"Of course, President Wu! Thank you for your trust! I’ll be sure to give it a thorough read!"

After Wu Yun and his large group departed, the once-quiet hall immediately erupted with noise.

Kong Sheng watched Wu Yun’s departing figure. He had originally planned to ask about the chance to direct *The Immortal Ascension*. ’But after what that good-for-nothing son of mine pulled... there’s no point in asking now!’

Still, Kong Sheng wanted to assess the fallout, so he asked Wei Feng, "Old Wei! Help a brother out! Do you think your President Wu really meant it when he said he forgave us?"

Kong Sheng and Wei Feng were old friends, so he didn’t mince words. The others at the table leaned in, their expressions filled with curiosity.

Wei Feng smiled and said confidently, "Old Kong, relax! Fortunately, nothing serious happened. You downed several glasses and even beat your own son in public. That’s about as sincere as an apology gets!"

"Don’t worry about it! President Wu isn’t going to get a reputation for being petty and vindictive over something so minor."

Only then did Kong Sheng let out a huge sigh of relief.

Hou Hongliang asked quietly, "President Wei, is that beautiful woman from earlier also with President Wu...?"

Wei Feng chuckled. "I wouldn’t know. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen her."

Wei Feng then quickly changed the subject. "Come on, everyone! Let’s drink!"

Everyone else exchanged knowing glances.

...

In the car, Wu Yun turned around from the passenger seat. "So, what happened back there?"

Qi Fei’s expression was furious. "It was Kong Sheng’s son. He was drunk and tried to get Meng Meng’s contact information, claiming he’d admired her for ages!"

"Pah! More like he saw a pretty face and got horny!"

"Meng Meng turned him down, but the drunkard wouldn’t let it go. He kept insisting she have a drink with him and even started trying to grab her. That’s when everything else happened."

Wen Meng, who was used to being hit on, remained relatively calm. She smiled and said, "It’s fine now. Director Kong already apologized. Let’s just drop it. He was just a drunk, after all. No need to waste our energy on it."

Wu Yun nodded. "Alright. If you want to let it go, we’ll let it go."

Just then, Wei Wu spoke up from the driver’s seat. "Boss, I’m afraid that man was on some kind of illegal substance."

"Oh?" Wu Yun didn’t doubt Wei Wu’s assessment. "How could you tell?"

Qi Fei and Wen Meng stopped talking, leaning forward to hear what Wei Wu had to say.

"Boss, when we ran up, we saw him get slapped to the ground and then hit with a chair. I noticed the chair leg was bent from the impact, so it must have been a pretty hard hit."

"A normal person would have been in a lot of pain after a blow like that, maybe even been stunned for a while."

Wei Wu continued as he drove, "But that guy didn’t seem to feel any pain at all. That’s when I took a closer look at him. He was agitated and impervious to pain, which is a lot different from the confusion and slurred speech you see in a drunk."

"I saw it back in Ukraine. Some mercenaries would take contraband. When they fought, they felt no fear and no pain. Unless you killed them on the spot, they’d keep charging our position even with a broken leg."

Both Qi Fei and Wen Meng caught the implication in Wei Wu’s words. ’They never expected Wu Yun’s bodyguard to have actually seen combat. No wonder he seems so formidable!’

"Also, in the mercenary circles I’ve been around, contraband is extremely common. I’m pretty good at telling the difference between a drunk and someone who’s high."

"So, I’m sure if that kid took a drug test, he’d be positive."

Wu Yun turned to Wen Meng. "Well? You want to go after him?"

Wen Meng shook her head without a second thought. "Forget it. We already forgave him in public. Let’s not stir up more trouble. It might not be a huge deal, but if word got out, it could still affect your reputation."

"Alright! It’s your call," Wu Yun said with a shrug.

’In his past life, he had often seen people in the entertainment industry use drugs, giving excuses like "finding inspiration" or being "too lonely." Wu Yun had always thought those people were completely undeserving of their high positions.’

’He never expected to run into one at some random banquet.’

’But he’d never heard anything about Kong Sheng’s family in his past life. It seemed that either the issue was hushed up and never discovered, or Kong Xin quit later on. After all, judging by Kong Sheng’s temper, if he ever found out, he’d probably break Kong Xin’s legs.’

