Otherworldly Affairs Office
Chapter 1451: The Death of Sifuer
Chapter 1451: Chapter 1451: The Death of Sifuer
Upon hearing these words, Pei Yan immediately understood what had happened. He sighed deeply, looking up at the sky, and said, "The council marriage partner is Flamel, right?"
"Exactly! The supreme leaders of the three councils chose his disciple to marry into the Holy City, and it is he who picked Lord Sifuer as his fiancée." Hel, the maid who had once fought with Xia Yu but yielded after her leg was broken, raised her head, her eyes full of reproach as she confronted Pei Yan, unfazed by the power disparity and her past fear of him.
Pei Yan knew why the other party was looking at him with such eyes. Flamel’s choice of Sifuer, whom he had never met, as his fiancée was likely a vendetta against him. Though Pei Yan never had any romantic entanglement with Sifuer, rumors spread by the Demon Race had depicted their experiences as a touching love story. It was this ambiguous rumor that fueled Flamel’s desire for revenge, ultimately leading to Sifuer’s demise.
At that moment, he also understood the meaning behind Xila giving him Sifuer’s pair of Magic Bells back then. She wanted him to meet Sifuer, but due to a series of affairs, he thought the matter trivial and did not attend to it. Reflecting on this, Pei Yan’s heart felt as if it were being sliced, his fists clenched tightly as he glanced at Mei Simiao.
"I told you, had I known about this beforehand, I certainly wouldn’t have let you near this city. You should be aware since you arrived at the Daoist Plane, the investigation team’s focus has shifted. I’ve been investigating on the Daoist Plane all this time, even the team members who should have been training on the Hell Plane were recalled to headquarters for special training due to Bloodshed’s frequent assaults. I also only learned of this magic and Hell Plane marriage today." Mei Simiao completely understood Pei Yan’s current rage, hastily explaining. How Pei Yan would respond was another matter, but Mei Simiao didn’t want to bear the brunt of Pei Yan thinking the investigation office had intentionally deceived him.
Pei Yan felt even more distressed from Mei Simiao’s words. He recognized that what Mei Simiao said was true. She had been preoccupied with matters of the Immortal Palace, leaving no time to focus on the Demon Race. This was also due to the investigation office’s limited abilities; they could only handle one plane’s affairs with difficulty, unlike the old established planes with stable intelligence sources across the planes.
"Phew!" Pei Yan repeatedly suppressed his anger, regulating his emotions with several deep breaths before questioning further, "Since Sifuer was chosen as the marriage partner, why did she end up dying here? And why are you all wanted?"
"Lord Pei Yan, we arrived here two months ago to prepare for the wedding scheduled a month later. The reason we came so early was to cultivate feelings between Lord Sifuer and Flamel, but..." Jessica spoke while sneaking a glance at Pei Yan, seeing him unmoved and waiting for her answer. She bit her lip before continuing, "But Lord Sifuer was very indifferent to Flamel’s advances until suddenly, a month ago, her attitude changed. Lord Sifuer began getting along harmoniously with her fiancé. Initially, I thought she had come around, but later I realized that wasn’t the case. Every time she returned from spending time with Flamel, she appeared worried, and recently she became even more anxious and despondent. She seemed to know of Lord Pei Yan’s arrival at the Magic Plane and was eager to meet you ahead of time, but we couldn’t find an excuse to leave. Until three days ago, Miss Sifuer unexpectedly decided to risk escaping this place, but she failed! When she returned to our residence, she was gravely injured and near death, with most of her accompanying guards sacrificing themselves. Before dying, she instructed us to leave at all costs and inform Mr. Pei Yan to abandon his current mission and leave the Magic Plane promptly."
Upon saying this, Jessica began sobbing intermittently, "But, but we barely had time to grieve when the guards from the three councils surrounded our residence and detained us. Today, Lord Bailang overheard orders given by the outside guards through Demon Race Secret Technique. They intend to kill us all and pin the blame on Bloodshed to sabotage the marriage. To survive and convey the truth, we decided to fight desperately and managed to break through under Lord Bailang’s leadership, thus we had the fortune to meet you."
A month ago! That would have been when Pei Yan was preparing to battle Delacuri, and three days ago was when he finished the siege around the Vlad family and was preparing to attack the independent space of the Vlad family. After hearing Jessica’s account, Pei Yan lifted his head, contemplating the time points she mentioned related to him. Sifuer must have sensed something, prompting her sudden change in attitude towards Flamel, and it was precisely the matter she discovered that led to her downfall.
Though he had been avoiding the emotions Sifuer displayed towards him, Pei Yan’s heart was still human and hadn’t turned completely mechanical. A girl willing to sacrifice her life for him deeply moved him! But this emotion now turned into regret and anger.
Perhaps when he last met with Sifuer, she already knew her destiny. Had he been more sensitive to emotions, or valued her expressions more, maybe today’s result wouldn’t have occurred. However, there’s no "if" in reality, and he must live with this regret throughout his life.
Thinking of this, Pei Yan was overcome with grief and indignation. He turned to Audess, forced a smile, and questioned, "Audess Witch, is what she said the truth?"
"Yes, and no!" Audess responded calmly.
"Oh? What do you mean by yes and no?"
Confronted with Pei Yan’s clenched-teeth inquiry, Audess glanced around, speaking calmly and politely, "This matter can’t be judged by her word alone. It’s true that Miss Sifuer was cold towards Mr. Flamel, and it’s true her attitude later changed! But there wasn’t any threat to Pei Yan or any dangerous occurrence. If there was, it could only be an excuse or a reason Miss Sifuer invented. And the fact that Mr. Pei Yan stands here safely is proof enough. Without this interference, you and your team would have safely returned to the Keystone Plane long ago, wouldn’t you?"
"No! This is all true! Lord Sifuer wouldn’t randomly create something like this!" Upon hearing someone call her master, whom she loyally served, and lifelong friend, a paranoid madwoman, Hel could not bear it and loudly rebutted.
