Chapter 127: Entering the Farlands, The Guardian of Spirits is Here
Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Entering the Farlands, The Guardian of Spirits is Here
Ding!
[You have entered the “Farlands”]
A strange pulling force wrapped around Leon and Emilia the moment they stepped through the [Farlands Gate].
They hit the ground and found themselves in an entirely new environment.
When Leon straightened his back and lifted his head, he immediately tightened his grip on both his [Power Sword] and his [Void Staff], his eyes scanning every corner of the land they had just arrived in.
This was not just another dungeon hidden somewhere in the [Lower Domain], and it was certainly not a place where mistakes would be forgiven easily, because this was the hardest dungeon in the entirety of the [Lower Domain].
If anything could truly be described as being on another level entirely, it was this place.
However, what they saw at first glance did not match the weight of that reputation.
They were standing in what appeared to be vast plains stretching endlessly in all directions, above them hung a dim and colorless sky.
Emilia slowly turned her head from side to side, her brows furrowing in confusion as she took in the scenery.
“I really expected something more terrifying to be honest,” she admitted while staring into the distance, “especially for something called the [Farlands].”
Leon nodded faintly, still scanning their surroundings carefully, because he knew better than to trust first impressions in places like this.
“I agree—”
Leon was about to complete his sentence, but he didn’t have time to do that.
Because suddenly, the sky above them suddenly rippled, and a surge of aura erupted around them in violent waves.
The peaceful silence shattered instantly, replaced by an intense pressure.
“Newcomers.”
A strange voice echoed from everywhere at once, reverberating through the plains and vibrating in their bones.
“Oh well,” the voice continued casually, as though commenting on something trivial, “just die.”
Fwoosh!
In the blink of an eye, dozens upon dozens of translucent swords formed in the air around Leon and Emilia, each one made entirely of condensed aura and shimmering faintly against the dull sky.
They hovered for less than a heartbeat before all of them lunged forward simultaneously, slicing through the air with terrifying precision.
Leon’s mind reacted instantly.
Appraisal!
[There is nothing to view.]
His eyes narrowed slightly as he processed the system’s response.
’I guess the swords are just attacks themselves,’ he concluded internally.
Slash!
Leon moved.
His [Power Sword] flashed as he intercepted the first wave of incoming blades, cutting through one after another with clean and decisive strikes.
Even the slightest miscalculation would allow one of them to slip through.
Each collision sent sparks of aura scattering into the air, and the impact of every strike vibrated up his arm.
Emilia did not stand idle either.
She summoned her spectral flames and hurled them toward the incoming swords, hoping to burn through them before they reached Leon.
But to her frustration the flames passed through some of them while others resisted entirely, the aura blades simply reforming their structure and continuing their assault without slowing down.
’I’m useless,’ she thought bitterly as she watched Leon fend off attack after attack almost alone, her teeth clenching in anger at herself. ’Damn it…’
She immediately cast her supportive skills instead.
Strength Buff! Speed Buff!
A golden glow wrapped around Leon, enhancing his already overwhelming physical capabilities and sharpening his reflexes even further.
But despite the boosts he received, the swords did not weaken or slow; if anything, their movements felt deliberate, almost testing him.
Seconds turned into nearly a full minute of relentless defense.
Slash after slash rang out across the plains as Leon rotated his body fluidly, parrying and cutting down every blade that approached not only himself but Emilia as well.
And then—
SLASH!
One blade slipped through.
It curved unnaturally mid-air, bypassing Leon’s sword by mere inches before slicing toward Emilia’s face.
“Argh…”
The sword grazed her cheek before Leon could redirect it, leaving behind a thin red line as it retracted and repositioned itself to strike again.
Leon’s expression darkened instantly.
The injury was minor, almost laughably small compared to what it could have been.
Because anyone else struck directly by that blade would likely have been cleaved in half without resistance, but the fact remained that it had pierced her defenses.
’They’re sharp enough to harm Emilia,’ he realized grimly.
The assault continued for several more minute.
The ground around them became littered with fading fragments of shattered aura.
