Chapter 259: 259: Food Is Ready

Ayra was still in her room in her beast form. She sat on the bed with her little ones surrounding her.

The triplet snake cubs were in their beast forms, circling around Ayra and playing all over her furry body. The dragon cub was in his human form, stroking her fur and gently patting her.

Rai and Kan stood nearby with their arms folded as they watched. "Are you sure you’re okay with the little ones playing around like that?" Rai asked, worried that Ayra needed some rest.

"Mama wants to play with us," Neris insisted.

"We’re not disturbing Mama. We’re making her feel better," Nat said as they moved around her body playfully and gently.

Ayra smiled as she looked at Rai. "It’s okay. I’m fine."

They continued playing around her body until the rest finally made their way into the room. They were done with the cooking and had arrived with bowls of porridge, which they had prepared for Ayra, as well as some for everyone else to taste.

"Food is ready," Lord Vale announced with a smile as they entered.

Everyone paused as the little cubs excitedly looked up.

The triplet snakes immediately left Ayra and rushed over to Lord Vale and Lord Zark, who were carrying the bowls of porridge.

"Food! Dood! Food!" the three of them chanted excitedly, running around Vale and Zark so wildly that they almost knocked into them and made them spill the food.

"Hey, hey, hey! Easy..." Ash warned as he quickly picked one of them up, while Commander Lynn and Nyx each grabbed another.

Zay sat quietly in the corner, watching curiously as Ally went over and sat beside him, gently patting his hair and horn.

"I thought you all would never be done," Ayra teased with a smile as she stared at them.

"Sorry for the delay. Someone was being too precise..." Ash teased, glancing at Vale.

Vale rolled his eyes. "It’s finally done, so here it goes."

They opened the bowls of food before Ayra as everyone sat around, staring down at the meal in front of them.

There was silence for a while before Vale finally asked, "So? How does it look? Or smell...?"

Ayra tilted her head, trying to form an opinion, but Rai and Kan were fast enough to judge.

"What does it look like that?" Rai asked, raising an eyebrow.

"This looks like it’d taste terrible..." Kan concluded.

"Shut up," Commander Lynn snapped. "It doesn’t look that bad..."

Ayra smiled and shook her head. The first thing she did was confirm with her system whether the food contained any poison that could potentially harm her or her little ones.

But the system confirmed otherwise.

[Don’t worry, Host. It can’t be bad enough to make Host sick or even die.]

Ayra blinked.

"That bad?"

She stared at the meal again. They had all put in their effort, so she had to appreciate it. Besides, she needed to finish this task.

"Feed me. I’m already starving," she said with a smile, looking up at Zark, who was sitting closest to her.

"I’ll feed you. He probably doesn’t want to..." Ash started to say as he stepped forward, but Zark instantly took his spot.

"Okay, I will," Zark said immediately, as if he had been waiting for this opportunity all his life.

Everyone fell silent.

"The Dragon Lord sure wants to pamper Ayra today," Kan said, shaking his head along with Rai.

Zark was anxious for a moment as he picked up the spoon to feed her. He was shy about it, but when he saw Ayra sitting there with her mouth open and eyes closed, he couldn’t keep her waiting.

He gently fed her the porridge while staring at her, anxiously waiting for her reaction.

"So? How is it...?" Vale asked as the five mates leaned closer, curious to hear what she had to say.

"..."

Ayra allowed the porridge to settle in her mouth as she closed her eyes, trying to get a better taste.

Then it hit.

The terrible taste of the sweet potato porridge was completely different from what she had expected. It lingered between being awkwardly sweet and strangely dry, with the ingredients not properly mixed together.

Ayra slowly tilted her head, making a strange face as she tried to figure out what she was even tasting. It was horrible, but it wasn’t completely unbearable either.

Yet when she looked up, everyone had their curious eyes fixed on her. Even her mates were dying to know what she thought.

Ayra slowly smiled. "Oh, well... it’s not bad. I mean... it has some good sides to it as well. It’s actually good..."

She didn’t want to crush their efforts. At the very least, she should say something positive so they would feel better and continue working hard.

Immediately, all five of them smiled and leaned back, looking rather relieved.

"I am sure I know what I did," Vale said, folding his arms. "This is my area. It didn’t turn out perfectly, but I think I should cook more."

Ash scoffed. "As the one in charge of the food and all, this is my area. It was all because of my knowledge that we managed to make it. She likes it because of me."

While the two bickered, the remaining three stared at them and casually shook their heads.

Ally stared at the meal before Ayra, then looked at her properly. "Mama, are you sure of what you’re saying right now...?"

Rai nodded. "Yes... Are you sure? Or is someone threatening you or something...?"

"..."

The question left the five mates speechless.

"Mama, Mama! Let me have a taste!" The triplet snakes instantly rushed to the front and leaned toward the bowl.

Ayra smiled nervously. "Ah, no. It’s not for you. This is for the sick, like me, so..."

She really didn’t want the little ones to taste this.

But Lord Vale simply smiled. "It’s for everyone! We made it for all of us. So the little ones can have it too."

Ayra couldn’t stop them.

So she could only sit there and watch as Vale happily fed the sweet potato porridge to the triplet snakes, who sat happily before her, completely unaware of the terrible taste they were about to experience.
