Chapter 52: Basic Skeletons Fight, Over 1,000 Attributes!

Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Basic Skeletons Fight, Over 1,000 Attributes!

The three [Basic Skeletons] rushed forward the moment Leon gave the silent command, their bony feet scraping against the forest floor as they surrounded the mutated [Toxic Snake].

From the very start, however, it was obvious that this fight would not go the way Leon had hoped.

The snake moved differently from the normal ones they had encountered earlier.

Its body twisted in sharp, unnatural angles, green venom seeping from the cracks along its scales. Before the skeletons could even coordinate their attacks, the snake struck.

Clang!

One skeleton swung its rusty sword downward, but the blade was knocked aside with ease.

Another tried to stab from the side, only for the snake’s tail to whip around and shatter its ribs in a single blow.

Then, with terrifying speed, the mutated snake lunged forward, its jaws opening wide.

Crunch!

It clamped down on the third skeleton’s skull and tore it clean off, tossing the head aside like it was nothing more than scrap.

“…Damn,” Leon muttered, letting out a slow sigh.

He hadn’t expected much from the skeletons, but this was still disappointing to watch. They weren’t just weaker, they were completely outclassed.

Compared to this, the summons of the [Undead King] from his past life were on an entirely different level.

That being could casually summon [Undead Knights] with combat power surpassing 15,000.

These skeletons, on the other hand, felt fragile, almost unfinished.

“I have an idea,” Emilia suddenly said, stepping forward and raising her scepter toward one of the remaining skeletons.

Strength Buff! Speed Buff!

Light gathered at the tip of her scepter as she tried to cast the spells, but before they could take effect, a sharp sound echoed in the air.

Beep!

[Only the master can interact with his skeletons.]

Emilia blinked in surprise before quickly sending the panel over to Leon. He glanced at it and nodded once in understanding.

“That complicates things,” he said calmly.

He had no intention of learning support-type spells anytime soon.

His build was already leaning heavily toward offense and survivability. Adding buffs into the mix would only slow him down and dilute his focus.

That meant these skeletons would either need to improve on their own… or remain limited.

Slash!

Leon didn’t wait any longer. He dashed forward in a blur, his blade flashing through the air.

With a single clean strike, he decapitated the mutated [Toxic Snake] just as it was about to crush another skeleton.

The massive head hit the ground with a dull thud, its body twitching briefly before going still.

“I only have two now,” Leon said, glancing at the remaining skeletons.

He immediately tried to activate [Basic Necromancy] again.

Ding!

[You can only summon one skeleton every three minutes after their death.]

“Alright,” Leon replied, unfazed.

[Basic Necromancy] was still only an E-Level sub-talent. The restrictions were annoying, but they were expected. At this stage, it was more of a foundation than a complete ability.

If he could upgrade it… if he could unlock stronger undead or additional types… then things might change entirely.

For now, though, their usefulness was limited.

“Scouting might be all they’re good for,” Leon thought.

Ding!

[You have killed “Toxic Snake (Mutated)” and gained 700 experience points.]

[100% Drop Rate has triggered…]

“I wonder if my talent activates when the skeletons get the kill,” Leon mumbled. “I’ll have to test that later.”

For now, he focused on the loot.

[Mutated Toxic Snake Essence: Consuming will increase Constitution by 5 and Agility by 3.]

[Poison Fangs x2 (Uncommon Material)]

[Toxic Snake Scales (Rare): +200 Constitution.]

Leon consumed the essence without hesitation, feeling a familiar warmth spread through his body as his stats increased.

Then he reached for his equipment, removing the [Forest Ape Scales +2] from around his neck and equipping the new scales instead.

The boost was immediate.

“These are better,” Leon said, then handed the old item to Emilia. “Here. I know it’s not great, but with your [Title] passive, it should still be decent.”

Emilia accepted it and nodded. “Thanks.”

With that settled, the two of them continued deeper into the forest, the remaining skeletons trailing behind them like silent shadows.

At this point, the [Poison Forest] no longer felt threatening.

The poison in the air was manageable, the monsters predictable. Emilia and Leon moved efficiently, cutting through anything that dared approach them.

Toxic snakes, goblins drenched in poison, boars with venomous tusks, none of them stood a chance.

As the battles piled up, Emilia finally reached level 14. Leon wasn’t far behind, his experience bar creeping steadily toward the next threshold.

And then, after one final fight…

[+75 Constitution, +33 Agility, +21 Strength.]

Leon paused for a moment, checking his status window.

It was official. Every single one of his base attributes had surpassed 1,000.

[Constitution: 1,014 (+1,175 + 657)]1

[Strength: 1,626 (+850 + 495)]

[Agility: 1,072 (+690 + 897)]

[Spirit: 1,174 (+600 + 532)]

It didn’t unlock anything special. No hidden notification, no sudden evolution.

Still, the significance of it wasn’t lost on him.

Even without equipment. Even without sub-talents.

He could still fight. That alone was reassuring.

As for the materials, Leon continued to store them away.

[Goblin Dart x3 (Common)]

[Poison Tusks x2 (Uncommon)]

[Poison Fangs x15 (Uncommon Material)]

They would be useful soon. In the next city, he would finally be able to meet a proper [Blacksmith].

Unlike Merek, though, earning that man’s favor wouldn’t be as simple as handing over materials.

Leon knew it would take effort.

And then, just as he was nearing another level-up—

“HOLY SHIT, BE CAREFUL! Is that thing this zone’s boss?!”

“No, I have [Appraisal]! It doesn’t have the title!”

“Damn it—!”

Shouts echoed through the forest ahead.

Leon and Emilia exchanged a glance before moving toward the noise. Given how deep they were in the zone, there was only one possibility.

The boss most players fought before exiting the [Poison Forest].

As Leon stepped into a small clearing, he couldn’t help but grin.

“Knew it.”

Around a dozen players were locked in battle with a massive enemy. Their long ears immediately gave them away. Elves.

Emilia’s expression didn’t change in the slightest as she took them in. At this point, she understood better than anyone that sharing a race meant nothing in [Eternal Ascension].

If anything, the human standing beside her was the closest person she had. That thought still felt strange.

Before them stood a massive snake, nearly three meters tall. Green cracks spread across its entire body, venom pulsing beneath its scales.

Its body was riddled with wounds, proof of a long and grueling fight.

[Snake of Toxin (Boss)]

[Level: 15]

[Talent: Poison Resistance (D-Level)]

[Combat Power: 10,000]

[Details: A snake that has come into direct contact with the “Core of Poison”, modifying its bloodline.]

Leon wasn’t the type to interfere in ongoing fights. If something didn’t concern him directly, he usually stayed out of it.

But that talent… Poison Resistance. If he could get it, it would be invaluable in the future.

As if to reinforce his decision, a familiar sound rang out.

Ding!

[You have been afflicted with “Poison”]

Just being near the boss was enough. Its very presence was toxic.

Leon didn’t hesitate.

“We attack,” he said simply.

And with that, he stepped forward.
