Chapter 2595: The Emei Sect IV
Chapter 2595: The Emei Sect IV
“Sister! Where are you going?” One of the Emei Sect members with a jade bangle asked.
In the Emei Sect, the seniority of a member is dependent on the number of jade bangles that they have on their hands or feet. The jade bangles also serve as a way for the sect members to locate each other when outside of the sect premises. Emei Sect members can only be given a jade bangle when they have been dispatched outside at least once, and it also proves as a testament to the trust that the sect has given them.
“I am sorry, sister. I was just out of it due to some lack of sleep. I was about to get some medicine for my lightheadedness, but it seems that I have dozed off while walking. I have been guarding the entrance with my fellow sister that is experiencing the same symptoms. I was about to get us medicine so that both of us can feel better.” Adrian stated as an excuse.
“Oh dear! If both of you are affected, then that means the others might also be experiencing severe fatigue already. I will have the meal hall concoct a special medicinal porridge for all of the sisters that are standing on guard. For now, take this sweet bread and share it with your fellow sister that is also fatigued.” The Emei Sect Senior stated as she gave Adrian a sweet bread that is dipped in honey.
“Thank you so much, senior sister. Before I get back to my post and share this with my other sister, is there something wrong with this passage here which is why you stopped me?” Adrian asked.
“That passage is old and is not suitable to be used for transport as most of it has already caved in. It led to an old storeroom, but no one should use it now. The elders just told us to let it be in its current state but make sure that no one enters it except for them as they are renovating it.” The Senior Emei Sect member stated.
“If the elders told us that then I should absolutely follow it. Thank you for waking me up from my daze, senior sister. If not for you then I might have been punished by the elders for wandering into a forbidden passage.” Adrian stated as he tried to see more of the Emei Sect senior member’s reaction.
“That is fine, sister. Just make sure to not talk about it anymore to the others. It will be our little secret for now and I will overlook it since you are very tired.” The Emei Sect Senior Member stated.
“Are you sure about giving me all of this, senior sister? You look quite tired as well and this might be your snack that will give you the energy. I am suddenly feeling guilty to be given such marvelous sweets.” Adrian stated but he was actually taking the attention of the Emei Sect Senior member.
A dark wisp suddenly separated from Adrian’s shadow as it entered the forbidden passageway that Adrian was about to enter. He already found it weird that one passageway is forbidden by the elders when they should not know the entire status of the sect as of yet. The only reason is that they may be hiding something, and the answers are all at the end of the forbidden passage in front of him.
“That is fine, sister. I am almost done with my shift while the younger members have at least two more hours. Make sure to visit the mess hall after your shift as sweet breads are not enough. You must return to your station now or else they might see that you are slacking off somewhere. The elders have become very strict as of the moment.” The Emei Sect Senior member stated.
“I will then. Thank you, senior sister.” Adrian replied as he bowed and proceeded to go towards the passage he used before this one.
Adrian could clearly feel that the Emei Sect Senior member was watching him like a hawk as if she was not entirely sure that Adrian did only wander aimlessly. Adrian even looked at the back robe that the Emei Sect Senior member touched and he found some runes on them. It was a simple tracking charm that can detect the location of the one applied to for a duration of one hour.
“Sirius, report back to me once you have seen something important.” Adrian commanded as he started to morph the tracker into a modified version that will help him.
“As you wish, master.” Sirius replied as he ventured deeper into the passage.
Adrian the proceeded to take out a magic paper from his inventory and create a rune on it. The rune he created has properties of transfer, but it is written in a way that it is applied to surfaces. Once the rune has activated, he then proceeded to stick the talisman onto the area of his robes where the runes of tracking are created. The Transfer Talisman stuck to the area that is applied with runes as if it was a sticker.
After five minutes, the talisman finally decided to be unstuck by itself and then proceeded to peel off by itself. The runes of tracking that were present on his clothes are now on the talisman. Adrian then proceeded to fold this talisman into a crane and used some mana on it. The talisman started to flap its wings as it flew back to the location where the real guards were.
Adrian then turned himself back into a spirit as Sirius told him that there was a powerful illusion cast inside of the passageway. Illusions are of no problem to Sirius but disturbing the illusion would also reveal that something was destroyed. It might also alarm the person who cast this illusion which is why Sirius is waiting for his master to arrive.
“Master, this is the illusion.” Sirius stated as the passageway is actually thirty meters deep until one run into the illusion.
The illusion that Sirius is pointing to is none other than an illusion of the cave in a collapsed state. Sirius proved this was an illusion by extending his shadow in order to see if it would pattern itself to the rocks. Just as Sirius reported, the shadow did not pattern itself onto the caved in rocks, but it actually passed through or continued on. The illusion even hid the effects of Sirius’ shadow which meant that they are indeed trying to hide something deep in this place.
“Do you think that the creator of this illusion would notice us if we were to pass through with our bodies?” Adrian asked as he could not detect any sort of formation around the cave. This meant that the illusion before them was created by an expert that can bend nature to create illusions.
“I believe that they would be alerted that someone has passed through the illusion, master. That is the only thing that they will know as they will not get a detailed knowledge that it was us. It should be safe to transfer via the shadows. Let me help you with that, master.” Sirius stated as a large shadow wolf suddenly opened its jaws and ate Adrian in one gulp as he is sent to the shadow realm.
Sirius then turned into a small shadow and passed through the illusion. They thought that the illusion was only like a meter of activation, but it actually took five minutes for Sirius to pass through all of the illusions. It was like a ten-meter tunnel filled with an optical illusion that was created to all that tried to go deeper. It is not just illusions that are present though as there are traps hidden on the walls and floors.
Sirius easily passed through the illusion without triggering anything and easily took out his master from the shadow realm. When they reached the end of the caved in passageway illusion, the two are instead greeted by a gate. The gate is different because there is a formation etched onto it, and it can only be opened if another formation is used on top of it. It should either be done by a formation master or an item that already has the formation laid in it like a sigil.
Adrian checked the sigil if it can be circumvented but there was no other way. Rather, there was no way to go in it the silent way. They could use brute force to destroy the gate and easily enter but that would also create lots of noise that they cannot suppress. The noise will not only attract the attention on the other side of the gate but also those above them.
“Let me just see if I can detect some form of life on the other side.” Adrian muttered as he focused and his form suddenly shifted to his limbo nether demon form.
