Chapter 1454: Chapter 1454: An Unexpected Gift

"Mr. Pei Yan, a gentleman named Bai Ze entrusted me to deliver this to you! He said it’s a gift from him and Mr. Mu Fanchen."

When Silman, responsible for delivering the gift, awkwardly vocalized these two names in phonetic Chinese, everyone’s face changed, including Pei Yan’s. This item was actually sent by Bai Ze and Mu Fanchen? Just as Pei Yan was taken aback, he suddenly sensed a fluctuation in energy from afar. Two gusts of Wind Blade tore open a rift in the space, aiming at the box in Pei Yan’s hand and Silman’s neck.

Silencing the witness!

Without thinking, Pei Yan protected the box behind him while pulling Silman aside. There was no need for him to intervene as Peng Lang from the group snapped his fingers, and two tiny air vortices appeared in front of the Wind Blades. Redirected by the vortex’s force, the Wind Blades were deflected to the sides with a metallic clashing sound.

Seeing the sudden attack, Silman was clearly terrified, his face pale, staring blankly at Pei Yan, who had just saved his life, unable to comprehend why he was thrust into such unforeseen disaster.

"Where is the person who sent you? How did you know him? What did he instruct you to do?" Pei Yan turned to the trembling Silman beside him and asked.

Realizing the situation was more complicated than he imagined, Silman quickly spilled everything he knew to save himself: "I don’t know him! I’m just a dock worker in the city responsible for loading and unloading goods. A week ago, someone approached me, gave me money, and hired a cart specifically for me. I was instructed to wait at the city’s entrance for a month, and if I saw a group of foreigners who looked different from us, I should step forward and say what I just did. If they fit the description, I could hand over the box. It wasn’t just me; several others were hired to guard various city entrances."

"Then why didn’t you approach us for the transaction earlier?" Mei Simiao inquired from the side.

"I had just returned from lunch and intended to approach you to deliver the item. However, I suddenly saw knights from the church chasing a fugitive and meeting with you, so I was afraid of causing trouble and didn’t dare to show up! It was only after I saw that nothing seemed amiss after your conversation and you seemed ready to leave that I gathered the courage to come out and give you the item." Silman explained and looked sheepishly at Pei Yan and the others: "The man who asked me to deliver the goods promised that whoever personally handed the item to Mr. Pei Yan would receive a very generous reward, so..."

It appears Bai Ze hired many people to deliver this item, indicating that what’s in the box isn’t particularly valuable. What’s important is for me to see its contents. Judging from the previous two Wind Blades, the person trying to stop me clearly doesn’t want me to see it. It seems the box does indeed contain information related to Sifuer’s death.

With that in mind, Pei Yan didn’t immediately open the box. Instead, he conjured images of Bai Ze and Mu Fanchen and asked, "Was the person who sent you one of these two?"

"No!" Silman glanced at the images and shook his head vigorously: "The one who hired me wasn’t someone from a different plane."

Expecting that Bai Ze wouldn’t be foolish enough to do this personally, Pei Yan withdrew the illusion with a smile and said, "What that person told you was right, I and he are old friends! Don’t worry, after I’ve verified the contents, I’ll reward you accordingly, but I do need a small favor from you." He pointed at Ye Ruozai and continued, "This person will guide you in reviewing your memory to see if what you said is accurate and also identify the person who gave you the task. Rest assured, this won’t harm your body, just do as instructed, and after the check, I’ll give you an additional reward."

"Oh, okay!" Silman was internally reluctant with tens of thousands of rejections, but seeing the fierce demeanor of the group before him, he realized refusing might lead to even greater trouble. For his own safety and the promised reward, he reluctantly agreed to Pei Yan’s arrangement.

After giving these instructions, Pei Yan strode back to the crowd where the three great councils were, and smiling, he looked at the increasingly displeased Audess Witch and queried, "Audess Witch, I wish to know what was the meaning behind the sudden attack from the Mage Tower targeting me?"

"Mr. Pei Yan, do not mislead. You should be aware the two attacks weren’t aimed at you, but at the delivery man. Bai Ze and Mu Fanchen, being key figures in the Bloodshard, are on the wanted lists across planes. They must be clear targets! I advise against any entanglements with them, quickly destroy what you’re holding! It could be a trap they set!" Audess sternly advised, appearing well-intentioned.

"What Audess Witch says makes sense. However, having crossed paths with Bai Ze multiple times, even though I’ve managed to dominate the fights, I’ve often fallen victim to his schemes, piquing my competitive spirit. I must see what’s inside this box! To prove I have no private dealings with Bai Ze, I’ve decided to open the box publicly before esteemed representatives from various planes to expose Bloodshard’s plots." Pei Yan declared righteously, preparing to open the box.

"Mr. Pei Yan! Are you truly pushing this matter into an irretrievable abyss? Mr. Mei Simiao, should you not try to dissuade him?" Just as Pei Yan was about to open the box, Audess harshly criticized.

"Alas!" Mei Simiao sighed upwardly, did not respond to Audess, nor stopped Pei Yan, but turned and walked away, while starting to communicate with headquarters to report all that transpired here.

Advise? What kind of advice, when he knew Pei Yan’s temper all too well? If the contents within have nothing to do with Sifuer, all is okay. But if it indeed contains evidence of the truth behind Sifuer’s casualty, today, even if the three councils are the Celestial Palace, Pei Yan would turn into Monkey Sun and cause a ruckus.

What he must do now is find someone capable of convincing him, else bring reinforcements! ℯ

Seeing the only person on-site capable of restraining Pei Yan taking such an attitude, Audess was momentarily stunned, during which Pei Yan had already moved far enough to remotely use mechanical arms to lift the wooden box’s lid.

There was no trap or hidden mechanism, just three Crystal Balls neatly placed inside the box, as Pei Yan had anticipated. It seems Bai Ze indeed intended to pass a message to him. With this thought, Pei Yan walked to the box and started inspecting the Crystal Balls one by one.
