitely be there," Fu Mingxue said immediately. "I’m just popping over to the school for a bit. I’ll be home early."

"Alright." Mrs. Qin stayed for a while longer.

However, considering that they still needed to unpack and were surely tired from spending several days on a train, she realized they needed a proper rest. So, she left with Aunt Li.

She took the bag of dried goods with her.

Meanwhile, Fu Mingxue got ready to go to the school.

"Mom, I’m heading to the school for a bit."

"Go on and take care of your business," Mrs. Fu replied. Though the house didn’t need any more cleaning, she herself still had plenty to keep her busy.

However, as her gaze fell upon the corner of the courtyard, where firewood and coal were stacked nearly as high as the wall, she couldn’t help but think what genuinely good people her daughter’s in-laws were.

She was truly happy for her daughter.