Back at Cofco Seaview No.1, Aunt Wang greeted Wu Yun and the women with her usual warmth, laying out slippers for them. "Mr. Wu, would you like a late-night snack?" she asked.

This time, Wu Yun didn’t refuse. "Aunt Wang, could you make me a bowl of noodles, please?" he said as he changed his shoes. "I was drinking all night and didn’t get a chance to eat."

"Do you two want any?" Wu Yun asked, turning to the women.

"No, thanks! We already ate. We have to watch our weight, otherwise a certain someone might start thinking we’re fat and not pretty anymore!" Qi Fei shot Wu Yun a look, as if to say, ’I see right through your little plot.’

Wu Yun shrugged. "Aunt Wang, make mine an extra large bowl, then!"

Aunt Wang beamed as she watched Wu Yun and Qi Fei’s playful banter. "Of course, Mr. Wu. You all go and relax!"

Sitting on the sofa, Wu Yun finally said to Qi Fei, "Feifei, remember how I said we’d take that trip to Dubai after you finished filming? I was thinking we should move it to your summer break instead."

Qi Fei looked shocked. "Have you been listening in on our conversations?!"

Wu Yun looked puzzled, so Qi Fei explained, "Meng Meng and I were just talking about this today! We decided we should all go to Dubai together for summer break! And now you bring it up!"

Wu Yun laughed. "It’s because I have something coming up. In a few days, the factory for the environmental tech company is having its final inspection. I have to be there, and I have a few things to discuss with them."

Qi Fei took Wu Yun’s arm. "Hey, business comes first. It’s not like I don’t get it."

Wu Yun draped an arm over each woman’s shoulder and grinned. "Don’t worry. When I make a promise, I keep it."

SMACK! Qi Fei slapped the back of his hand. "Where do you think your hands are going!"

Wu Yun chuckled. "Heh, just a habit!"

Wen Meng covered her mouth to stifle a laugh, then shot Wu Yun a sultry glance.

"Mr. Wu! Your noodles are ready!"

The sound of a bowl scraping against the tabletop was followed by Aunt Wang’s voice.

Wu Yun seized the opportunity to give each of their soft chests a quick squeeze. Before either woman could react, he shot up from the couch and dashed to the dining table.

"Hey! Xiaoyunzi, you are so dead!" Qi Fei slipped on her slippers and charged after Wu Yun.

The moment Qi Fei reached him, she sniffed with her delicate nose and sighed, "Wow, that smells amazing! Xiaoyunzi! Let me have a few bites first!"

...

「In the hotel room.」

Kong Sheng stared at Kong Xin, who was sprawled out on the bed, and felt a rage bubble up inside him.

He had always known his good-for-nothing son was a womanizer, but he never thought he’d be so brazen as to harass a woman in front of so many people—and that woman was very likely one of President Wu’s.

At that thought, Kong Sheng raised his hand to strike him again. But when he saw his son passed out on the bed, still wearing his shoes, he remembered that today was the first time he had ever beaten him like that. He sighed and lowered his arm.

Just then, something in the corner of his eye caught his attention. A small vial was peeking out of Kong Xin’s pocket. Suspicious, Kong Sheng walked over and pulled it out.

It was a thumb-sized, transparent vial, more than half-full of white powder. For the worldly and experienced Kong Sheng, one look was all it took. The color drained from his face instantly.

He no longer cared that Kong Xin was fast asleep. He brought his hand down hard across his son’s face.

"You degenerate son! Get the hell up!"

Kong Sheng stuffed the vial into his own pocket, grabbed Kong Xin by the collar with his left hand, and hauled him upright before slapping him again with his right.

Kong Xin’s eyes fluttered open groggily. Before he could even see who it was, he roared, "Who the fuck do you think you are, hitting me!"

The words had barely left his mouth when Kong Sheng’s hand came down again and again, striking Kong Xin’s face repeatedly.

Soon, Kong Xin’s face was visibly swelling.

However, the blows were also bringing Kong Xin to his senses. When he saw the murderous look on his father’s face, a cold dread shot through him.

"Dad...!"

SMACK!

"Where did you get this?! Get up! You’re coming with me to the hospital for a test!" Kong Sheng’s voice was filled with an uncontainable rage. "And if it’s what I think it is, don’t blame me for turning in my own son! I’ll drag you to the police station myself!"
