Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 893 It’s Nathaniel Monroe
The mask was pulled down, revealing Nathaniel Monroe’s face. He had been missing without a trace. Chloe Reed had assumed that falling into William Quinn’s hands meant a grim fate for him, yet she never expected to run into him here.
No, it wasn’t a coincidence. He had deliberately approached her with premeditation. And by the looks of it, he was keeping this a secret from everyone else.
"Chloe, it’s been a while." Nathaniel glanced at her, pulling the car over to the side of the road. A bitter smile touched his lips.
Chloe put away her dagger and asked anxiously, "How did you escape? Are you hurt?"
Nathaniel’s gaze was complicated as he looked at her. "Chloe, when did your voice recover?"
"Recently," Chloe said.
"That’s good," Nathaniel sighed with genuine relief. Then, he answered her original question. "William Quinn let me go. He didn’t make things difficult for me."
Hearing this, Chloe’s eyes widened in disbelief. She wondered if William Quinn had actually let Nathaniel go voluntarily. Wasn’t Nathaniel supposed to be his love rival? The man was a complete lunatic capable of anything. How could he have let him off so easily?
"Chloe, you’re confused, aren’t you?" Nathaniel saw right through her thoughts and didn’t beat around the bush. "It was Iris Yates. She begged William to let me go. The price was that she had to stay by his side for the rest of her life."
As he spoke, Nathaniel’s hands clenched into fists. His expression was intensely grim, and he was trying with all his might to restrain himself from smashing the steering wheel.
Chloe’s pupils contracted sharply, the color draining from her face. Her lips trembled as a wave of bitter sorrow welled up in her chest. Her voice was naturally a bit raspy, but right now it sounded exceptionally strained. "Is Iris... doing okay?"
Nathaniel squeezed his eyes shut in agony. "She’s not hurt. William is taking very good care of her."
He didn’t want to admit it, but it was the truth. William Quinn was ruthless and merciless to everyone—except Iris. Yet for some unknown reason, he treated Iris with such tenderness. The affection in his eyes was impossible to hide.
Chloe closed her eyes in pain. After a long moment, she said, "But that isn’t the life Iris wants. She isn’t staying with him willingly."
"I know." Nathaniel fully agreed with her. "That’s why I’m still going to try and bring her back. But before I do that, there’s something I need to tell you."
Chloe opened her eyes and looked at him, a trace of confusion coloring her pale face. "What is it?"
Nathaniel took a deep breath. He suddenly gripped the steering wheel tight, an unprecedented fury surfacing on his face. "Walker... Walker Grant has known where William Quinn is from the very beginning. They’ve been in contact this whole time!"
At those words, Chloe’s mind went blank, a loud ringing filling her ears. Disbelief washed over her features, and she instinctively denied it. "How is that possible...?"
Nathaniel gave a dismal smile. "I didn’t believe it either, but William showed me the proof. They’ve been exchanging emails the entire time."
He cast a complicated look at Chloe. Unable to bring himself to reveal the whole truth, he merely said vaguely, "They’ve been making deals. He... he lied to us."
Chloe’s fingers curled tightly together, her heart a tangle of immense shock and disbelief. She kept denying it in her mind. How could that be possible? When Iris was taken away by William, Walker had even sent helicopters after them. Later, he told her that he was constantly searching, but William was just too cunning to be tracked down!
