“What?”

Shanren’s ears were filled with the rumbling of machines and couldn’t hear clearly at once, but the medical personnel he had called ran forward dutifully, only to be blocked by a comically shaped Gengar.

“Gneh! Gne-gah!”

Its voice was rather high-pitched, and the medical personnel obviously couldn’t understand what it was saying. They tried to push it aside with a smile, but the Audino nurse they brought along also joined in blocking the way.

“Ta, ta-buna~”

The Audino was a bit flustered.

On the other side.

Other workers who wanted to help were all swept away by a tail of Dragapult, falling to the ground with stars in their eyes.

“Hey! Whose Pokémon is that!?”

“What the heck is going on?”

“Waddles!”

It loudly stopped others who wanted to approach.

Shanren wasn’t stupid. Seeing the vigilant Dragapult, he also shouted loudly, “Everyone, don’t get close! Retreat backward!”

As he slowly backed away, he looked at Baimu in the distance, whose face was equally filled with confusion.

The next moment.

A strange laughter echoed.

“Hehe.”

“Hehehehehe.”

“Heehee hahahaha—”

The source of the laughter came from the “fainted” workers on the lift, who emitted a sharp laughter like nails on glass, piercing and eerie.

Everyone stared at this scene, shocked.

And then.

Those few workers slipped to the ground as if they had no bones, some prostrate and some lying on their backs.

But they all suddenly propped themselves up with their limbs, their faces full of malicious and cruel sinister light, charging at humans with an unsettling posture!

They ran and laughed, causing many to flee back in panic immediately.

However, before those workers could run far, an ethereal tail struck them onto the ground one by one. A rolling Raw Stone followed closely behind and spewed out a large amount of white mist from several holes, encompassing them.

Gengar flew over, sticking out its bright red tongue from its mouth, wickedly licking each of their faces.

“Yikes!”

“Ahh!”

The strange workers screamed constantly, but Corsola’s mist left them unable to move, forcing them to endure the attack.

Dragapult didn’t simply watch from the side either; a mass of gray mist emerged next to it, and when it extended its tail into it, the workers’ screams became more piercing.

“Waddles!”

“Gneh!”

Under Dragapult’s instructions, Gengar extended its claws into those workers’ brains, as everyone watched its actions in horror until a few ghostly violet flames flew out and scattered frenziedly.

Dragapult quickly hooked one with its tail, Gengar swiftly wrapped another with its tongue, and despite its small size, Corsola was the most formidable, using mist to trap two of them.

The remaining two seemed poised to escape the blockade of the three Ghost-type Pokémon, flying toward the nearest humans. Alas, everyone had already retreated far under Shanren’s command.

Ironically, it was Baimu who was initially the farthest away, but concerned for his Pokémon, he slightly moved closer.

As they prepared to make a desperate effort, intending to target him, an invisible golden light suddenly swept across, frightening them into turning toward the Underground City—

“Waddles!”

Dragapult’s silhouette abruptly blocked them, capturing each with a claw.

Then, amid Corsola’s extremely reluctant expression, it swallowed all six Ghost Fires entirely with its smoke-like tendrils into its body.

Dragapult secretly sighed in relief.

It looked toward its Trainer, waved its tail, and shouted, “Waddles!”

“Is it over?”

Baimu confirmed, saying to Shanren who had come to his side, “It seems that it’s indeed over.”

Shanren’s expression was extremely solemn: “Just now… what was that?”

“Not sure, I’ll ask Dragapult later.”

He shook his head, scanning the construction site where others were uncertain and fearful, evidently scared by the surreal horror movie-like scene.

At that moment, no one dared to approach.

Until Baimu and Shanren stepped forward without incident, the medical team ran up, followed by other workers.

The rescued workers were confirmed for physiological conditions by the medical team and sent away on stretchers. The remaining medical personnel indicated they were still alive but unconscious, requiring further examination for confirmation.

The workers who were earlier knocked down by the tail wanted to thank Dragapult, but as soon as they opened their mouths, they couldn’t find the guy.

Clearly, after the serious business was finished, Dragapult once again began to act up—

Selective social phobia.

Baimu was a bit worried about Corsola, but apart from its expression becoming more sullen, it didn’t seem uncomfortable.

Gengar was continuously praised as Pinocchio, and somehow a nose was fabricated on its face, extending outward long.

“So what exactly is the situation?”

Shanren looked at the lift with a face fluctuating between gloomy and bright.

He initially intended to excavate a path to the underground and then figure out how to hire a Spirit Medium, but now it seemed he had to recruit a Spirit Medium first.

Otherwise, how would the workers dare to start work! They’d be scared to death!

Baimu called Dragapult to the corner and inquired about the details through Porygon II. After a while, he found Shanren with a relaxed yet peculiar expression.

“Dragapult says this matter… strictly speaking, should be counted as a Pokémon haunting.”

“Pokémon? Are you sure?”

“Yes, it says it’s a Pokémon composed of countless evil souls that invade human bodies to commit evil deeds before being sealed away. When they encounter strong enemies, they group together into a whole, becoming malevolent entities. I think you know what I’m talking about.”

“Spiritomb!”

Shanren realized, “A legendary Pokémon formed by the aggregation of 108 evil souls, doing evil for being sealed by humans—But isn’t this a nebulous legend?”

Baimu replied helplessly, “Of course, legends can have both truth and falsehood, even within the content, that’s perfectly normal.”

He suddenly recalled how Ash Ketchum had been invaded by similar existences more than once; during the Advanced Generation, it was an evil king spirit known as Pokelantis.

That guy manipulated Ash Ketchum’s Pokémon to fight Shendai, ultimately being thrashed by Shendai.

During his journey, and similar to this time, it was a Spiritomb meant to be sent to the graveyard, as Ash was unfortunately invaded by a malicious spirit on the Ghost Train, nearly dismantling the entire Ghost Train.

Never expected Pyrite Town to have one too…

Unclear if it originates from the Spirit Realm or is native to Pyrite Town.

“Wait! Spiritomb consists of 108 souls! Dragapult only caught six, does that mean there are 102 more below?!”

Shanren lowered his voice, not daring to shout for fear of causing panic among the people around.

Baimu said, “I asked Dragapult, it said the other souls of Spiritomb probably don’t dare to come up, or rather, were awakened by the construction site’s noise and attacked the people who came in. These guys are cunning and evil.

“They know very well they can’t fight humans, generally won’t actively attack. Of course, this situation has to be guarded against; it’s best to quickly find a way to solve it.”

Shanren understood the underlying message, shaking his head, “No, you can’t go down. Right now, you’re the only one who can understand the situation below through Dragapult.”

“What are you thinking? I’m not planning to risk myself—Call for reinforcements!”

He took out his phone, which displayed a chat interface, and the other person’s avatar was a Dusknoir wearing a red flower.

Shanren saw the nickname at the top and exclaimed, “Furong!?”

“That’s right! I believe she should be the world’s most professional Spirit Medium… Well, maybe one of them. Anyway, I believe she can definitely solve this problem.”

Baimu smiled.

Shanren looked at him with a complex expression, suddenly punched him angrily, “Why didn’t you say you had these connections earlier! I was trying to figure out a way myself, asking countless people for Spirit Mediums!”

“Didn’t you let me handle everything?”

Baimu chuckled, glancing at the lift, “Anyway, she should be available tomorrow. I’ll let Hoopa pick her up; meanwhile, let’s seal this place first—I’ll borrow some Ghost-type Pokémon from N to watch over here.”

Shanren looked at the workers around with expressions tinged with fear and sighed, “That’s the only option for now.”
