One Piece: I Upgraded the Strongest Man in the World
Chapter 108: [2] Super Calamity — Aqua Laguna! Blackbeard’s Frustration!
At that moment, Usopp’s anxious voice rang out.
"Idiot, Chopper! Get over here and help!"
He was struggling to pull on the sail lines, trying to keep the ship on course.
The sudden storm had strengthened the winds dramatically. If they didn’t get the sails under control, not only would they lose their heading, but the ship itself could be overturned.
"We need to tighten the sails even more! Otherwise they’ll tear apart or throw us off course!"
Usopp shouted as he fought desperately against the gale.
Hearing the call, Chopper immediately stopped crying.
Though tears still clung to his face, he quickly pulled himself together.
"O-Okay! I’m coming!"
He took a deep breath.
Then his body rapidly transformed, growing larger in an instant.
As his size increased, so did his strength.
"That’s more like it. Crying won’t solve anything."
"You were crying too!"
"I-I wasn’t crying! I was... moved!"
"Oh..."
...
Meanwhile, in the streets of Water Seven—
Marshall D. Teach stood beside one of the city’s waterways, staring dumbfounded at the rapidly receding sea.
His heartbeat accelerated, and his mind was in complete chaos.
"One meter... three meters... five meters... ten meters..."
He muttered to himself, his voice filled with shock and unease.
The sight before him was unbelievable.
The once-calm ocean was dropping at an astonishing rate, exposing sections of the seabed that had never been seen before.
"W-What... what the hell is happening?"
His voice trembled as he desperately searched for an explanation.
No matter how hard he thought, he couldn’t make sense of such a bizarre phenomenon.
Then his gaze locked onto the horizon.
A gigantic wall of water stretched between sea and sky, rolling toward the city like the end of the world itself.
"What the hell is that?! A wave?! A tsunami?!"
The moment he realized what he was looking at, his scalp went numb.
His entire body began trembling uncontrollably.
He couldn’t even see the end of it.
What kind of absurd tsunami was this?!
He knew there was nowhere to run.
Faced with a disaster large enough to blot out the sky itself, escape seemed impossible.
Fear seeped into every inch of his body like icy water.
For a moment, he nearly lost the ability to think.
At that instant, the entirety of Water Seven seemed to freeze.
The bustling merchants.
The leisurely pedestrians.
The hurried travelers.
Every pair of eyes turned toward the terrifying transformation occurring out at sea.
Disbelief and terror filled their faces.
The lively city fell silent.
Only the sound of waves crashing against the shore remained.
Time itself seemed to stop.
Then someone finally shattered the silence.
"Run! Aqua Laguna is coming!"
The cry exploded through the city like thunder.
Immediately afterward, panic erupted.
People ran in every direction.
Some rushed home to gather whatever belongings they could.
Others fled inland toward higher ground.
Many abandoned everything and simply sprinted toward the upper sections of the city.
The streets descended into complete chaos.
Running figures filled every road.
Screams echoed everywhere.
Fear saturated the air.
"How is this possible? Aqua Laguna isn’t supposed to arrive for a long time!"
An elderly man asked in a trembling voice.
Someone nearby answered,
"That’s not Aqua Laguna! That’s something even worse—a super tsunami!"
The surrounding crowd turned even paler.
As the news spread—
"A super disaster has struck!"
The panic spread through Water Seven like wildfire.
Citizens who were already terrified became even more desperate.
Everyone worried for their lives.
Everyone searched for some way to survive.
Yet before the overwhelming power of nature, all human efforts seemed pitifully insignificant.
"..."
Teach stood amidst the chaos with an incredibly ugly expression.
His face was dark enough to drip with gloom.
His eyes burned with anger and resentment.
Ever since stealing the Dark-Dark Fruit (Yami Yami no Mi) and fleeing the Whitebeard Pirates, nothing had gone right.
It felt as though the entire world was against him.
First—
After he left, his former crewmates somehow started becoming users with Two Devil Fruit Powers one after another.
And Whitebeard himself had become a Three-Devil-Fruit User.
The news had struck Teach like a bolt from the blue.
"This is complete bullshit!"
He roared inwardly.
"If I’d known things would turn out like this, why the hell would I have gone through all that trouble to kill Thatch and steal the Dark-Dark Fruit?!"
A deep sense of regret briefly surfaced.
But it was quickly drowned by even greater anger.
Then came the next disaster.
Because he had inadvertently taken the blame for the Whitebeard Pirates, he had encountered a catastrophe on Jaya.
The Marines had launched a Buster Call.
For three days and three nights, the island endured relentless bombardment.
The attacks were so devastating that nearly the entire island had been flattened.
Some areas had even been blasted more than a meter below sea level.
Teach had fought desperately just to survive.
Time and time again, he had brushed against death.
He had nearly been buried on that island forever.
Now, after finally escaping with his life and barely having a chance to catch his breath—
Another disaster had arrived.
A super tsunami powerful enough to destroy everything in its path.
"Damn it! Damn it all!"
Teach roared hysterically.
His voice was filled with rage and unwillingness.
He refused to spend his life as a nobody.
He refused to accept defeat.
No matter how many hardships stood before him, he would seize the Tremor-Tremor Fruit (Gura Gura no Mi).
He would rise to the very top of the pirate world.
He would become one of the Four Emperors!
"Admiral, if we don’t run now, it’ll be too late."
Laffitte spoke cautiously.
He could tell that Teach’s mental state was becoming increasingly unstable.
Nearby, Doc Q let out a long sigh.
"Yeah... I never expected things to turn out like this.
The Marines just destroyed our ship.
We finally managed to buy a new one here in Water Seven.
And before we could even leave, we ran into weather like this...
Sigh..."
His voice was filled with exhaustion and helplessness.
The mood among the Blackbeard Pirates had never been worse.
