Qin Family Mansion

Lan Qingman was the one who answered the phone when it rang.

"Hello, who is this? You’re asking who I am? I’m Lan Qingman—"

Just then, Mrs. Qin walked over and took the receiver from her hand.

Lan Qingman was annoyed, but one look at her mother-in-law’s face made her swallow her words.

However, she didn’t leave.

She was determined to hear who was calling and what it was about.

Mrs. Qin ignored her and asked gently, "Hello, may I ask who you’re looking for?"

Once the caller realized they were speaking to Qin Wenhao’s mother, they told her the news directly.

Mrs. Qin nearly dropped the receiver.

"—What? Wenhao was injured? How bad is it? Is it serious?"

"They’re fighting to save him at the hospital?"

Mrs. Qin swayed on her feet.

Meanwhile, Lan Qingman, who was eavesdropping nearby, was utterly shocked by what she heard.

Her brother-in-law, Qin Wenhao, was severely injured.

’Oh god, is Qin Wenhao going to die?’

A strange glint appeared in her eyes.

Her heart began to race.

Her eyes darted. Seeing her mother-in-law about to faint, she quickly reached out to steady her.

"Mom, you have to hang in there—"

’It’d be best if you just died now,’ she thought.

’If she died now, wouldn’t the entire Qin family fortune belong to her son?’

’The very thought was thrilling.’

’But I can’t let it show right now.’

The others at the dining table had heard the commotion.

Startled, they all came over.

Mr. Qin took the receiver from Mrs. Qin, spoke briefly to the person on the other end, and then hung up.

"How is he? Is Wenhao badly hurt?" Old Mrs. Qin asked quickly.

Her wrinkled face was full of worry.

Seeing his parents’ worry, Mr. Qin feared the shock would be too much for them.

He was just about to say it was only a minor injury when...

Lan Qingman beat him to it. "Grandma, the person on the phone said Wenhao is in critical condition and they’re fighting for his life in the ER—"

Old Mrs. Qin almost fainted.

Fortunately, Qin Wenze, who was standing nearby, managed to support her.

"Grandma, don’t worry—Wenhao will definitely be fine."

As he spoke, he shot a furious glare at Lan Qingman. ’Is she brainless or what?’

’Doesn’t she know the two elders are too old for this kind of shock?’

Being glared at by her own husband, Lan Qingman felt indignant. "What are you glaring at me for? I’m not the one who made it up! That’s what the person on the phone said—that Wenhao is in critical condition and they’re trying to save him—"

Qin Wenze was furious. "Shut up!"

Lan Qingman knew when to back down, so she snapped her mouth shut.

’Anyway, I’ve said what needed to be said,’ she thought. ’It’s just a shame—why didn’t one of the old folks faint?’

’Heh. Clearly, they don’t love their grandson all that much.’

Mr. and Mrs. Qin had no time to deal with her.

They were too busy comforting the elderly couple. "He is injured, but it shouldn’t be serious. We asked. His life isn’t in danger."

"Dad, Mom, didn’t they say they were trying to save him? How could his life not be in danger? I think we need to hurry over there. If we’re too late—"

Before she could finish her sentence, Mrs. Qin slapped her across the face.

The SLAP was exceptionally loud.

Everyone in the Qin family was stunned by Mrs. Qin’s action.

After all, no one had ever seen her strike another person in the Qin family before.

The same thought flashed through the minds of every Qin family member: ’She must have been pushed to her absolute limit.’

A mother-in-law striking her daughter-in-law was, after all, unheard of in the Qin family.

Lan Qingman’s expression was one of utter disbelief.

She cupped her stinging cheek, completely stunned. ’Did... did she just hit me?’

But before she could fly into a rage...

Mrs. Qin’s furious question thundered through the room. "Are you just hoping my son will die?"
