Chapter 1452: Chapter 1452: Weighing Pros and Cons

"Really? Evidence? All you have is your side of the story!" Audess glanced at Hel, then looked at Pei Yan, calmly saying, "I already mentioned that Mr. Pei Yan and his party did not receive your notification, and standing here safely is the best evidence!"

"If all of this is false, then why did you try to kill Miss Sifuer and silence us?" Jessica immediately refuted Audess’s deliberate distortion of facts.

It seemed Audess anticipated this question. She gazed at Jessica with eyes filled not with anger but pity, regrettably sighing, "The answer lies in the things you just said. Everyone present heard Miss Sifuer’s cold attitude toward her fiancé Flamel, and from the excuses she made, she was willing to sacrifice her life for Mr. Pei Yan’s safety. The meaning is clear: love is blind, and Miss Sifuer evidently favors Mr. Pei Yan. But she should have proposed canceling the engagement to Demon God or her family rather than deceive Mr. Flamel into fleeing Council City to elope with Mr. Pei Yan who arrived at the Magic Realm."

Audess continued, turning to Pei Yan, and delivered the response from Council City on the matter: "In any plane, no man would allow his fiancée to act so disloyally, especially given the previous hostility between Flamel and you. So when he found out he had been deceived, he took extreme measures against Miss Sifuer, leading to her unfortunate death. Mr. Flamel deeply regrets this!"

"No! She is lying! It’s not like that! Lord Pei Yan is not like that! She’s lying! Miss Sifuer, for the sake of her family and the future of the Demon Race, had already decided to accept her fate. If not for the special circumstances, she wouldn’t have made such a choice! You must believe her!" Jessica and Hel could no longer endure Audess’s slander against their master, accusing her of frivolity driven by personal affairs. Having stayed by Sifuer’s side during this time, they understood better than anyone her pain and struggle, and would never allow anyone to tamper with the facts or frame their master after her death.

"Mr. Pei Yan, you said she was your retainer’s sister, so I indulged her questioning me multiple times. I hope you can properly restrain your retainer and let her understand the respect she should show when speaking to a Saint Violet Witch!" Audess, seeing Jessica undeterred, displayed her authority as a superior, unabashedly releasing her aura towards the two while cautioning Pei Yan.

Pei Yan did not intervene; his sister Pei Jin naturally stood in front of several members of the Demon Race, blocking this crush of primal energy. Pei Yan, having listened to this confrontation, nodded knowingly and chuckled bitterly, "It seems this matter isn’t as simple as you said, Audess Witch. To clarify the truth, let Flamel come out and explain the situation to us."

Speaking, Pei Yan shifted his gaze to the nearest mage tower by the city edge. Since realizing this matter involved Flamel, he began searching for his primal energy, believing Flamel must be observing in secret. Sensitive to primal energy, Pei Yan quickly pinpointed the location, knowing Flamel had been lurking within that mage tower, watching everything that transpired here since the incident.

"Hahaha, Mr. Pei Yan! You bring Flamel here to solve the problem with force?" The witch named Audess handled matters far more adeptly and smoothly than the Bright Bishop. She saw through Pei Yan’s intentions, smiling, "It’s clear from your usual style; once I let Flamel appear here, we know what will happen! If such an event occurs, it will only make our situation more embarrassing. Pardon my bluntness; you should not have intervened from the start. You’ve made one wrong choice, setting a bad precedent. I sincerely hope you won’t continue erring."

"Then according to Audess Witch, is Miss Sifuer to die so unjustly?" Pei Yan sternly questioned. 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂

"Of course not!" Audess shook her head and sighed, "I feel deeply regretful for Miss Sifuer’s death. Regardless of her motives or reasons, Mr. Flamel ultimately caused this tragedy. On this, Council City does not intend to conceal nor shield him, but this matter is a marriage between the Magic Realm and Hell Plane. Any problems should be resolved by both parties involved. If you’re interested when judgment is passed, you are welcome to attend. I believe with the two plane’s Masters of Origin intervening, investigating thoroughly, Miss Sifuer will achieve justice."

Audess’s words were rational and reasonable, ultimately pointing out this issue, which has no relation to Pei Yan from the Cornerstone Plane Investigation Bureau. It’s a matter between two planes, and while they’re not avoiding the issue, it’s not Pei Yan’s role to handle it. Yet everyone present understood that if this were handled through formal channels, final negotiations between the two Lords of the Plane might result in a slap on the wrist; Flamel might receive what seems a severe punishment but not death. And if allowed those people to investigate, they might affirm rumors about Sifuer’s elopement, allowing events to favor Flamel’s side.

Pei Yan wasn’t unaware of all this, but Mei Simiao still clung tightly to his arm, her eyes hiding undeniable anxiety and pleading, which seemed like buckets of cold water dampening Pei Yan’s burning anger.

He couldn’t be impulsive! This was Council City! Unlike the Daoist Plane, he could not act with abandon simply by holding up justice, because Lin Ruxue, keen on recruiting Lin Junzhao, and Master of Origin of the plane were backing him, allowing Pei Yan to find success through leveraging their strength.

But here was Council City! Between Lin Junzhao and Supreme K, an irreconcilable conflict existed, gathered reluctantly to confront Blood Slaughter. Among the three major councils, he’d offended mage towers and the Bright Church, and based on imprisoning Moira, the Witch Association wasn’t fond of Pei Yan. The entire Council City, from top to bottom, had no fondness for him, preferring to see his demise. If he had no substantial grounds for confrontation, they wouldn’t mind taking the opportunity to eliminate him, thus weakening Lin Junzhao and the Cornerstone Plane’s strength!
