Chapter 352: Spreading the Bait

Just as the door was about to close, Li Shuang’Er was suddenly overcome with regret. “Wait…” she began to say.

But before she could finish, Chen Qingdi resolutely slammed the door shut, and the electronic lock engaged automatically.

After he left the interrogation room, a few disciples from Medical God Island approached him.

“Master, we can use any means necessary to make Li Shuang’Er fall wholeheartedly for you.”

Chen Qingdi snapped angrily, “You bastards! That’s the girl I love most! How could we use such despicable tactics on her? Never mention this again!”

The room wasn’t soundproof. Li Shuang’Er heard every word perfectly, a disdainful smile touching the corners of her lips.

‘Trying to sweet-talk me through the wall? Do you take me for a fool?’

None of the disciples dared to say another word. Seeing Chen Qingdi give them a hand signal, they had no choice but to follow him out of the basement.

The man who had just been so incomparably affectionate, Chen Qingdi, suddenly became exceedingly calm.

“As for the two Shuang’Ers, just let them be. Let them eat when it’s time to eat and sleep when it’s time to sleep. Don’t interfere with their daily routine. However, you are absolutely forbidden from providing them with anything that contains information about the outside world. And you are certainly not to discuss outside affairs in front of them!”

Quite bewildered, a few of the disciples asked, “Master, aren’t these two girls your greatest loves?”

“Perhaps,”

Chen Qingdi said with a wry smile.

“Who wouldn’t love such beautiful girls?”

Seeing his nonchalant expression, the female disciples had a sudden, intuitive realization: their master had never intended to love either of the two Shuang’Ers. The recent scene had been nothing more than part of the interrogation.

Chen Qingdi returned to the secret hospital where his wife was being treated. Upon entering her room, he noticed her brow furrow slightly.

He then realized that his wife had always been particularly sensitive to perfume. Whenever he came home from somewhere else with the scent of another’s perfume clinging to him, she would frown just like this to express her displeasure.

She had this subconscious reaction even in her current state.

Chen Qingdi went into the adjoining bathroom, took a thorough shower, and changed into a fresh set of clothes. Only then did he emerge and go to his wife’s bedside to gently caress her cheek.

His touch, while not as fiery and passionate as his earlier act, felt more genuine and domestic.

“Mingyue, please don’t worry. I was just taking care of business. I haven’t done anything to betray you. The two girls who poisoned you are now under control. I’m confident it won’t be long before I find the antidote. Trust me!”

As he spoke, he placed a gentle kiss on his wife’s forehead.

Shen Mingyue’s furrowed brow suddenly smoothed out. Whether intentionally or not, a faint, blissful smile graced her lips.

Chen Qingdi gently took one of her hands and felt for her pulse.

Her pulse was stable, with no detectable trace of any toxin.

He sighed and called for the attending physician, Director Teng, to get an update on his wife’s condition.

Director Teng shook his head apologetically.

“Lord Imperial Physician, it is a failing of our hospital. Even you do not know the origin of this poison, so we are completely in the dark. But please be assured, we will do everything in our power to maintain your wife’s current vitals and prevent her condition from deteriorating in any way!”

“Thank you for your hard work.”

As a doctor himself, Chen Qingdi understood their difficulties perfectly and didn’t make any demands that were beyond their capabilities.

After leaving the hospital room, Chen Qingdi requested special security personnel from the War God.

The security posture was tight internally but appeared relaxed externally, a constant vigil against another attempt on her life.

Once these arrangements were made, he instructed Director Teng to spread a rumor: the Lord Imperial Physician had found a lead and would immediately begin concocting the Antitoxic Spirit Medicine.

In an instant, the news that Chen Qingdi could cure this strange poison spread like wildfire through all the relevant circles.

Ostensibly, many prominent families called Chen Qingdi, feigning concern for his family’s affairs while actually probing for medical secrets.

Before long, Chen Qingdi noticed people trying to cause trouble at the hospital.

After being repelled several times by the men led by Chen Yuan, their target shifted to Chen Qingdi’s villa on Yuding Mountain.

That day, Chen Qingdi had Lin Qingmeng help him spread another rumor: he was personally developing the antidote in the two basement rooms of his Cloudtop Villa. Furthermore, he intended to test the medicine’s efficacy on the two poisoners.

After this news got out, Chen Qingdi noticed an increase in the number of spies around his villa.

Several groups of troublesome individuals were beaten back by the villa’s security guards.

Lately, things around the villa seemed to have quieted down. ‘This high level of security won’t work,’ Chen Qingdi thought to himself. ‘Isn’t this going to ruin my grand plan?’

So he called the property manager. “Manager Zhao, I need you to pull back some of the guards and reduce the number of patrols.”

Manager Zhao broke out in a cold sweat. “Sir, please don’t joke like that. If anything happens to you and the ladies, the War God will have my hide!”

The War God he referred to was Jia Mu War God Long Xiaotian, a man whose power was as great as his temper. No one dared to cross him.

Chen Qingdi laughed. “Ah, just pretend to relax the official security. Instead, deploy more people in disguise. Have them pose as residents, or hide them in the nearby unsold properties. They can emerge if there’s any trouble. All this tension is bad for the other homeowners’ morale.”

Manager Zhao was a sharp man and immediately understood Chen Qingdi’s intent.

“Since that’s what you’re asking, Sir, then of course we’ll cooperate. Say no more!”

Chen Qingdi smiled. “Thank you for your help, Manager Zhao. After this is over, our Mingyue Group plans to donate some new security equipment to your property management! It should help improve your efficiency.”

After Chen Qingdi gave the order, the area around the community and its detached villas grew livelier. A crowd of streamers and vloggers appeared, taking photos and live-streaming from the perimeter.

These developments were promptly reported back to Chen Qingdi, but he paid them no mind, letting the streamers take their pictures and do as they pleased.

That very night, on a moonless and windy evening…

Suddenly, several strange figures crept toward the villa. Their path was uncanny; they perfectly avoided all the security cameras before silently vaulting the low wall.

They didn’t have the code for the gate, but they were equipped with incredible wall-climbing gadgets.

These devices utilized advanced technology; when pressed firmly against a surface, they generated an incredible capillary force.
