Chapter 129: Weakening the Guardian of Spirits, Why is It Coming Towards Me?

Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Weakening the Guardian of Spirits, Why is It Coming Towards Me?

Because of the sheer strength of the [Guardian of Spirits], Leon knew for a fact that his title’s passive would activate.

And indeed, the instant his sword connected with the guardian’s crossed blades and the impact rang through the plains, he felt it awaken within him without even needing to check the panel.

Celestial’s Might!

Leon’s eyes turned silvery-white as a suffocating pressure erupted outward from his body in all directions.

For the first time since the fight began, the [Guardian of Spirits] visibly trembled as his footing faltered and he took an involuntary step back, confusion flashing across his blue face as he tried to understand what had just happened to him.

[Guardian of Spirits (Dungeon Boss)]

[Combat Power: 315,000]

Even after losing thirty percent of his attributes due to [Celestial’s Might], the guardian still possessed an enormous amount of power.

At least, far beyond what most beings in the [Lower Domain] could ever hope to contend with.

Yet the sudden drop was undeniable and the difference was so sharp that even he, who had stood here for ages guarding the [Spirit Monument], could feel it immediately.

“You…” the guardian muttered slowly, staring at Leon as though seeing him properly for the first time. “You did something.”

The sensation was foreign and unsettling, as though a portion of his very essence had been forcefully stripped away without warning.

And the pressure radiating from Leon at that moment felt heavier than almost anything he had encountered before in his existence.

For a fleeting instant, a thought crossed his mind that he quickly tried to reject.

Was this presence… stronger than that of the [God of Spirits]?

The guardian shook his head forcefully, dismissing the idea as absurd.

“No,” he said to himself with conviction. “The [God of Spirits] is the most powerful of all.”

Reaffirming his loyalty seemed to steady him slightly, and he refocused on Leon with aura flaring around his remaining arms as he stepped forward.

Because even weakened, he still believed that eliminating this human would not be difficult in the end.

Fwoosh!

Vision Enhancement!

Leon activated the ability instantly, sharpening his perception until every minor movement of the guardian became clearer and more defined.

Powerful Fireball! Ice Spikes! Storm of Lightning! Blood Beam!

All four spells were unleashed almost simultaneously, and this time, unlike before, the guardian could no longer move as effortlessly as he had at the start of the fight.

“Damn it…” he hissed under his breath.

He still avoided the spells, but doing so required his full focus and complete commitment.

And for a fraction of a second his attention narrowed entirely on surviving the barrage rather than controlling the flow of battle.

That fraction of a second was all Leon needed.

Abyssal Slash!

SLASH!

Leon vanished into shadow and reappeared behind the guardian in a burst of darkness, his blade cutting forward with abyssal energy trailing behind it like a black crescent.

CLANG!

The guardian reacted just in time, crossing his four swords behind him to block the strike before spinning around and attempting to kick Leon away with brutal force.

“Your tricks aren’t going to work,” the guardian roared, regaining some of his confidence as he looked upward briefly toward the suspended [Spirit Cage]. “Your companion is not dying either, perhaps I should—”

SLASH!

Leon did not allow him to finish.

He closed the distance again instantly, swinging his blade in a relentless follow-up that forced the guardian to focus entirely on defending himself rather than thinking about Emilia.

Because Leon understood clearly that as long as the guardian’s attention remained fixed on him, Emilia’s suffering would not escalate beyond what she was already enduring.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The exchange accelerated into a blur of steel as Leon’s single sword met the guardian’s four in rapid succession, sparks of spiritual energy scattering with every collision.

“Even with four arms…” the guardian muttered in disbelief while parrying another strike. “You can keep up with all of them?!”

The [Guardian of Spirits] was not merely powerful in terms of raw attributes.

He was a master swordsman whose skill alone could rival high-ranking players.

And each of his arms moved with independent precision that could overwhelm ordinary opponents easily.

