Chapter 128: Defeating the Spirit Dragon, The Spirit Cage

Chapter 128: Chapter 128: Defeating the Spirit Dragon, The Spirit Cage

[Spirit Dragon (Spirit)]

[Level: 50]

[Exclusive Talent: Strong Spirit (A-Level)]

[Combat Power: 300,000]

[Details: A spirit dragon summoned by the “Guardian of Spirits”.]

Leon observed the [Spirit Dragon] in silence while it let out a thunderous roar that shook the plains around them.

Its translucent body glowing faintly as streams of spiritual energy flowed beneath its scales.

The pressure it released was immense, enough to make the ground tremble.

Yet despite the overwhelming presence it carried, Leon’s expression did not change in the slightest.

It was only a summon, meaning it wouldn’t actually give any items.

Still, underestimating it would be foolish.

Three hundred thousand combat power was not a joke.

If such a creature were unleashed upon [Myriad Race City] without restriction, it could wipe the entire place out on its own.

Because even the strongest individuals in the [Lower Domain] would struggle to stand against something of this magnitude.

And yet… Leon felt no fear.

Emilia’s [Strength Buff] was still active, its golden aura flowing through his body and enhancing him.

And when that was combined with his already absurd strength stat, the result was something that even beings far above his level would struggle to comprehend.

Fwoosh!

With a single step forward that cracked the ground beneath his boots, Leon vanished from his previous position and shot toward the [Spirit Dragon], closing the enormous distance between them in a fraction of a second.

ROOOAR!

The dragon reacted instantly, raising one of its enormous claws and swinging it downward.

Its spiritual aura flaring as it attempted to crush the tiny human rushing toward it.

SLASH!

Leon’s [Power Sword] flashed once.

And with almost no effort, the dragon’s claw separated from its body mid-swing.

The creature’s roar shifted from dominance to confusion in less than a heartbeat.

“…?”

It did not understand. And it did not get the chance to.

Leon stepped forward again, his blade tracing a second arc through the air with almost casual precision.

The dragon’s head fell. Its massive body flickered violently before dispersing into scattered particles of light.

“Heh.”

Ding!

[You have killed “Spirit Dragon (Summon)” and gained 120,000 experience points.]

Ding!

[Congratulations, you have leveled up to Level 47!]

[Due to “Heaven’s Blessing,” you have gained 250 points in all attributes and 250 free points to distribute.]

Emilia stared at the empty space where the dragon had stood only moments earlier, her eyes with admiration.

“Damn… that sword really made you much stronger,” she said honestly.

Leon simply nodded while briefly reviewing the numbers in his mind.

As said before, his strength attribute was already at around 50,000 points.

Add that to Emilia’s buff that doubled it, it became 100,000 points.

And now… consider the [Blood Heart Blessing] of the [Power Sword], which once again doubled the power of Leon’s physical attacks.

This meant that Leon had hit the [Spirit Dragon] with 200,000 points of strength, akin to 400,000 combat power.

It was only natural that the [Spirit Dragon] could not withstand it.

Leon’s physical attack had become far too strong.

He’d be surprised if the [Guardian of Spirits] himself could tank more than two hits from his attacks.

Since the summon left behind nothing of value, Leon did not waste time lingering in place.

And after ensuring Emilia was fine, the two of them continued moving forward across the plains of the [Farlands].

Strangely enough, there were almost no enemies waiting for them.

Aside from the occasional spirit sent from a distance, the land remained mostly empty.

Which only reinforced the idea that the [Guardian of Spirits] was absolutely convinced that no one could ever bypass his initial defenses, making additional obstacles unnecessary in his eyes.

That confidence, however, turned out to be a mistake.

After roughly ten minutes of steady running, a structure finally came into view in the distance: the [Spirit Monument].

It was tall and carved from a pale material that shimmered faintly with spiritual energy.

Its surface engraved with ancient patterns that pulsed slowly as though alive.

“This is very anticlimactic, I won’t deny it,” Emilia commented while observing it from afar, her tone almost disappointed. “I expected some heaven-defying stuff to happen—”

She never finished that sentence because…

Spirit Cage!

A surge of aura erupted violently from beneath her feet without warning.

