Chapter 726: Understanding
Chapter 726: Understanding
“I have one simple rule….. Your body can leave, but your soul must stay behind.” Devan’s eyes stared deep into Min’er’s soul seeing everything she had seen and done in her life.
But even still, he shook his head and let out a sigh. “To gain revenge, you act like the one you wish to gain revenge on. Is this how you should do things? Such things should never be done in such away. To gain revenge, grow stronger yourself and barge in on those who caused you pain and anguish without ever harming someone else, or you, yourself, are no better than the evil you wish to rid the world of.”
Min’er also knew this. She did not wish to resort to this, but she had no other way, those she wished to destroy were just too powerful. She had no way of wiping them out. She needed a power just as strong to help her bring her dream of getting revenge on those who stole everything from her.
As if knowing what Min’er was thinking, Devan spoke once more. “You can only do what you can with the power you have. From my mother’s memories, you are all able to live for thousands of years. You are able to grow in strength with effort and time. You just needed to bide your time and use your resources to grow your own faction like you had been, but you were too rushed. You were too impatient and wanted revenge as quickly as possible. But now you failed. You failed because you were not patient. Do not blame this on my mother nor on me. You can only blame yourself for your actions.
“But…. While I will take your soul and use it to nourish my mother’s cultivation, I sympathize with you….. No one should need to deal with the loss of one’s family and loved ones..” Kana’s eyes lowered, and an air of sadness began to fill the air. Lee’s smiling face appeared in his mind reminding him of the girl he once spent so much time with. He sighed before looking at Min’er once more. “I will make it, so your revenge is carried out.”
Min’er’s eyes seemed to relax. She knew she was going to die, but there was nothing she could do about it. In fact, she knew she deserved to die for all her actions. She never planned to live very long after getting her revenge. She just wished to hold out as long as possible until she could finally see things through. But for some reason, Devan’s word’s made here feel a sense of peace.
Devan saw how Min’er seemed to understand what was going to happen and nodded, knowing the girl was willing to repent. “Do you have anything you wish to say before I proceed?”
Min’er felt her ability to talk come back to her and only uttered two words: “Thank you….”
Seconds later, her soul was ripped from her body, and her body turned into nothingness. Her soul did not scream out in pain as it was compressed into a golden ball of spiritual qi. For this, Devan was truly impressed because the pain was not something anyone could handle. After he sealed the spiritual qi within Kana’s dantian, he decided to make good on his promise. He floated to the window and opened it before masking Kana’s presence and disappearing into the night.
In a courtyard where the inner sect disciples lived, Wen Zan sat in a soft chair, tapping the table to his side in aggravation. “How long Is MIin’er planning to make me wait!?”
“For all eternity….” A ghostly voice came out of the darkness of the room. The candle that was flickering about on the table suddenly went out.
Wen Zan immediately jumped up from his seat and looked around the room. “Who? Who’s there!?”
“Who I am is none of your concern. You just need to know that you will need to do a task.” The ghostly voice reverberated throughout the room, causing the hair on Wen Zan’s neck to stand on end.
“Come out! Do you know who I am!? I am Wen Zan of the Wen clan!” Wen Zan was doing his best to push down his fear, but no matter how much he searched, he could not find out where the voice was coming from.
The ghostly voice did not ignore Wen Zan’s question as it answered: “Then try dying once….”
When Wen Zan heard those words, all he saw was two pitch black eyes staring right at him before everything went dark.
The next day early in the morning, Kana was back sitting on her bed as she was before. Her eyes showing a hint of sadness. “It seems my time is up…. I do not know when I will ever get to show myself again, but for now….”
Devan raised Kana’s hand and cupped her cheek. A warm smile spread on Kana’s lips as she leaned against her hand. “While I am jealous of my sisters, I hope one day we will eventually meet….”
As his words fell from Kana’s lips, Kana’s eyes closed… And the strange air about Kana disappeared. But shortly after, Kana’s lips parted once more. “Devan…. My son….”
It was not known if Kana spoke these words subconsciously because as her eyes opened, a slight haze could be seen within them before clearing. “Hmmm? Tears?”
Kana touched her face to feel the dampness. She did not know why but she felt very sad as if she had lost something that was very important to her. She sat there on her bed, not really understanding why she felt this way. But she could tell that it was definitely something that she did not wish to forget.
She sat there for quite a while trying to figure it out but soon grew aggravated because no matter how much she thought about it, nothing was coming to mind. “Ahh enough! I need to get back to cultiva…. What!? Why is my cultivation so high!?”
