"Okay, come with me."

Director Xie took Fu Mingxue to the dean’s office.

"Dean Zhang, I need to borrow your phone for a call."

"Go ahead!"

Dean Zhang immediately unlocked it.

Fu Mingxue dialed the Qin family’s number.

Sure enough, someone on the other end picked up quickly.

"This is the Qin residence. Who’s speaking?"

Fu Mingxue recognized her mother-in-law’s voice.

She immediately said, "Mom, it’s me, Mingxue."

"Mingxue, how is Wenhao?" Mrs. Qin gripped the receiver tightly.

The veins on the back of her hand bulged.

She was so terrified of hearing bad news.

This night, for her—no, tonight was a sleepless night for everyone in the Qin family.

Even the old folks hadn’t slept.

And when Qin Wenshu went to book train tickets, the earliest train was at 6:30 tomorrow morning.

Mrs. Qin had no choice but to wait until tomorrow to leave.

When the other branches of the Qin family heard that Qin Wenhao was in trouble, they all came over tonight.

They stayed to comfort her for a long time before going back to their own homes.

But she didn’t want to go upstairs at all, so she just sat right there by the telephone.

Good news or bad—she believed a call would definitely come.

And sure enough, here it was.

Fu Mingxue spoke quickly, "Mom, don’t worry. Qin Wenhao’s surgery was a great success. He’s out of danger now."

"Really?" Mrs. Qin nearly jumped to her feet. "Mingxue, you’re not lying to me, are you?"

"Mom, of course it’s true. How could I lie to you about something like this? The surgery was truly a success—Wenhao’s heart is positioned a little off-center, so the bullet didn’t hit a vital spot. They just had to remove it, and the hospital brought in a top specialist to do the procedure. He should wake up tomorrow morning."

Her daughter-in-law’s words made Mrs. Qin weep with relief.

"That’s wonderful! It’s so wonderful that he’s okay!"

’Thank heavens.’

"Mom, you can go to sleep now without worrying. I’m hanging up."

"—Alright, you get some rest too. You’ve been through a lot. I’ll come over tomorrow."

Fu Mingxue wanted to tell her not to come.

But then she thought, ’How could a mother not come to see her son after hearing he’d been injured?’

"Okay, then. Mom, please be safe on your way." With that, she hung up the phone.

Director Xie immediately told her to head back.

Back at the Qin residence, Mrs. Qin was overjoyed.

Mr. Qin had just gone upstairs, but he came back down when he heard the commotion.

"Honey, our boy Wenhao is okay! His surgery was a success. Mingxue just called."

Hearing this, Mr. Qin’s face also lit up with joy. "That’s wonderful news. A call at this hour had to mean the surgery was a success. Mingxue must have been worried about us, that’s why she called. That girl is so thoughtful."

Mrs. Qin nodded as well. "Yes, Mingxue is truly wonderful. Our Wenhao is so lucky to have married her."

"Now that he’s fine, you can go up and rest, right? By the way, about tomorrow—"

"I still have to go see him tomorrow. Mingxue has to work and she’s busy. Her mother is watching the two kids, and she only has two hands. How can she possibly manage everything? How can I, his own mother, not go?"

Mr. Qin nodded. "Alright. You should hurry up and get some sleep. I’ll go tell the old folks. They’re still awake too."

He turned and went upstairs—

Fu Mingxue was brought home. As she stepped through the door, a light turned on.

A moment later, Mrs. Fu emerged with a coat draped over her shoulders. "How’s my son-in-law?"

"Mom, he’s fine. The surgery was a success."

As soon as Fu Mingxue said this, Mrs. Fu clasped her hands together. "Thank the heavens."

She had been worried all night long.

She hadn’t dared to close her eyes for a second.
