Chapter 53: Reaching Level 15, Meeting With Azaroth
Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Reaching Level 15, Meeting With Azaroth
Your resistance to poison was directly tied to your Constitution.
The higher it was, the more your body could endure toxic effects without suffering real damage.
Because of that, someone like Emilia, whose Constitution was constantly multiplied by five thanks to her [Title], had almost nothing to fear from poison at this level.
Even so, the moment the panel appeared in front of her eyes, she didn’t hesitate.
She quickly pulled out the [Poison Antidote] and gulped it down in one smooth motion.
“Just so you know,” Leon said calmly, glancing at her as if the poison warning in front of him didn’t exist at all, “this level of poison wouldn’t have killed you.”
“I know,” Emilia replied with a small smile, “but status effects are bad. All of them. No exceptions.”
“…Sure,” Leon answered, not bothering to argue.
Poison didn’t slow him down in the slightest.
His Constitution alone was more than enough to suppress its effects, and even if it worsened, he knew he could simply endure it until it faded or cleanse it later.
Right now, the boss in front of them mattered far more.
Leon lifted his staff and pointed it straight at the massive snake. Emilia mirrored his movement, raising her scepter and taking aim without hesitation.
Powerful Fireball! Divine Beam!
A blazing fireball shot forward first, tearing through the air and slamming directly into the boss’s body.
Almost at the same time, a brilliant beam of light followed, piercing through the snake’s torso with overwhelming force.
The attacks landed almost simultaneously. There was no roar. No counterattack.
The [Snake of Toxin] didn’t even have time to react.
Its massive body convulsed once before collapsing onto the ground, the green cracks across its scales dimming as its life faded instantly.
The entire clearing fell silent.
“What…?!”
The elves who had been fighting froze, their weapons still raised as they turned to stare at Leon and Emilia.
Their expressions stiffened, shock and disbelief written plainly on their faces.
Ding!
[You have killed “Snake of Toxin (Boss)” and gained 1,400 experience points.]
[100% Drop Rate has triggered…]
’Nice.’
Leon felt a familiar sense of satisfaction as the notification appeared.
Everyone who had contributed to the fight gained the same amount of experience, but unlike the others, his talent had activated.
And then, another sound followed.
Ding!
[Congratulations, you have leveled up to Level 15!]
[Due to “Heaven’s Blessing”, you have gained 100 points in all attributes and 100 free points to distribute.]
“Nice,” Leon muttered quietly.
The next assessment wouldn’t happen until level 25, but leveling up still mattered.
Every increase pushed him further ahead, widening the gap between him and the average player.
Leon wanted to immediately check the items he obtained. He also wanted to see if he could finally equip some of the gear that required level 15.
But before he could—
“Did that guy just steal our kill?!”
“We did most of the work, and he just jumped in at the end!”
“Hey! The girl next to him is an elf, what the hell is a human doing with an elf?!”
Voices erupted all around them. Even though the elves had lost nothing from this; they were still furious.
Leon could already tell that even if he had saved them from death or severe injury, their reaction wouldn’t have been much different. In their eyes, he had crossed a line.
Relationships between races in the [Lower Domain] of [Eternal Ascension] were terrible.
Most players stuck strictly to their own race. Humans stayed with humans. Elves stayed with elves. And so on.
Nobody tried to change that.
It was only in the [Higher Domain] that this mindset began to crumble. The dangers there were simply too great to rely only on your own kind. Strength mattered more than race.
Of course, the world you came from still played a huge role. High-level worlds produced stronger players, giving them natural advantages over those from weaker worlds.
But in the end, as long as you were strong enough, none of that mattered.
That was another reason why Leon and Emilia standing together always drew attention.
“You interfered in our battle when we never asked you to,” the leader of the elves stepped forward.
He was tall, with long silver hair that fell past his shoulders, and he held a staff tightly in his hands. His eyes were sharp, filled with restrained anger.
“Did you think we were weak enough to die?” he continued.
“No,” Leon replied with a shrug, his tone flat, “but I wanted the kill.”
The answer was blunt. Honest. And completely unapologetic.
“This—”
“How dare you steal our kill!”
“You still got the experience,” Leon said calmly.
That single sentence shut them up. They all knew it was true.
None of them had lost anything. The system had distributed the rewards to everyone who participated.
But pride wasn’t something logic could soothe. After a brief silence, the leader spoke again.
“We’ll let it slide this one time,” he said, activating [Appraisal] on Leon. “But next time, we won’t be so forgiving. Both you and your girlfriend. Even if she’s an elf.”
Emilia remained silent, her expression calm.
She didn’t want to escalate things unnecessarily.
Besides… she knew Leon could wipe the floor with all of them if he wanted to. So she let him handle it.
The group of elves began to move away, clearly unwilling to push the issue further.
But just before they left the clearing completely, Leon activated [Appraisal] on their leader as well.
—
[Name: Azaroth Vekins]
[ID: MightyElf]
[Level: 15]
[Talent: ???]
[Skills: ???]
[Combat Power: ???]
[Status: Enraged by this lowly human’s intervention.]
—
“Oh?” Leon muttered under his breath.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he took in the information.
“You know him?” Emilia asked, tilting her head.
“Not really,” Leon replied, shaking his head slowly.
The reason he recognized the name wasn’t because Azaroth played a major role in the future.
It was because he ranked second in the [Shadow Horde] event.
Leon remembered it clearly. That alone made Azaroth dangerous.
Azaroth likely recognized Leon’s ID as well. And judging from his reaction, he wasn’t stupid enough to start a fight with someone who ranked higher than him.
As for whether Azaroth would matter in the future… Leon couldn’t say.
Would he side with the gods eventually? Would he accept their power?
The thought lingered.
When Leon eventually entered the [Higher Domain] and began encountering people who aligned themselves with the gods… would he kill them?
Some of them were arrogant from the start.
Others were decent people, until they accepted divine power and changed.
Would he hesitate then? Leon closed his eyes for a moment, his thoughts heavy.
“…No,” he finally muttered. “I can’t let what happened in my past life happen again.”
If these people were going to side with the gods or beings just as powerful, it would be better to eliminate them early, while he still had the chance.
Many of them would become monsters in their own right.
He would have to be careful. But his choice was already made.
Leon opened his eyes, his expression calm once more.
For now, there were more immediate things to deal with.
He opened his [Storage Space].
