Rebirth: Saving the Lovely Girl from the Start
Chapter 584 The ’Healer’s’ Identity (Part 2)
Lin Ruoxi was willing to spend money on Xue Rui, but she knew that many university students only had a few hundred yuan for living expenses. For them, it would be an unnecessary expenditure...
Xue Rui thought for a moment. This was an opportunity to increase the campus app’s user retention. Many universities cut the power at night, which was also a peak time for student activities. However, data plans back then were ridiculously expensive—five yuan for thirty megabytes.
"Xixi, what if we made a dedicated power bank, just for powering the network switch and router? Do we have the materials at the factory to do it?" Xue Rui asked.
Lin Ruoxi’s eyes lit up. Xue Rui’s method seemed to be the cheapest and safest option.
"Rui, you’re so smart! We could even make a DC boost cable to power it with a USB..." Lin Ruoxi looked at Xue Rui, her eyes crinkling with a smile. He had said exactly what she’d just thought of.
"It was nothing," Xue Rui said with a wave of his hand. He hadn’t really understood the last part of what Lin Ruoxi said, but seeing the adoration in the girl’s eyes, ’I have to pretend I did!’
The classmate standing by was completely lost. He watched Xue Rui nod along, seemingly in complete agreement with Lin Ruoxi’s ideas, and couldn’t help but sigh at the gap between them.
There was a reason Xue Rui had managed to win over Lin Ruoxi. The classmate couldn’t even keep up with a single sentence of their conversation...
As they reached the door to his dorm, Xue Rui heard a chaotic racket from inside. The piercing scrape of chair legs on the floor sent shivers down his spine.
Xue Rui had Lin Ruoxi wait to the side with him for a moment. Only when he saw a neatly dressed Zhao Chaojie take a bag of trash out to the hall did he signal for her to go in.
"Are you guys cleaning?" Lin Ruoxi asked, confused. It was as if Xue Rui had planned this with his roommates in advance...
"Yep, I clean every day," Zhao Chaojie said, nodding.
Suppressing a laugh, Xue Rui said, "Xixi, you’re more effective than the faculty supervisors."
Occasionally, the dorm supervisor would bring faculty heads around for cleanliness inspections. In his past life, his roommates would just lock the door and refuse to open it. No entry, no photos. No photos, no loss of face for their student counselor...
Xue Rui walked into the dorm. Looking at the clean and tidy floor and the neatly arranged toiletries, he couldn’t help but exclaim, "Is this still my dorm? I don’t even recognize the place."
"Ahem, Old Xue, you’re always here. Our dorm is normally like this, right?" Zhao Chaojie shot Xue Rui a meaningful look.
Going against his conscience, Xue Rui said, "Right."
’As long as Lin Ruoxi visits every now and then,’ Xue Rui thought, ’all their bad habits will be cured...’
"Sister Xi, you came all this way just to bring us food. We’re so touched," Qian Huabiao said, rushing to take the takeout containers from Lin Ruoxi.
People always said that when one guy in a dorm started dating, the rest of the roommates had to pitch in to support him. But in their dorm, it was the complete opposite. Xue Rui’s girlfriend was sweet, beautiful, and generous—’She’s way more agreeable than the girls I’m juggling,’ Qian Huabiao thought.
His phone started buzzing with a series of DINGS. He couldn’t even get a moment’s peace to play a game. While eating, he had to soothe the feelings of his various girlfriends, laying the groundwork for the ranked match he was about to start.
At the same time, Xue Rui’s phone also went off. It was a voice message from Gu Muxue.
Gu Muxue’s sweet, pouting voice came from the phone: "Xiaorui, my roommates and I went out for hot pot. It was a belated celebration for my birthday. What did you and Ruoxi have?"
Lin Ruoxi took the phone from Xue Rui and replied in a soft voice, "Muxue, we had hot and sour noodles. Remember not to eat anything too spicy; you should stick to a light diet."
"Okay, I’ll do whatever you say. I’ll pick up some groceries on my way back tonight," Gu Muxue’s voice replied from the phone.
The roommates were completely bewildered by the exchange but didn’t dare ask any questions. Only Qian Huabiao nearly bit his tongue in shock.
"You..." Qian Huabiao started, but then trailed off. He was dying of curiosity.
’How does Xue Rui do it?’
"Me? I’m here to watch Xue Rui play his games," Lin Ruoxi said. She then found an empty chair, sat down at Xue Rui’s desk, and turned on his computer.
At her words, the other guys whipped their heads around in shock. Qian Huabiao still had a mouthful of greasy hot and sour noodles.
"Sister Xi, you’re not going to lay down the law?" Qian Huabiao asked curiously.
Back in those days, gaming wasn’t seen as a good habit. Both parents and girlfriends tended to hate it when guys played online games.
Lin Ruoxi looked puzzled. "Aren’t guys our age supposed to be playing games?"
"Mmm, you’ve got a point."
Qian Huabiao put the lid back on his takeout container. Listening to the incessant PINGS from his phone, his mood hit rock bottom.
’These noodles are too sour! I’ve lost my appetite!’
He furiously sent out a group message and then switched his phone to silent. "Hurry up and start a match. I’m going top."
"Whatever, I’m not playing support. The support always gets the blame for everything."
"You have the nerve to talk? Your Soraka flashed in... and healed a minion."
"That was lag..."
Listening to his roommates bicker, Xue Rui couldn’t help but recall a previous all-nighter where their five-man team hadn’t won a single game.
"Sister Xi, can you take over for me for a bit? I need to use the restroom," Cai Huazhou said, getting up from his seat.
Everyone thought this was a brilliant idea. Zhao Chaojie grinned and said, "Make sure you’re taking a dump, and don’t rush back."
"Yeah, yeah, I know," Cai Huazhou said impatiently.
Xue Rui smiled. ’This could be interesting,’ he thought. ’Let’s see what happens when a genius like her plays a competitive game. Will she show off her hidden talents?’
Lin Ruoxi was suddenly flustered. She had bought drinks and fruit, planning to feed Xue Rui snacks while he played. ’But now I have to play?’
