Chapter 473: Engaging With the Soul Soldier

  • Next Chapter

Suddenly, there was an alert all across the Requiem Stronghold as the people operating it sent an announcement, their voices echoing through the streets.

[To all the people in the Requiem Stronghold, do not exit, instead, find a place to hide, there are several bunkers available for such cases.]

And the reason why people shouldn’t leave was simple, the danger outside far greater than anything within.

[An incredible amount of rifts have opened all around the Requiem Stronghold, going outside is deadly!]

There were hundreds of thousands of players and natives in the Requiem Stronghold, with many having lived many years inside and considering this their home, their lives built around the stronghold.

And after all these events, many truly wondered if the Level 6 Stronghold status was really worth it, the price far higher than they had anticipated.

But they couldn’t change what happened, so instead, they simply followed the directives, their footsteps echoing through the streets as they sought shelter.

’I guess that’s where the Final Wave is,’ Leon sighed, ’I can’t focus on that though, I have to take care of the Soul Soldier.’

Many rifts with thousands of monsters rushing toward the stronghold from the outside, and the strongest monsters across all Higher Domains on the inside, the situation truly seemed desperate.

In fact, the Requiem Guild members who had run away hadn’t done so to hide; instead, they were tasked with defending the stronghold from the outside, their mission far from over.

After a few seconds, Granite and Mortis also left, leaving Cavin, Empress and Yanzi, the three strongest remaining on the battlefield.

The healer girl raised her golden staff and used her power to heal Cavin, restoring his arm completely, then she also left to support the rest of her companions, her job done.

SWASH!

The Soul Soldier launched its sword at her as she was leaving, but Cavin positioned himself right in front of it, tanking the attack head on as his chest was covered in dark aura, absorbing the blow.

Then he grabbed the sword and shattered it with his bare hands, the pieces clattering to the ground.

"Not this time," Cavin roared.

He really wished he could smash the Soul Soldier’s head on the ground, but alas, he knew he couldn’t.

Trying to get close to that thing was akin to death, as it could directly strike his soul to instantly kill him.

Unlike it, almost no one in the Higher Domains had the ability to defend their soul yet.

This was why Cavin, Empress and the Requiem Guild members expected this to be an easy victory.

And yet their opponent just HAD to be impossible to kill that way.

The Soul Soldier simply laughed at the display again as got ready to fight with its fists, its confidence unshaken.

But Cavin had other plans.

"Well, I have to help the others too, so do whatever you want," Cavin shrugged, his voice casual.

He dodged an attack from the Soul Soldier and pushed it forward, before Empress unfurled two massive silver wings and used them to carry herself and Cavin out, the wings beating powerfully as they ascended.

The Soul Soldier charged a massive beam from the mouth in its chest and launched it at them, but Empress managed to swiftly avoid it.

This left the Soul Soldier alone in the Requiem Plaza as it looked around, its eyes scanning for a new target.

It seemed satisfied with the destruction around it, but it could sense many more souls, as the Requiem Stronghold was massive.

The Soul Soldier slowly focused its power and summoned another Soul Sword, then with a heavy motion, it turned its head toward Leon, its gaze locking onto him.

It could sense the souls of all those around it, meaning that the closest one was him, a prime target for its power.

And yet, Leon didn’t seem particularly threatened by it, he kept running forward, his expression calm and determined.

"W-What do you think will happen?" Emilia asked as she sat down, her face etched with worry, "If something happens to Leon..."

"He was weaker than the Vessel of War back in the Imperial Kingdom, and yet he managed to defeat it," Violet spoke, her voice filled with confidence, "Which means he has an ace up his sleeve."

And indeed, Leon stopped when he was around 50 meters away from the Soul Soldier and placed another Abyss Rift there, the wormhole forming in the air behind him.

Then he got ready to engage, his sword and staff glowing with power.

"I’ve faced worse things than you in the Eternal Battlefield," Leon grinned as he pointed his sword forward, "I need your sub-talent, and I’m going to get it."

The Soul Soldier tilted its head, as if amused by his words, then it lunged forward with incredible speed, its blade aimed directly at Leon’s chest.

Leon barely managed to dodge, the sword passing so close he could feel the wind of its passage, and he countered with a swing of his own blade, aiming for the creature’s exposed joints.

But the Soul Soldier was faster, its shield coming up to block the attack, and it responded with a kick that sent Leon sliding backward across the ground.

"Damn...!" Leon spat some blood.

The stat difference was extremely high, so even this one kick was enough to injure him.

He was thankful for the Void King’s Essence, because without it, he would have surely died instantly.

And more than anything, Leon could be seen smiling.

Because unfortunately for the Soul Soldier, the exact instant Leon had swung its sword was the moment it should have killed him.

After all...

CELESTIAL’S MIGHT!

Leon’s eyes turned silvery white as he released the aura from his body, which the Soul Soldier directly and made both it and its soul shudder.

Instantly, its attributes dropped by 30%, and even the glow of its soul seemed to be weaker than before.

The Soul Soldier had stopped laughing, and now only a cold expression could be seen behind its vizor.
