Chapter 1453: A Compromise Made Out of Necessity
Chapter 1453: Chapter 1453: A Compromise Made Out of Necessity
Sifuer is willing to sacrifice her life to warn me of danger, so why shouldn’t I risk my life for justice? Pei Yan isn’t reluctant to risk his own life; rather, he doesn’t want to put his friends in danger. Once he uncovers the truth, he will seize the opportunity to seek justice for Sifuer.
"Hiss! Huff!" After convincing himself, Pei Yan looked up at the sky, taking a deep breath before making his final decision. He then turned to the Audess Witch, forced a smile and said helplessly, "I truly admire you. You’ve successfully convinced me! You’re right, this matter has nothing to do with me, Pei Yan. I don’t have the authority to judge Flamel’s crimes, but as the Silver Wing Prince of the Demon Race, I should have the right to take these Demon Race members away, right? Or is there a reason they must be detained?"
Upon hearing this, the Bishop of the Bright Church wanted to step forward in protest, but Audess Witch gestured to stop him. The matter had already been discussed openly, and it was no longer important whether the truth was revealed or if any lives were at stake. As long as the Masters of Origin from both realms manage the negotiations well, truth can become falsehood and falsehood can become truth. There’s no need to create complications over this matter and give Pei Yan a chance to cause trouble. Therefore, Audess nodded with a smile and agreed, "Of course you can! After all, when we initially confined them, it was to prevent any rash actions by the emotional Demon Race entourage. We were waiting for the Holy City to send new emissaries to investigate the matter together. It’s a shame that tragedy still ensued! I don’t know why Bailang concocted the lie that we wanted to silence them by killing. I’m also reluctant to pursue charges for his killing of over twenty of our guards. I see it merely as an imprudent choice made due to their loyalty to their leader. Therefore, I’m willing to give them a chance to live and also as a gesture to Mr. Pei Yan; you may take them away."
"Then I must thank Audess Witch!" Pei Yan said, bowing deeply to Audess Witch with great courtesy, his bent waist hid a face twisted in anger and humiliation.
"You’re welcome!"
"Hu Jiu, help Mr. Bailang up. Jessica! Hel! We’re leaving!" At the moment he stood up, Pei Yan resumed a blank expression and said calmly.
"Mr. Pei Yan, are we just leaving like this? Miss Sifuer..." Jessica, aware that escaping Council City alive is already a great feat, still felt uneasy and looked at Pei Yan, murmuring.
"Don’t worry! Trust me, I will definitely seek justice for Miss Sifuer. When I say justice, I mean true justice, a life for a life kind of justice. No matter the means, I will achieve it." Pei Yan made no attempt to conceal his murderous intent, speaking these words publicly. Perhaps now wasn’t the best time to kill Flamel, but before executing the plan to eliminate Flamel, he would not let him have peace. He wanted Flamel to remain submerged in the terror of awaiting death until that day truly arrived.
"Mr. Pei Yan, can I take your previous words as a threat to the life of a Child of Origin from the Magic Plane?" The Bishop of the Bright Church, who had been overshadowed by Audess Witch, finally found an opportunity to speak and questioned.
"You can think whatever you want! If Flamel suddenly dies in bed tomorrow, consider me a suspect. I don’t mind. As long as you have the ability to capture me back in the Foundation Plane, I’ll confess and accept punishment!" Pei Yan didn’t even bother to glance at him as he prepared to lead his team away from this city and plane he despised intensely. He feared that if he stayed a minute longer, he might be unable to suppress his rage and unleash it.
Pei Yan’s disdain greatly angered the Bishop, who wanted to speak but was stopped by Audess’s gaze. Meanwhile, Mei Simiao slightly sighed with relief, appreciative of Pei Yan’s ability to prioritize the bigger picture. Now, he just wanted to quickly lead the team away from here. Everything could be planned in detail once they return to the investigation hall, whether it’s seeking leverage from the Immortal Palace Dragon Realm to help the Holy City apply pressure on the Three Conferences to hand over Flamel for trial or finding an opportunity to eliminate him. All plans could minimize damage rather than provoking trouble at others’ doorstep.
Just when everyone thought the matter had temporarily concluded and was close to wrapping up, a horse-drawn carriage approached along another street within the city. The carriage slowed as it reached Pei Yan’s group, the driver pulling the reins to stop it. A person swiftly jumped down from the carriage and hurried to the investigation team’s side, loudly asking, "Excuse me, is this the team from the Foundation Plane Investigation Hall?"
His question tightened the relaxed nerves of the teams present. Pei Yan stopped walking and scrutinized the newcomer, whose attire was indistinguishable from typical individuals from the Magic Plane. Not recognizing him, Pei Yan turned to look at Jessica and others beside him. Seeing them shake their heads indicating they hadn’t seen this person before, Pei Yan pondered for a moment before stepping forward to respond, "Yes! This is the team from the Foundation Plane. Who are you and what do you need?"
"Hello, sir. My name is Silman, and I’m here at someone’s request to find a gentleman named Pei Yan. Do you know him?" Sherman removed his hat and slightly bowed towards Pei Yan, responding courteously.
Looking for him? Pei Yan’s brow furrowed briefly, immediately realizing this matter might be related to Sifuer, and thus he spoke, "I am Pei Yan!" ℯℯ𝘭.
"Oh!" Silman, upon hearing this, examined Pei Yan doubtfully, "Mr. Pei Yan, the person who entrusted me instructed to personally deliver an item to you. But apologies, I haven’t seen you before, so the entrusting person described you as possessing a very special skill—the ability to transform into an alchemy puppet, akin to steel. Could you demonstrate it for me?"
For this request, Pei Yan did not refuse, extending his arm to mechanize it in the presence of the other. Witnessing this, Silman widened his mouth in surprise, exclaiming, "What a wondrous sight! A team composed of people from different planes, a man who can become a steel alchemy puppet—clearly, you match the description set by the client. Mr. Pei Yan, please accept this gift."
With that, Silman turned back to the carriage and retrieved a finely crafted long wooden box from the seat, respectfully handing it back to Pei Yan.
"Mr. Silman, can you tell me who entrusted you to deliver this item?" Pei Yan could discern from Silman’s genuine astonishment upon witnessing his transformation that he wasn’t faking it. Pei Yan didn’t recognize this person, and judging from Silman’s physical condition, he was an ordinary individual without any cultivation. Consequently, Pei Yan was highly curious about who sent him with this item! Could it be that Miss Sifuer anticipated potential accidents, and set up contingencies in advance?