And before Leon could react, transparent walls of energy shot upward and enclosed her completely, forming a perfect cube that lifted slightly off the ground.

Leon was forced backward by the sudden burst of force, his boots sliding across the grass as his eyes widened in shock.

“What the—”

Inside the cage, Emilia immediately began striking the walls with her weapon, but each blow landed without leaving even the faintest scratch.

Leon stepped forward and slashed at it with his sword, but nothing happened.

“Buff me,” Leon said quickly, realizing it had to be a trap set by the guardian. “It must be his doing.”

Emilia nodded and raised her scepter despite the tight space.

Strength Buff—

“ARGH!”

Before the buff could complete, the cage flared brightly and released a violent jolt of electricity that coursed through her body, forcing her to gasp in pain as the casting was interrupted.

She tried again.

Strength Buff—

The same result. The cage pulsed once more, shocking her and preventing any skill activation.

Her abilities were sealed.

“I’m surprised you reached here,” a familiar voice echoed as the [Guardian of Spirits] materialized above the monument, hovering calmly with his scepter spinning beside him. “Only two others ever did… and I killed them.”

Leon’s jaw tightened.

’We got too carefree,’ he admitted internally, anger directed at himself rather than the enemy. ’I said I wouldn’t underestimate anyone… but I relaxed.’

If that [Spirit Cage] had targeted him instead, would he have been fast enough to avoid it?

He did not know. But that uncertainty no longer mattered.

He lifted his gaze toward the guardian, eyes cold.

“Capturing her instead of me is going to be your worst mistake.”

The guardian laughed softly, amused rather than threatened, “Sure.”

BAM! BAM! BAM!

The cage rose higher into the air and began sending repeated jolts of spiritual energy through Emilia’s body, each one forcing a pained gasp from her lips.

“Most die almost instantly from these,” the guardian commented casually. “Your companion is quite… durable.”

Leon did not waste another second.

BLOOD BEAM!

A crimson ray erupted from the tip of his [Void Staff], slicing through the air toward the guardian with lethal intent.

Fwoosh!

The guardian dodged effortlessly, shifting aside as though avoiding a lazy swing.

“I know for a fact you cannot beat me,” he said with a grin. “So I will enjoy tormenting you both. I am so very bored~.”

The guardian had likely been stationed here for an unimaginably long time, waiting for the mysterious [Ascension].

With almost no visitors to occupy him, boredom had turned into cruelty.

“Let’s play a game, then,” the guardian grinned, “If you defeat me, the cage will disappear, which means that to save this puny elf… you just have to—”

Ice Spikes! Powerful Fireball! Storm of Lightning!

Leon launched spell after spell without hesitation, refusing to engage in pointless conversation while Emilia continued suffering inside the cage.

The longer this continued, the higher the risk of her dying.

Wasting a [Resurrection Stone] was NOT something he planned to do anytime soon, especially because of how rare they were.

Yet none of it mattered.

The guardian dodged the ice spikes as they erupted from the ground, sliced through the fireball with one of his blades, and weaved between the lightning strikes as though dancing.

“I see you understand the rules,” he said with amusement. “Let us enjoy ourselves.”

Leon’s grip tightened around his sword.

’Magic won’t work,’ he concluded quickly. ’I have to fight him physically.’

He glanced at the cage for a fraction of a second and saw Emilia struggling to suppress her pain, forcing herself to remain composed so he would not lose focus.

“I’ll play,” Leon said calmly, aura beginning to leak from his eyes as killing intent sharpened around him.

“GOOD!” the guardian laughed, gripping his four swords while spinning the scepter faster. “Don’t die too quickly.”

Leon moved. He closed the distance in an instant and swung his blade toward the guardian’s torso with full force.

Clang!

All four of the guardian’s arms moved simultaneously, blocking the strike with practiced coordination.

“I am far stronger than you,” the guardian said confidently. “And I have four arms. What did you expect would happen?”

Leon did not respond immediately. Instead, a slow smile spread across his face.

“I attacked you,” he said simply.

“And it did nothing—”

The guardian stopped mid-sentence. Because suddenly… he felt something.

A pressure far greater than before gathering.

And when he lifted his gaze toward Leon, his expression changed for the first time.

CELESTIAL’S MIGHT!