And yet the human before him was matching all four simultaneously.

[Celestial’s Might] reduced attributes, not experience, and what the guardian was facing at that moment was not merely strength but refined combat instinct sharpened through countless life-and-death battles.

At the same time, Leon continued casting spells in between swings, forcing the guardian to either block or dodge constantly, preventing him from regaining control of the battlefield.

“You think you are the only one who can overwhelm others?!” the guardian roared after nearly thirty seconds of intense exchange.

He leaped backward suddenly, putting distance between them as the scepter that hovered near him began spinning at high speed and glowing brighter with each rotation.

SPIRIT WAVE!

Dozens upon dozens of spirits materialized around Leon instantly.

They took on various forms ranging from snarling hounds to armored humanoid warriors and grotesque hybrid creatures.

All of them encircling him with bared fangs and raised weapons as their hollow eyes locked onto him.

“You will not last long,” the guardian told them coldly before snapping his fingers. “Be my fuel instead.”

In a flash, every spirit dissolved into streams of energy that were absorbed into the spinning scepter, which began radiating an overwhelming aura that made even Leon tense instinctively.

“With this…” the guardian murmured, voice low and filled with anticipation. “My ultimate attack shall erase you.”

Leon braced himself as a massive sphere of condensed spiritual energy formed at the tip of the scepter, growing larger and denser with every passing second until the air around it warped violently under its pressure.

And when it reached its apotheosis—1

SPIRIT BALL!

The guardian swung the scepter forward, launching the enormous sphere toward Leon at terrifying speed.

Darkness Barrier!

Leon summoned his barrier instantly while rushing forward rather than retreating.

A glance at Emilia told him everything he needed to know: her face had grown pale, her breathing shallow, and he could sense that she likely had less than a minute left before the [Spirit Cage] would kill her outright.

Dodging would waste time. Trying to outrun it would be pointless.

And indeed, as Leon shifted directions mid-run, the [Spirit Ball] adjusted its trajectory smoothly and followed him relentlessly.

“Nobody survives the [Spirit Ball],” the guardian laughed, confidence surging once more. “Die knowing you were powerless.”

Abyssal Slash!

Leon vanished into shadow again, the sphere tracking him even through the darkness as he moved unpredictably across the battlefield.

Then—

Slash!

He erupted from the ground behind the guardian and attacked once more, forcing the guardian to turn and block instinctively.

Leon did not retreat afterward.

Instead, he stood his ground deliberately behind the guardian.

“Wait… why is it coming toward me—”

BOOOOOOOOM!

The [Spirit Ball] collided directly with the guardian before reaching Leon, detonating in an explosion so violent that the plains shook and a shockwave blasted outward in every direction.

Leon was thrown backward despite his positioning, his [Darkness Barrier] cracking and then shattering under the immense force.

Blood rose to his throat and he coughed upon impact with the ground, but he had avoided the core of the blast.

When the smoke began to clear, he forced himself up and looked forward.

The guardian was kneeling.

Half of his body had been obliterated, three of his four arms completely gone, and the once-glowing scepter flickered erratically in the air beside him.

“Y-You… are… smarter… than I thought…” the guardian rasped, struggling to remain upright. “I-I rarely use that attack… I did not expect someone to—”

Even in that broken state, he forced himself to stand again.

“F-For the [God of Spirits]…” he roared hoarsely. “You have no idea how strong the gods truly are…”

SLASH!

Leon did not care to hear the rest.

He closed the distance instantly, cutting off the guardian’s final arm and then striking the damaged scepter.

Crack!

The item shattered completely, and with it, the [Spirit Cage] dissolved into particles of light.

Emilia fell to the ground, breathing heavily but alive.

She did not hesitate even for a second.

Strength Buff!

Golden light enveloped Leon again as he raised his sword high.

SLASH!

The blade descended cleanly, severing the guardian’s head and ending his existence at last after who knew how many years spent guarding this place.
