Just then, Dean Zhang came out.

He wore a relieved smile.

"Congratulations, the surgery was a complete success. The patient’s heart is positioned slightly off-center, so it wasn’t struck."

Upon hearing his words, the anxiety that had kept Fu Mingxue on edge for eight hours finally subsided.

’Thank goodness—I just knew he would be alright.’

’And I have Qin Wenhao himself to thank, too. His heart really knew what it was doing, growing off to the side like that.’

Her gaze fell upon Qin Wenhao’s colorless face. ’It’s all right,’ she thought. ’He’s alive.’

At that moment, the young Doctor Xie walked out.

She said:

"Now he just needs to rest well. The bullet has been removed, and he should recover without any major problems. He’s still unconscious because of the anesthesia. He’ll likely wake up around six tomorrow morning. A family member will need to come with me in a little while; I have some instructions for you."

Fu Mingxue immediately responded, "Okay."

Doctor Xie glanced at her. "Let’s get him to his room first."

The nurses immediately pushed the hospital bed toward the ICU.

He still needed to be kept under observation.

Fu Mingxue, Director Xie, and the others were stopped at the entrance.

But knowing the surgery had been a success, they were all greatly relieved.

’Besides, hadn’t Doctor Xie said it was just a matter of removing a bullet? That it wasn’t that serious?’

After they had waited outside for nearly half an hour, Doctor Xie finally came out.

She looked toward Fu Mingxue. "The family member. Come with me to the office."

"Okay." Fu Mingxue immediately followed.

Director Xie was also worried, and he wanted to listen in, so he followed as well.

Once they were in the doctor’s office, Doctor Xie went over the necessary precautions with Fu Mingxue.

Fu Mingxue committed each one to memory.

However, Doctor Xie’s final point of emphasis made her blush, her expression stiffening.

"No sexual activity for at least a month."

’...? Who would do *that* while they’re injured?’

’...?’

’Maybe I shouldn’t have tagged along.’

’I mean, I never expected the doctor to be so... open about this sort of thing.’

’And she didn’t even give me a chance to step out.’

’This is just excruciatingly awkward.’

’Tsk. Just what you’d expect from someone who studied abroad—they just think differently.’

"Okay." Fu Mingxue nodded as if nothing had happened. "Doctor Xie, thank you so much for today!"

This Doctor Xie had a very cold demeanor. She spoke in a clipped, wooden tone:

"It’s a doctor’s duty. There’s nothing else for now, so you can go. And only one of you needs to stay; the rest can go home. There’s no need for everyone to keep vigil."

Fu Mingxue nodded, "Okay, we understand. Thank you! We’ll be leaving then."

With that, she walked out.

Director Xie also gave a slight nod to Doctor Xie, then followed Fu Mingxue out.

"Ms. Fu, it’s almost dawn, and you have work. Why don’t I have someone take you home to rest? I can stay and watch over things here."

Fu Mingxue immediately said, "That could work. I’ll head back for a little while. My mom must be worried sick. I’ll go let her know what happened, and I can pack a few things to bring back. I’ll return before six."

’My mom is definitely still awake.’

’If I go back and tell her now, at least she won’t have to worry anymore.’

Director Xie advised her, "You don’t need to rush back."

But Fu Mingxue was determined to be back before six.

So, she didn’t argue with him about it.

In any case, she would just come back when she was ready.

"Oh, by the way, Director Xie, could I use the hospital phone? My parents-in-law are surely waiting for news as well. I want to call them so they don’t have to worry."
