Chapter 835: Markings on a Stone [Bonus]
Chapter 835: Markings on a Stone [Bonus]
[Peak of the Abandoned Mountain – Kent’s POV]
Kent walked back, sat down, and started to stare at the giant stone.
It had a brown color with a mixture of red and black.
The surface looked polished, like someone had meticulously spent a great deal of time polishing it. That part was strange, and it caught Kent’s attention.
He examined it using his divine senses, but regardless of what he thought, the outcome remained obvious before his eyes: the stone was just an ordinary stone that happened to have a rather classic color combination and a well-polished surface.
Then there were the markings.
Those, too, were but mere markings to Kent.
There were fourteen of them, and each had a different length, depth, and shape. None had anything in common for Kent to take as a point of reference.
In a way, they were mere markings made by a swordsman, no doubt.
Perhaps they were bored and chose to tap into their hidden art talent.
Safe to say they failed cruelly. There was no distinction in the markings at all.
However, Kent couldn’t help but wonder about something that immediately captured his attention, making him walk back, sit down, and start to analyze.
“Since a swordsman made the markings and it was the source of the sword energy I sensed, what does that mean?” Kent wondered.
“For me to sense the sword energy from down there was already enough to know it wasn’t ordinary. I may be regarded as a once-in-a-lifetime genius, but even I can’t leave a mark that will radiate sword energy all the way down there, not even a sword emperor can do that.
This means the markings were made by someone extraordinary.”
This conclusion only raised more questions for Kent.
“If this person was extraordinary, why leave markings in a stone and, most importantly, is there even anyone that impressive in this medium world?”
“That elder did say this mountain was abandoned 15 thousand years ago; that was ten thousand years after the Ancient Battle of Parting.
This also means even if these markings were left long before the Parting happened and the limit was placed on this world, nobody back then could have made these markings.”
Because of Kent’s deeper understanding of the sword, thanks to Jest, his incarnation, he knew what went into what he had just sensed.
Sword energy is a combination of sword intent and sword aura.
It is difficult to improve, especially from the profound stage upward, and for one to be able to leave such a mark, then it must certainly be someone who has already reached the Sword Immortal stage.
Anyone below that stage wouldn’t be able to even have a shot at leaving their sword energy behind for a year, let alone being sensed from several kilometers away.
“Makes me wonder whether this is something profound or I am just wasting my time, overthinking everything.”
Kent took a big sigh but continued to try to make sense of the markings.
After a while, the tower completed its analysis.
⟦I have analyzed every mark, and from what I gathered, these markings are more than 30 thousand years old. Also, they are not made from a sword, but from a sword aura.⟧
“Well, that took a turn quickly.” Kent’s interest was piqued, so he started to listen. And well, the tower can now speak, so he wasn’t reading.
Talk about growth and progression.
The tower has graduated and can now speak in a human tone.
⟦I couldn’t accurately estimate the grade of the sword aura, but from the other signs I have seen, it is no less than an Immortal grade.
But here is the strange part: the markings are not random. Inside each marking is a complex technique designed to enhance one’s sword energy (Aura/Intent).
Of course, I will need more time to gain a better understanding of the techniques, but from what I have gathered, this marking contains a technique to attain Perfect Sword Energy.⟧.
Kent furrowed his brow.
“When you say perfect, are we speaking of gaining perfect sword aura and intent in the sense that I will gain the recognition of the sword Dao?”
⟦Yes, master. I am not 100% sure, but from the little I could gather, the technique is aimed at attaining perfect sword aura and sword intent.⟧
Kent stood up, a smile playing on his face as he moved closer to the markings and started scrutinizing them, this time, with more attention to detail.
After a few minutes, he took a few steps back, and his smile turned into laughter.
“Finally, after hundreds of years of searching, who would have thought I would find it in a mere medium world such as this?”
Kent was darn happy.
This technique was one Jest had always had at the back of his mind and had looked for in many worlds before ascending to an immortal world.
Kent had yet to recall his life in the immortal world.
Still, he knew all about his life before ascending, and back then, aside from looking for many ways to grow in his sword path, he had also been looking for one of the fourteen techniques in cultivating perfect sword energy.
“With this, I will be taking a different step toward walking the perfect sword path also.” His heart was beating rather fast as he imagined where this was going.
“Perfect sword aura, intent, body, gaze. If I manage to perfect all this before reaching the peak of the sword path, will I then see the path beyond?”
Kent’s ambitions burned much brighter than he could handle at the moment. But he knew what this meant, and that alone was all he could aim for.
“Tower, analyse everything down to the last root and let me know all I need to know.”
⟦I will, master⟧
The tower used two good hours to analyze the 14 marks more closely before giving Kent the answer he had been waiting for.
⟦The secrets of this mark are hidden beyond my reach. The master would have to understand them himself⟧
“I expected that, but hearing it stung. In any case, just take the stone into the sword tower,” Kent said with a sigh.
⟦I can’t do that, master⟧
“Why?”
⟦Because the moment I take this stone, the whole mountain will come down. Additionally, I cannot take the entire mountain, as that would be too obvious.⟧
“Well, that is just too great. Then the only thing now is to study it using the time of this world.”
⟦That is indeed correct. The master must learn to cultivate on the outside too, since in the future, not everything can be used through the tower⟧
Kent just laughed, knowing what the tower said was indeed true. It cannot provide everything, and also can’t take everything inside.
At most, it can only copy some things if there is not enough time to study them. Even so, there is a case where it cannot copy. When that happens, he would have to stay on the outside and study it.
Today was one of those days. He must use the limited time he has at hand to gain a deeper understanding of what the markings conceal beneath.
“I’d better start early.” Thus, Kent sat down and began to comprehend the 14 markings.
