Chapter 1209: Can’t turn back
Chapter 1209: Can’t turn back
Michael turned to Zion, now awkwardly shutting off his eyes and trying to force himself to go back into his normal form. He couldn’t. The young Dragonborn could only groan and complain, but his body neither turned normal nor shrunk in size.
"No, no, no, no. Don’t tell me... I’m going to be stuck as a Dragon?! NO!!!"
Zion’s voice echoed throughout the entire Nation of Reborn, making the grounds shake and the hearts of all Maugnetics in the area seize.
Michael’s eyes widened. Ancient Roar!
It looked like Zion didn’t even know that he did anything. But Michael was sure. That was the Ancient Roar! The very same voice that caused people to lose their control over their own Aubility Powers! And now, it seemed that Zion could wield that same oppressive voice as well.
"How am I going to play baseball now?!"
Michael didn’t know what to feel. On the one hand, it was good that they had another person in their midst who could use the Ancient Roar. On the other hand, it was now in the hands of a literal kid.
There was a very real worry that Zion would use his Ancient Roar just because he wanted to stay up late and forgo his curfew.
WAIT!
Michael felt the hairs stand up on end as he realized something. Once again, he looked at the Dragon’s entire body, which stood as tall as a two-story building and as wide as an 18-wheeler truck.
He focused on Zion’s heart.
Now, Zion hadn’t gone far with his cultivation as a Maugnetic. He was barely even qualified to be called that. But he did have a GodForge piece in his heart. It’s what prompted Michael to start training them as a Maugnetic in the first place.
But when he looked at the Dragon’s heart in front of him, he saw not a single sign of that metallic, liquid metal inside.
There was nothing. Not even a sliver of it was left.
He searched again, thinking that the GodForge piece had just been displaced because of the sudden evolution. But even as he scanned the dragon’s entire body, he found nothing. Absolutely nothing.
He’s no longer a Maugnetic? Michael realized.
The missing GodForge piece wasn’t a concern of his. The loss was basically less than a kilogram. It was inconsequential.
But what did interest him was the fact that he could still feel Aubility Power emanating out of the dragon despite the lack of the very thing that was supposed to give him that power!
Zion was now emanating Aubility Power. It was subtle. Barely even noticeable. Very thin. But it was there. Coating his scales and every part of his body as if it was a second armor.
But now that he didn’t have a GodForge piece, he shouldn’t have any kind of power at all!
Instead, his Aubility Power grew even more than before! He was sure that he hadn’t fed the young Dragonborn any GodForge pieces before this.
How is this...
It was then that he suddenly realized something. It had been staring at him in the face this entire time.
Dragon... Draconian...
Zion had turned into a Draconian. At least, something like them.
Draconians were Beastfolk. And Beastfolk were different from humans in one distinct aspect: where they draw their power from.
Humans needed GodForge pieces. Beastfolks didn’t. Their hearts were already filled with Aubility Power from their very births! And if they want to get stronger, they can simply just stimulate their hearts to grow.
Him, and the Dragonborns before, needed GodForge pieces to grow their Maugnetic power.
But now, it seemed that Zion evolved beyond that. He now didn’t need GodForge pieces to get stronger.
A Dragonborn evolves into a Draconian?
Just from the namesake itself, he should have expected this. But he couldn’t help but feel as if he was missing something crucial.
As far as he knew, Draconians were naturally born Dragons. They were born like humans, from a womb, and through their maturity, they grow their scales around their body until they could finally transform into a Dragon.
Yet with Zion, he turned into a Dragon first. And judging from his frustrated face, he seemed to have more trouble turning back into his normal form rather than maintaining this Dragon form.
It was as if this was his natural state. Not the other way around.
Michael found this very interesting.
He couldn’t wait to see if the other three Dragonborns would also become like Zion.
And with more examples, he could eventually learn more about them and finish his conclusion.
As it stood, there were way too many unknown variables to conclude that Zion was now a Draconian. Perhaps he was, or perhaps he just looked like them.
I guess I should ask a Draconian himself.
Michael turned to one of the Rebornian attendants waiting for him. "Can you fetch Infernus—"
But just as he was about to make that command, the attendant got ahead of him and spoke first.
"Lord Michael, I have something to report."
...
...
...
Michael returned to the Rebornian headquarters. He stood in the middle of their large table, now looking empty, as Castelle and the Dragonborns were away.
He looked towards his two Orc Chieftains: Narito and Sasuki.
"BU TO TO!"
"RAH TA TA!"
They saluted. They’d grown stronger since last time he saw them. They were probably the strongest Rebornians now aside from the Dragonborns and Fudge.
"You said you found something?"
The Orcanine Chieftain nodded. "Yes, please look at this, boss."
Narito showed him a picture. It was a sprawling landscape of New Sparta and the large chasm that separated it from the rest of the continent.
There was a large red circle near the bottom of the chasm’s cliffwalls.
"You’re saying that there are demi-humans who live there?"
They’d reported this to him earlier. But he just couldn’t believe it.
The chasm had somehow unearthed a hidden civilization under the crust of the world. And this civilization was filled with demi-humans. Mankeys. Satyrs. Komodos.
