Chapter 258: 258: Apprentice Worthy

Ally struggled not to laugh aloud at the mess she had already predicted. But the other cooks there were terrible at hiding their laughter.

The Rabbit Chef ran a hand over his forehead, shaking his head as he muttered, "I saw this coming..."

Vale was still making a funny face as he tried to clean his mouth from what he had just tasted. He even drank a lot of water in the process.

Lord Ash stared at the food and shook his head. "How did you even prepare that soup for Ayra back then at the Snake Tribe?"

Vale cleared his throat. "Well, I just repeated what she taught me..."

Nyx shook his head as he stared at the scene.

The Rabbit Chef also shook his head as he approached the pot. He decided to have a taste himself to figure out what the problem was and how they could fix it.

After tasting it, he instantly spat it out and hurriedly rinsed his mouth with plenty of water.

"Too salty..." he said, making a funny face.

"I mean, obviously." Nyx tilted his head.

The Rabbit Chef stood there, running a hand over his chin as he thought of a way to fix the problem immediately.

Ally had just finished laughing when she suddenly said, "What if we just add the honey and milk and blend it together? It should mix well and make the taste of the salt less obvious."

She casually suggested it as Lord Ash shook his head.

"It doesn’t work like that, little one. Sit and let Papa do the work," Lord Ash said, running a hand over his chin as he also tried to think of a solution.

But the Rabbit Chef suddenly paused. He looked up with a smile.

"Yes! That’s a perfect countermeasure! Let’s do that."

"...."

Ash was surprised. "Huh? It is?"

The Rabbit Chef nodded. "Yes. It’s worth trying." He then turned to Ally. "How did you learn about this when you haven’t even cooked before?"

Ally smiled and shrugged. "I’ve watched Mama cook a lot, so I’ve seen a lot."

The Rabbit Chef nodded with a smile. "That’s good. An apprentice worthy! I’ll have to take you in as my personal assistant, then."

Ally smiled happily as she sat up and approached them.

The other mates watched in surprise as Ally came to stand enthusiastically beside the Rabbit Chef.

"Now, let’s proceed together and save the porridge," the Rabbit Chef said as the two of them began gathering the remaining ingredients, mainly the milk and honey that needed to be added.

The five mates stood there watching them get to work. After a while, Lord Ash asked, "So... how may we help? Do you need us in any way?"

"No, thanks," the Rabbit Chef said. "You’ve worked hard enough. Now you can go and take a seat and let us do the rest."

"...."

Lord Ash blinked before turning to stare at Vale, shaking his head.

"Your fault, Mr. Precision."

Vale rolled his eyes. "It was just some miscalculation," he defended himself.

And so, they watched as the Rabbit Chef and Ally added the correct amounts of milk and honey into the porridge. Ally gave recommendations based on what she had seen Ayra do, while the Rabbit Chef also relied on what he knew.

After mixing everything together, the Rabbit Chef tasted it and tilted his head.

"Something is not quite right..." He blinked as he stared down at Ally.

Ally also tasted it and made a face. The two of them exchanged glances, both thinking about what to do next.

"Let’s add some salt," Ally suggested.

The Rabbit Chef smiled and nodded. "Yes. Makes sense. We’ll add a little to balance it and..."

"And some water," Ally added.

The Rabbit Chef immediately nodded profusely with a smile.

"Perfect! That’s perfect thinking!"

The Rabbit Chef praised her as the two of them high-fived before proceeding to add the necessary ingredients to fix it.

The others stood there watching with their arms folded. They were rather impressed by the teamwork.

"I didn’t know my daughter was better than me at cooking," Lord Ash said, shaking his head as he watched them.

"I mean, it’s a given it was going to happen. You never cook, even though you’re in charge of the food," Lord Vale roasted him, shaking his head.

Ash cast him a cold glare and snapped, "At least I didn’t add all the salt to the food."

Vale stared back at him, the two of them exchanging cold, fiery glares.

Meanwhile, Ally and the Rabbit Chef continued working until they were finally done. The two of them tasted it again and stared at each other with a smile.

"Hmmm, not so bad..." the Rabbit Chef said. "At least we were able to save it from its terrible state. It’s not so good, but it could have been worse, I guess..."

Ally nodded. "It’s certainly not good, but at least it’s not bad either. Better than its previous state."

And so, the two of them nodded in agreement over their creation before covering the pot and allowing the porridge to continue cooking over the fire.

Lord Ash shook his head as he watched them before asking Ally, "You seem knowledgeable in this. Why didn’t you come and join us in preparing it?"

Ally smiled and shrugged. "Well... no one asked me."

"...."

Ash blinked before slowly nodding.

"You all were persistent about preparing it yourselves, too," the Rabbit Chef reminded them.

"You don’t have to rub it in," Vale said, clearing his throat.

Ally smiled as she added, "Besides, it was fun watching you all mess up."

She smiled with satisfaction.

"....."

The five mates stared at each other before turning their attention back to Ally.

"You little rascal." Lord Ash smiled as he gently pinched her nose.

---

It didn’t take too long before the sweet potato porridge they had been making was finally done and ready.

The Rabbit Chef declared it ready, and they transferred the required portion into a food bowl. Then, they carefully carried it to Ayra so she could finally have a taste.
