Elias’s POV

Leaving is the last thing I want to do. Leaving is the only smart thing for me to do. My home is under attack.

My body is still stained with Noah’s blood. I didn’t want to leave his side without knowing what’s wrong. FUCK. The life of a mafia heir is fucking unpredictable and I hate it.

I slam the car door shut with my phone pressed to my ear. Damien is on the other end. The motherfucker is laughing while I am struggling with my feelings.

"They are looking to die. They know they won’t succeed, yet they came in here" my older brother says with wild laughter, and I punch the headrest of the passenger seat.

"This. Isn’t. Time. To. FUCK AROUND" I roar and Damien doesn’t give me a response. Losing my temper is new. I never lose my temper.

"How the fuck was a group of low-life rebels able to bypass our security?" I bark into the phone.

"If you stop talking to me like that, I just might focus enough to pull an answer out of someone’s mouth" he snarls.

"How did they go through?" I ask in a calmer tone and the sound of continuous gunshots accompanied by the screams of men is the only feedback I get.

I should be worrying about Noah, not giving a fuck about men who think they can play god. If there is anyone to play god, it will be the Deus family and no one else, but the Deus family.

"Shit!" Damien swears in a less playful voice and I sit up slightly, baring my teeth at the tension.

"How is the situation looking?"

"Kai has been hurt. Those fuckers went straight for his wing of the mansion; they seem to have a clear map out of our home’s interior" Damien says and I take a breath to calm myself.

"DIE FUCKER!" Damien yells with sick pleasure as he shoots sporadically. I can hear multiple bodies dropping to the floor. I’m fucking pissed. "Oh shit...those were our own people. Oops" he says and my nostrils flare.

I will put a bullet through his leg when I get there.

"I’ve got to go, I’m clearing out the floor, I think Silas has better info on this shit than I do" my older brother says and I nod.

"I’m almost there. Keep as many rebels as you can alive" I order coldly and end the call.

Who are these rebels? Julian Fletcher? Governor Goldsmith’s retaliation? A suicidal person looking for an easy way to die?

I grab my own hair in frustration and look out the window. The city is growing darker. The city lights are on and most homes are quiet. The quicker I get this over with, the quicker I can return to my hospitalized mate.

"Drive faster" I spit out and the driver steps on the gas. My phone starts to ring and it’s Silas. He’s calling to give the heir an update.

"The men in the house are mindless puppets. They’re the same set of people who burned down the school. I assume they’re here to declare their existence, not pick a fight" the righthand man of my father goes straight to the point and I scowl.

"What did they leave behind to show their identity?"

"A signature that says Redemption" Silas says in his gruff voice and I rub at my temple. Redemption? What the fuck is that meant to mean? "Silas, how did they get past your security team?" I ask.

"That’s what I’d fucking kill to know. Aria has been harmed by them and they went to the basement" he says and I hear the loud movement on his end of the call.

"Aria is not easy to beat down" I state the obvious and I hear him kicking a door open.

"She says she was given something to drink" Silas says and I nod. Aria would never take something from someone she isn’t comfortable with.

"Inside job" I say.

"And he shot himself when I woke up, his body is here" Aria says in the background and I take a deep breath to keep myself calm. This is starting to fucking mess with my head. This was not the way my evening is meant to go.

I just told my mate that I loved him. I should be laying in bed with him. I should be fucking holding him.

I shut my eyes to refocus on the issues at hand.

"So this person gave you a spiked drink, allowed an invasion, and then shot himself?" I ask to make sure I’m hearing correctly and Aria responds directly into the phone.

"it’s not just any person, Elias. It was Ross, the third driver who works for us. He’s the one who assists me when I need to go out" she says and I open my eyes.

"Understood" I say and lean back in the seat. A mole has been living with us all along. No wonder they knew how to get to the school building. They’ve forgotten why the Gods are called ’the Gods’, haven’t they?

"He can’t be the only one. Whoever sent them won’t let his only way to attack us die easily. Gather every last worker in the mansion for questioning" I order and she responds with a groan before ending the call.

My eyes meet the driver’s in the rearview mirror and the man immediately looks away. Everyone is a suspect. As the car comes to a stop at my home, I get out first. I open the door of the driver’s seat, hold his nape, and tilt his head back.

"Are you a part of it?"

"I don’t know what you’re talking about sir" he says defensively and I pull the hair at the back of his head, forcing him to scream for mercy. And with his mouth open, I shove my gun down his throat, and shoot.

One less suspect.

I pull out the gun and leave his body in the running car.

When I get into the mansion I find dead bodies littering the hallway. There are guns by most of the dead men’s side. The air smells of pure adrenaline, gun powder, and fear.

Maybe I should be happy Noah wasn’t here when this happened.

"Tell me the truth" Damien’s voice roars from down the hall and I go after it.

"I don’t know! I don’t know!" his victim responds and I enter the large room we saved for parties. Our employees are all lined up and kneeling together. Men, women, alpha, omegas, and beta. I shove my hands in my pockets and survey the room.

Aria is next to Silas on a wooden chair. Her arm is bleeding and her face severely injured. Lucas is also next to her with his hand on her shoulder. There’s a murderous look on Kai’s face as he keeps a hand on his thigh to stop the bleeding of what seems to be a bullet wound. Damien looks livid as he beats up one of the workers with the butt of a rifle.

"What is the update?" I ask flatly and my older brother turns his attention to me.

His chest is rising and falling. His eyes are golden; he’s in his alpha state. Damien is not one to get angry easily. He’s one of the people who turns their rage into a sick game...and this...this side of him is lethal.

"Their goal was to free some of our prisoners" he says roughly.

"Winslow’s men?"

"Mixed. Most are with us. Elias, they took Zane" he says and I suddenly understand why he’s furious.

Fuck.
