Chapter 1635: Why Bother Quarreling with an Outsider

  • Next Chapter

Alice Turner glanced at Autumn York, thinking to herself: How can my mother-in-law be this cute.

"Mom! I have absolutely nothing to do with that Aunt Wang, she’s just an outsider, why would I bother arguing so much with an outsider?" Since she was an outsider, of course it didn’t matter. Alice was not about to waste time and energy on someone who wasn’t family.

"Oh? So you mean people in the same family are supposed to nitpick everything?" Autumn looked at Alice like she was an idiot, and the two big words written on her face were: not happy!

"Mom! I didn’t mean to argue with you..."

Alice suddenly caught the hidden meaning in Autumn’s words, and an incredulous, delighted smile instantly spread across her face. "Mom! You finally admitted that I’m family with you. I’m so happy."

As soon as she finished, she excitedly threw her arms around her mother-in-law.

Autumn was completely baffled by Alice’s sudden move. Since when had she acknowledged this daughter-in-law? Was this girl...

Uh?!

That sentence she’d just said really was the kind that could easily cause misunderstandings. Once she realized what was going on, she pushed Alice off her. "Your Chinese must’ve been taught by the PE teacher. You can’t even understand one sentence. I’m seriously curious how you ever got into college?"

And she’d gotten into one of the top universities in the country. Autumn suspected it was fake.

"Mom! How did you know my Chinese was taught by the PE teacher?" Alice reached out and hooked her arm through Autumn’s again, ignoring Autumn’s eye-roll. She was still grinning from ear to ear. "In fifth grade, our Chinese teacher suddenly had a preterm birth, and all the other Chinese teachers already had full schedules, so the principal had no choice but to let the PE teacher teach us."

The way Autumn looked at Alice was more and more like she was looking at an idiot. Alice knew exactly why—because Autumn thought she was pulling her leg.

"Mom! Don’t look at me like I’m an idiot. Everything I said just now is true."

Alice froze for a second, then started trying to prove she wasn’t stupid. "In fifth grade it really was the PE teacher who taught us Chinese. Don’t underestimate him just because he was a PE teacher—his Chinese foundation was actually amazing. That year our Chinese exam scores ranked first in the whole school."

Alice talked and talked, but Autumn didn’t respond with a single word. She just glanced at Alice, and that look was still the look you’d give an idiot.

That really stung Alice—not because of the way Autumn looked at her, but because of Autumn’s attitude toward her, that refusal to believe her.

Right at that moment, the phone in her pocket suddenly rang. Her first reaction was that it had to be Thomas Fisher calling.

Alice took out her phone, and sure enough, it was Thomas calling her. She instinctively looked over at Autumn, and happened to meet Autumn’s gaze. She gave a silly little grin.

With that goofy smile, her mother-in-law honestly thought she was an idiot.

"Quit grinning like that and hurry up and answer the phone."

Seeing Alice grinning and not answering the phone for ages, Autumn really couldn’t hold back anymore and had to remind her.

"Oh."

Alice snapped back to herself, swiped her right index finger across the phone screen, and picked up.

"Mom and I will be back in a bit. You and Dad can just relax and keep drinking." She rushed to speak first, just to stop the person on the other end from saying something random.

"I’m at home waiting for you and Mom to come back."

Ever since Alice and Autumn had gone out, Thomas Fisher had been worrying nonstop. It wasn’t that he was afraid his mom would bully Alice; he was afraid his mom would say something harsh and hurt Alice’s feelings.
