Mrs. Fu had wanted to ask more about her son-in-law.

But when she saw how exhausted her daughter looked, and then glanced at the time, she held her tongue.

"Mingxue, it’s late. You should go get some rest. We can talk about everything else in the morning."

Fu Mingxue was exhausted, too.

Her nerves had been stretched taut all night. Once she finally relaxed, the exhaustion felt overwhelming.

"Okay, I’m going to get some rest then. Mom, you should go to bed too. Don’t stay up. Qin Wenhao is really okay now."

"Alright." Mrs. Fu could tell from her daughter’s expression that her son-in-law’s situation probably wasn’t too serious.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t be acting this way.

After her mom went into her room, Fu Mingxue went to take a shower.

Then she lay down in bed. She thought she’d fall asleep immediately, being so tired.

But for some reason, her mind drifted to that Doctor Xie.

’So it’s true, there are geniuses among geniuses.’

’It’s just a shame this prodigy died so young. Thirty-eight... that’s the prime of a man’s life. How could he have died?’

She sighed. There was truly nothing she could do about it.

After all, it was something that would happen ten years from now.

Besides, she didn’t even know exactly how Doctor Xie had died.

Back then, her own life had been a complete mess; she hadn’t been in any state to read the news that carefully.

Sleepiness finally began to creep up on her.

Before she knew it, she had drifted off.

Her dreams were filled with nothing but chaotic nightmares.

When she startled awake and opened her eyes, she found the sky outside was already bright.

She raised her arm to check her watch. It was already 6:30.

But the sleep hadn’t relieved her exhaustion. If anything, the nightmares had left her feeling even more worn out.

She lay there for a moment before getting up to get dressed.

When she came out, Mrs. Fu was already doing the laundry.

The two children were eating by themselves in their high chairs, placed right next to Mrs. Fu.

She was watching the children while scrubbing the clothes.

"You’re awake."

Mrs. Fu flicked the water droplets from her hands. "Hurry and eat breakfast. I’ll go with you to the hospital in a bit to check on him."

If she didn’t see him with her own eyes, her heart wouldn’t be at ease.

"Ah? But what about the two kids?" Fu Mingxue tried to persuade her mother not to go to the hospital.

Mrs. Fu quickly replied, "I already spoke with Sister Wang next door. She’s going to help watch the kids for the morning. I’m going to the hospital."

"Oh, right, I also made some chicken soup. We can bring some over later—"

The moment she heard this, Fu Mingxue immediately protested, "Mom, he just woke up from surgery! He can’t eat yet. He can’t have any chicken soup. Don’t bring it."

Mrs. Fu slapped her own forehead.

"Look at me, getting old and muddle-headed. I can’t believe I forgot about that."

"Since your husband can’t drink it yet, you should have it!"

"Okay." ’I guess I’m the lucky one,’ Fu Mingxue thought. "You should have some, too. You’re running around taking care of everything for our family; your health is important, too."

"Alright."

Fu Mingxue went to wash up first.

Then she went to eat breakfast.

Hao Rong was just coming out of his apartment, about to leave, when he saw his mother pressed against the wall. The sight made his face darken.

He immediately strode over and pulled her away.

"Who the hell is grabbing me—" Mrs. Hao’s anger vanished the moment she saw her son’s dark, grim face.

She said sheepishly, "Son, you’re leaving now, are you?"

"Mom, what are you doing?" Hao Rong asked, keeping his voice down.

He was too embarrassed for the neighbors to hear that his mother was eavesdropping on them.

"I... I—" Mrs. Hao’s eyes darted around. "I was just concerned about Qin Tuan next door. I was wondering if he’d been saved or not."