“Wow…” Emilia whispered at one point, genuinely astonished as she watched Leon maintain such unwavering focus, because aside from that single slip, not one sword had touched her again.
Then, as suddenly as it had begun, the barrage stopped.
The remaining swords froze mid-air before dispersing into particles of light.
“Only five people managed to survive the [Spirit Sword]’s assault,” the same voice echoed again, “I’m impressed.”
A flash of pale light ignited above them. Leon and Emilia both lifted their heads.
What they saw made even Leon’s composed expression falter slightly.
A two-meter-tall figure hovered in the air, its skin a deep shade of blue and its long robe flowing despite the absence of wind.
It possessed four arms, each holding a different sword, and circling around it constantly was a pale scepter that emitted a steady and oppressive glow.
Appraisal!
—
[Guardian of Spirits (Dungeon Boss)]
[Level: 50]
[Exclusive Talent: Spirit Wielder (S-Level)]
[Talent: Supreme Spirit Enhancement (S-Level)]
[Combat Power: 450,000]
[Details: The “Guardian of Spirits” specifically ordered by the “God of Spirits” to guard the “Farlands” until the “Ascension” happens.]
—
Leon stared at the numbers for a moment, his lips parting slightly.
“This…” he muttered under his breath, “…doesn’t seem doable.”
Four hundred and fifty thousand combat power.
Even the strongest players scattered across every [Lower Domain] combined would struggle against something at that level.
For comparison, he quickly glanced at his own.
[Combat Power: 90,904 (+187,770)]
The boost his [Supreme Strength Enhancement] sub-talent gave him was massive, but even then he was nowhere near matching that entity.
“Holy shit,” Emilia suddenly burst out, though not in fear but in pure exasperation, “just how many goddamn gods are there?!”
Leon blinked before letting out a quiet sigh.
“So there’s the [God of Magic], the [Goddess of Nature], the [God of Spirits], the [God of Ascension] and how many more?!”
“A lot more,” Leon admitted calmly, though his eyes never left the guardian. “Each one stronger than the last, but thankfully they cannot interfere directly in the [Lower Domain], which is why they send their followers instead.”
The [Heavenly One] didn’t allow ANY god to intefere with matters in the [Lower Domain].
Any god who tried would likely be annihilated in an instant, that was the sheer power of the [Heavenly One], as every god feared and respected them.
That is why they got people like the [God of Magic’s Disciple], things like [Trace of God of Magic] or even organizations like the [Church of Light] to help them out.
The [Higher Domain] had less restrictions, meaning the gods could actually interact with it, but not cause any trouble.
And in the [Eternal Domain], there was absolutely no restriction.
Still, the existence of something like this guardian raised another question entirely.
’What exactly is it guarding, and more than anything, what’s the [Ascension]?’ Leon wondered.
Based on the wording, it implied an upcoming event, and yet in his past life he had never once heard of such a thing.
“Well,” the guardian said casually, its scepter glowing brighter, “if you can survive that, how about something else.”
BOOM!
An immense surge of aura exploded outward, forcing Leon and Emilia to brace themselves as the sky above them distorted violently, a massive silhouette forming within the swirling energy.
“Come forth, [Spirit Dragon],” the guardian commanded before beginning to fade away. “I will return to the [Spirit Monument]. Make sure to kill them.”
In the sky, a colossal transparent dragon materialized, its wings stretching wide as it let out a thunderous roar that shook the plains beneath them.
“Damn…” Leon exhaled slowly, watching the guardian vanish entirely and leave them alone with the summoned beast. “I guess it makes sense…”
If this dungeon was guarded by the will of the [God of Spirits], then a spirit dragon was hardly surprising.
The dragon descended rapidly.
BOOM!
It landed before them, its massive body dwarfing both Leon and Emilia as its glowing eyes locked onto them with clear murderous intent.
“Wow, an actual dragon,” Emilia said despite the danger, her eyes sparkling with a strange mix of awe and excitement. “First time I see one!”
Leon adjusted his grip on his weapons.
“They’re not friendly,” he said calmly while stepping forward, positioning himself between her and the dragon as its wings spread once more and aura gathered in its maw, “Let’s get this over with.”
