Chapter 881: Chapter 1098: Revenge
While Gengar was bringing Maya out of the military base, Julian and Hubert were already waiting at the entrance. As the gate opened—
"Mom!"
Seeing his mother beside Gengar, Hubert cried out in excitement and immediately ran toward her.
Maya had been a little nervous while following Gengar out, but when she suddenly heard her son's voice and looked ahead, she saw Hubert running toward her.
Hubert threw his arms around his mother holding her tightly.
Maya gently patted Hubert's back and said softly, "It's alright. Mom's perfectly fine."
"Mom… my brother is dead… because of me—my brother died because of me…"
Hubert sobbed, a man in his thirties now crying his heart out like a little child.
"I… I only just found out I had a twin brother… but he died because of me…"
His own biological brother—someone he never even got to speak with, whose existence he only just learned about—had died because of the Birmanian government's schemes.
Maya knew nothing about this. She had never told Hubert he had a twin brother.
Now hearing Hubert's words made Maya's body tremble slightly.
How could this happen? Her other son was in a different country.
Grief welled up in Maya's heart, accompanied by countless questions.
"Mom, I'll explain later."
Hubert knew his mother's sorrow was no less than his own—perhaps even greater.
"He's this grown up, and still crying? How embarrassing," Celebi said disdainfully.
Jirachi explained, "He's crying because his brother died."
Celebi's expression grew even more dismissive: "So what if a brother dies? Even if I lost ten or a hundred brothers, I wouldn't cry."
"Jirachi, would you cry if your brother died?"
Celebi even turned to ask Jirachi.
Jirachi thought for a moment, then shook its head: "No."
Overhearing their conversation, Julian flicked them both on the forehead: "If you don't understand, then shut up."
'You two don't even have brothers, and you're talking about a hundred dying.'
'If I deleted your Pokémon Glory accounts right now, I bet you'd cry yourselves to death.'
"But... if Julian died, I would definitely cry."
Celebi rubbed its forehead where Julian had flicked it and said very seriously.
"Yeah. If Julian died, I'd cry even harder than Celebi," Jirachi added.
"Pfft, I'd definitely cry harder—I could cry for three days and three nights!"
"Hmph, I'd cry for seven days!"
"Ten days!"
"One whole month!"
The two little ones started arguing right in front of Julian.
Julian: 'Might as well mourn me to death already.'
He wasn't even dead yet and they were planning the funeral rites in front of him?
And when they said stuff like this, did they ever consider that the person they were talking about was still alive—and standing right in front of them?
"I'll burn ten beautiful women as an offering for Julian!"
"I'll burn luxury cars and mansions!"
"I'll burn you as an offering for Julian!"
Celebi dropped its bombshell and looked at Jirachi triumphantly.
Jirachi took several steps back, pointing a trembling finger at Celebi—that move was impossible to counter.
Julian grabbed Celebi by the neck and smacked its bottom with a loud smack.
Then he did the same to Jirachi as well.
With a stern face he looked at the two little ones. "With all this talk, it seems like if I don't die, I'd be letting down your devoted 'filial piety,' wouldn't I?"
The two covered their butts and looked at Julian aggrievedly.
The commotion Julian caused also snapped the grieving mother and son pair back to reality.
Only then did Maya notice that besides her and her son, there were other people present.
"You're Champion Walker?"
She had seen photos of him before—after all, he was incredibly famous. Birmania was also a neighbor of Drakoria, and the silver Metagross, along with Celebi and Jirakei, were unmistakable.
With these three Pokémon as his companions, it was hard not to recognize Julian.
"Yes. Mom, this is Champion Walker. He rescued you—and he saved my life too."
Hubert nodded, looking at Julian with gratitude.
Not only had Julian spared his life, but he had also rescued his mother. This debt was so great that Hubert felt he would have to work for Julian for the rest of his life to repay it.
"Hubert, from now on you must follow Champion Walker well."
Maya might be an ordinary civilian, but she wasn't foolish. A Champion from another country had come to rescue her—what could the reason be?
You could rule out the most unlikely possibility: that he had taken a liking to her, a middle-aged woman.
There was only one reason: Champion Walker valued her son's talent.
Maya was extremely proud of her son. He was naturally gifted and, at a young age, had become one of the leading figures in Birmania's spatial research field.
So when she said this to Hubert, her words were also meant for Julian to hear.
"Mom, I know."
Hubert nodded. Of course he would stick with Julian—if he didn't seize the chance to latch onto such a powerful figure, he'd have to be out of his mind.
"Champion Walker, shouldn't we leave quickly? The Birmanian government must know something's happened at the military base by now. Their people should be arriving soon," Hubert said.
Julian looked at him and said, "What's the rush? Things aren't over yet."
The Birmanian government had killed their scholar and stolen their research—Julian wasn't about to just have Gengar hypnotize the entire base and rescue Maya. That would be too simple.
"Gengar, Nightmare."
A cold gleam flashed in Julian's eyes. This was only the beginning.
"Ghehe~"
Gengar grinned. Its white body floated into the sky above the military base under the moonlight, and the power of Nightmare radiated from it.
All the sleeping Birmanian soldiers suddenly showed expressions of agony on their faces, their bodies twitching constantly.
Then, without warning, their hands shot up and gripped their own throats as they snarled viciously, "I'll strangle you—strangle you!"
Their grip tightened more and more until they strangled themselves to death.
There were nearly thirty thousand Birmanian soldiers in the entire base.
Gengar opened its mouth and inhaled—countless souls floated up from the base and were swallowed into its belly.
Having grasped part of the Death Essence, Gengar's utilization of souls had become several times more profound than before, and after becoming a Champion, its control over this aspect had become even more refined.
Burp~
After absorbing all the souls, Gengar let out a satisfied burp.
Human souls weren't as high-quality as Pokémon souls, and they contained many impurities. But this time, the sheer quantity made up for it, so the meal was quite satisfying.
"Meta~"
Metagross called out.
Around it now floated numerous Poké Balls.
These belonged to the Birmanian soldiers—all decent ones. Julian had no intention of killing them; he'd bring them back to the military, subtly strengthening the military's combat power.
Gulp!
Hubert swallowed hard. Tens of thousands of soldiers had died in the blink of an eye—yet Julian's expression hadn't even changed.
