Chapter 400: The Temperature Dropped

Doctor Xie finished her preliminary examination just as Fu Mingxue finished explaining.

"Their temperatures are quite high—thirty-nine degrees. Next time, if they have a fever this high from the start, you need to bring them to the hospital sooner. I’ll prescribe some medication and give them an injection in a moment. They’ll need to stay overnight for observation. If their fevers don’t return, they can go home tomorrow morning. If they do, we’ll have to run some other tests."

With that, Doctor Xie wrote out a prescription.

Then, she handed it to Fu Mingxue and told her to go pay.

Fu Mingxue took the slip and immediately went out.

When she returned from paying the bill, she spoke to Director Xie, who hadn’t left yet. "Director Xie, the children have to stay in the hospital tonight, so you should head home. We’ve really troubled you this evening."

Director Xie immediately replied, "Don’t mention it. It was the least I could do. By the way, the children are going to be okay, right?"

"It depends on how their fevers are tonight. If they don’t come back, they can go home tomorrow morning. If they do, they’ll need more tests. But that Doctor Xie is very good."

Director Xie also knew that Doctor Xie was very good.

He felt rather fortunate that they happened to catch her tonight.

"Well, it looks like you’ll have a long night ahead of you. By the way, does Mrs. Fu want to head back with me?"

"My mom probably won’t want to leave. It’s better to just let her stay here at the hospital."

Fu Mingxue figured that ’even if I made Mom go home, she probably wouldn’t be able to sleep anyway.’

’It’s better to just let her stay at the hospital.’

Director Xie agreed.

Qin Wenhao’s mother-in-law was extremely devoted to the children. With them being sick, there was no way she would go home.

"Okay, I’ll get going then."

After watching him leave, Fu Mingxue went back into the emergency room.

By this time, Doctor Xie had already instructed a nurse to give both children their injections.

"Their temperatures should go down in about half an hour. If they don’t, come find me in my office."

Fu Mingxue nodded immediately. "Okay, Doctor Xie."

Once they had left, Fu Mingxue sat down beside one of the hospital beds.

"Mom, why don’t you go lie down on one of the benches outside for a bit? I’ll watch the kids."

Mrs. Fu refused. "You’ve had a long day. You should get some sleep. I’ll watch the children."

"I’m not tired. We’ll see later."

Half an hour went by quickly.

Fu Mingxue reached out to feel one of the children’s foreheads, and her eyes immediately lit up with pleasant surprise.

"The fever’s gone down."

Mrs. Fu was overjoyed to hear this.

"Thank goodness it’s gone down."

Still, she wasn’t completely reassured. "I’ll go get a nurse to take their temperatures again."

Fu Mingxue agreed that a thermometer would be more accurate.

"Okay."

Mrs. Fu went out and quickly returned with a nurse.

The nurse took both children’s temperatures. "Their temperatures are down, but they’re still a bit warm. They’re at thirty-seven degrees now."

Fu Mingxue breathed a sigh of relief.

’Now we just have to make sure their fevers don’t come back tonight.’

"Excuse me, Nurse. Are there any hospital rooms available?"

The nurse replied immediately, "Yes. Are you sure you want one?"

The beds in the emergency room were, of course, cheaper than getting a hospital room.

"Yes, I’m sure. If you have a private room, we’ll take a private room."

"Of course. Please wait a moment while I go speak with the doctor."

The nurse went out.

She returned a few minutes later.

"There’s a room available. I’ve already set it up for you in 203. It’s a semi-private room. Please follow me."

She got another nurse who was on duty, and together they pushed the two children’s beds to the new room.

Fu Mingxue went to pay the fees first.
