Chapter 472: Soul Soldier VS Requiem Guild [2], Final Wave
Cavin focused his entire aura into his arm, the silver shards glowing with energy as he prepared for the final strike.
His muscles bulged, his veins popped, and his eyes glowed with a fierce light as he gathered every ounce of his strength.
He rushed forward, dodging the Soul Soldier’s attack aimed at his soul by a hair’s breadth, the blade passing so close he could feel the wind of its passage, and struck directly at the Soul Soldier’s soul in its chest.
BAM!
The attack connected directly, and everyone’s eyes widened as they saw it, some of them even grinning as they thought it would be over, that the battle was finally won.
CRACK!
In fact, the silver heart in the middle of the Soul Soldier’s chest cracked, indicating that its soul was damaged, the fissure spreading across its surface like a spiderweb.
"Take this!" Cavin laughed as he gazed directly into the Soul Soldier’s eyes beyond its vizor, "Not so tough now, are you?"
"Shouldn’t we move?!" Violet asked, her voice urgent, "You want the items from this monster right? They’re about to kill it!"
But Leon simply lookd at the scene calmly, and shook his head.
"No," he replied, This is not over."
And indeed, even though any monster, even one with 50 million combat power, would succumb to such a direct attack to their soul, this time it was different.
And the only reason was the Soul Soldier’s talent: Soul Protection.
As a response, the Soul Soldier simply laughed again, not just it, but also the mouth in its chest, the sound echoing through the plaza like a death knell.
And Cavin realized too late what was happening as the Soul Soldier’s soul suddenly stopped cracking and regenerated to perfect condition, the fissure sealing itself as if it had never been there.
"Huh?" Cavin’s eyes widened in shock.
SWASH!
The mouth in the Soul Soldier’s chest closed, amputating Cavin’s arm, and forced him back as it kicked him away, making him crash against the ground with a heavy thud.
"Are you okay?" Empress’ eyes widened, her composure cracking slightly, "It didn’t work?!"
"No..." Cavin spat some blood as he got up, stumbling from the impact, "It worked but... its soul was too strong, far stronger than anything we anticipated."
"Then..." Empress trailed off, her voice filled with disbelief.
"...We can’t win right now," Cavin spoke, his voice heavy with resignation, "Abandon the Requiem Stronghold."
Of course, the fact they were backing away didn’t mean they would give up, they had spent far too much time planning this for this to be the end, their ambitions far greater than a single stronghold.
"We’ll have to talk to him first," Cavin continued as he stared at the Soul Soldier, his eyes narrowing, "Perhaps he’ll give us something strong enough to defeat that thing, because otherwise, I don’t see any path to victory."
"And the stronghold...?" Granite spoke, his voice filled with concern.
Cavin looked at the members of his guild with a confused expression, they all seemed rather sad, their faces etched with disappointment.
"We all expected an outcome where the Requiem Stronghold gets destroyed, I don’t know why you’re surprised."
"Well..." Mortis scratched the back of his head, his voice hesitant, "I guess we thought it could still work after all since we managed to dominate this Monster Tide until now."
"We’ll create an even stronger stronghold in the Eternal Battlefield or Eternal Domain," Cavin reassured them, his voice firm, "So for now, it doesn’t seem optimal to remain there and risk everything."
As soon as he finished his sentence, the Soul Soldier stopped laughing and rushed forward, swinging its blade at him with the intent to harm his soul.
Empress quickly positioned herself forward though, deflecting the sword with her spear and releasing several spikes from the ground to force the Soul Soldier to back away, the crystals erupting from the earth in a deadly barrage.
In these few seconds, most of the Requiem Guild members had already run away from the scene, their forms disappearing into the distance.
This left only Cavin, Empress, Yanzi, Granite and Mortis on the scene, as they seemed to be the strongest of the guild, the ones who could still put up a fight.
"Last chance to decide," Emilia mumbled as she gazed at the Soul Soldier and Requiem Guild members from afar, her voice filled with fear, "What do we do? We can’t kill it!"
"Of course we can," Leon grinned, his eyes gleaming with confidence.
Leon closed his eyes and focused on one of his new skills, the energy flowing through him.
Abyss Teleportation!
He placed a rift at the top of the building, which resembled a small wormhole in the space, its edges crackling with dark energy.
"Do you see that?" Leon pointed at the wormhole, and the girls seemed confused, making him understand only he could see them.
This also meant that any opponent he fought would not expect for him to teleport out of nowhere, giving him a tactical advantage in battle.
[Abyss Teleportation (Ancient Lv.1): Set up to 3 Abyss Rifts in the battlefield and allow yourself to use them whenever you want to teleport.]
That was one of the three Abyss Rifts set, meaning he could place another two if he wanted, giving him multiple options for movement and escape.
Once that was done, Leon jumped from the building but not before talking to the girls one last time, his voice steady and calm.
"I’ll engage with it, if situation gets too bad, run, but if I ever wave at you, it means you fight too."
Fwoosh!
Leon landed on the scorched and destroyed ground of the Requiem Plaza.
He avoided all the crumbled buildings as he rushed forward, his eyes fixed on the Soul Soldier.
But at that moment, a notification appeared that changed everything.
Ding!
[The "Final Wave" of the Monster Tide has now arrived.]
[In comparison to all other waves though, this one will not stop until an hour has passed.]
[Survive until then, and all rifts will close.]
’Emilia was right it seems,’ Leon thought, ’Oh well.’
