Chapter 891: Will Be Together with Chloe Reed

  • Next Chapter

It was a blatant accusation that Chloe Reed was a heartless, unfeeling, and ungrateful person. The mother and daughter had a huge problem with her, but due to the intimidating presence of Walker Grant, they didn’t dare actually do anything.

Chloe paid them no mind, her expression remaining composed. She looked at Preston Vance and asked, "Are the test results out?"

Seeing that she wasn’t affected, Preston felt relieved. A flash of hidden anger quickly surfaced in him, but he suppressed it, saying gently, "Yeah, they just came out. There are no major issues, so I can be discharged."

Chloe nodded. "That’s good."

Thoroughly ignored, Mrs. Vance’s face darkened. She turned to Preston and said, "Preston, you’re not getting any younger. Once you’ve recovered, you should meet with Director Shaw’s daughter. You two went to the same school, so you should have a lot in common. I’ve met the girl a few times. She’s charming, polite, and well-educated. She definitely wouldn’t ignore her elders or lack respect for them like some other people."

Preston furrowed his brows. "Are you looking for a wife for me, or someone to cater to you? Aren’t Ivy and I enough to look after you?"

Mrs. Vance’s expression grew uglier. "Do you look after me? You constantly provoke me, and you never listen to a word I say!"

Preston sighed, "Mom, do you really have to argue with me in front of my friend?"

Looking slightly awkward, Mrs. Vance replied, "I don’t want to either, but I worry about you. Both of your positions are very sensitive; it’s best if you don’t get too close..."

Ivy chimed in from the side, "Preston, Mom is just doing this for your own good. Her health has always been poor, so please don’t upset her, okay?"

Preston’s head throbbed. His mother and sister’s endless nagging over these matters left him deeply frustrated. He couldn’t help but look at Chloe. Forcing a helpless smile, he said, "Chloe, I’m sorry you had to see this. I’m afraid I won’t be able to host you properly today."

Chloe curled her lips into a faint smile. "It’s fine. I just came to check on you. Since you’re alright, I’ll take my leave. Let’s catch up another day."

"Alright." Preston watched her walk away.

Mrs. Vance let out a sigh of relief. "Preston, you shouldn’t get too involved with a married woman. Do you want outsiders to treat our family like a joke?"

Ivy added, "Preston, she’s not worth your feelings at all. You should really look at other girls."

Preston massaged his temples. "Have you two said enough?"

"Preston, I’m only doing this for your own good—" Mrs. Vance started.

Preston lowered his hands and looked up. His expression remained gentle, but his words carried a distinct chill. "It would be best if you stayed out of my business. You wouldn’t want me to treat you the way Walker Grant treats his grandmother, would you?"

Mrs. Vance paled. "Preston, you..."

Almost everyone in high society knew that Walker had sent his own grandmother abroad for Chloe’s sake. It had been nearly a year, and his grandmother still hadn’t returned. Behind their backs, people cursed Chloe for being a femme fatale who had completely bewitched Walker out of his senses.

Naturally, Mrs. Vance didn’t want her son to turn out like that. She stammered, "Preston, I won’t interfere in your affairs anymore, but please don’t get so close to her. She’s nothing but a jinx."
