Chapter 2579: The Suns Fall I

The Vermillion Bird of the South and the Three-Legged Crow clashed with one another with their elemental bodies pushed to the highest degree. One might think that one would triumph against the other but both of them got hurt equally. Both the Vermillion Bird of the South and the Three-Legged Crow knocked each other back and release a powerful burst of energy that created a shockwave so massive that it leveled the city.

The Vermillion Bird of the South got sent flying towards a mountain to the east while the Three-Legged Crow got sent crashing down to the planes on the west. The sudden explosion of energy between the two also destroyed the barrier that the Shrine Maidens erected on the pagoda. All of the Shrine Maidens got hit by the backlash and had to escape inside of the pagoda.

The army gathered by Kami did not go unscathed though as half of their forces were reduced to nothing because of the powerful shockwave. The shockwave literally hit all of them from the top down and destroyed the heads before going down to the feet. All of those that died from the shockwave were reduced to a bloody mess.

“What the heck!” Vixen exclaimed as she actually burned half of her mana to protect all four of them from the shockwave.

“Is this what they meant by the power of a divine beast?” Tama stated in shock.

“This is what a fight between divinity is when they are not restricted and do not hold back. The only beings that are not restricted in the eastern continent are divine beasts. They are truly the ones that are not bound by rules and laws. Even those two divine entities, Raijin and Fujin, are still somewhat shackled by the rules and laws of the continent.” Chiyou stated.

“The barrier is gone! Let us go while we still have a chance.” Tai stated but Chiyou stopped him as two large energy signatures suddenly clashed once again.

The Vermillion Bird of the South and the Three-Legged Crow once again slammed each other with their bodies but they did not have any sun barriers around them. The two divine beasts could not use their own divine energies as they are only left with little. They used most of it from the clash that they did earlier which actually leveled the city.

“This is good. The Vermillion Bird of the South is weakened. I will make my move but that also means that I cannot join you in the capture of the pagoda. Remember that defeating the Vermillion Bird of the South is just one of our plans. We need to get the blindfolded Shrine Maiden as she is a candidate to become a True Seer.” Chiyou stated as he focused on the Three-Legged Crow.

Chiyou then proceeded to do some hand signs while Tai and Vixen moved towards the pagoda. Tama was the one left to protect Chiyou from any attacks as most of their forces are incapacitated from the shockwave earlier. Even if most of their personnel survived the shockwave, the ones that did survive are treating their injuries. The ones that survive could barely move and had to take cover as the Vermillion Bird of the South and the Three-Legged Crow is still clashing.

“I can take the shot.” Adrian muttered as his voice is projected towards the Vermillion Bird of the South.

“No! Please! This self needs you to do something for me. Send all of those in the pagoda to the Dragon Lake Palace. I can take care of myself, my friend. The organization that is attacking us has another plan in action. They plan to take the head Shrine Maiden as she has the gift of sight. We must never let Kami get a True Seer no matter what.” The Vermillion Bird of the South replied as soon as possible which made Adrian lower his bow, but he really wanted to take the shot.

“Master! There are people heading towards the tower.” Sirius reported as he is concealed in the shadows outside the pagoda.

“Help them first, my friend. This self… begs of you.” The Vermillion Bird of the South stated with a pained voice.

“Understood.” Adrian stated as he believed that the Vermillion Bird of the South has made its decision.

Adrian also knows that having a Seer is not something to be taken lightly as they can see fate. They are beings that can warn the dangers ahead which might be the reason why Kami needs one. From what Adrian knows, Kami should have a Seer unless that specific one has used too much of their ability. Seeing the future does not mean one can just peer into it without repercussion.

“Their own Seer might no longer be alive as a backlash to seeing the future. It seems that their movements being too elusive and detailed has come bit their most important asset. They need a new one that they can treat as a slave, but I will honor my promise. Help me everyone!” Adrian stated as he fused with Kenos and started chanting.

Tai and Vixen arrived at the entrance to the pagoda with some of their organization members that could only follow in a weakened state. Tai and Vixen urged them to follow despite their injuries as there might be more combat personnel inside the pagoda. The Shrine Maidens are not a group that can be underestimated as they are the elite force of Vermillion City.

Just as they were about to open the door to the pagoda, screams suddenly erupted from the people behind Tai and Vixen. When they looked back, their men were suddenly getting dragged inside of the shadows. They would be dragged by shadows or chains that come out of the shadows. Tai and Vixen immediately noticed that the ground they are standing on is covered by one massive shadow.

“Get off the ground immediately!” Tai shouted but the weakened Kami members could not do so immediately and got dragged inside of it.

The Kami members were all falling to the shadows and chains until one of the Ascendant Immortals with them brandished her long staff and filled it with lightning. She then proceeded to slam the long staff and expelled the shadows from beneath their feet. The shadows shrunk as a result and all those that were dragged inside were expelled from the shadow dimension, but they were now dead.

“Show yourself, foul beast!” The long staff wielding Immortal shouted but Sirius did not do so.

Sirius then sent out shadow spikes towards the direction of the long staff wielding Immortal. The Immortal thought that she could defend against it as she was able to destroy the shadows earlier, but Sirius is not alone. Charon suddenly appeared behind her and proceeded to bound her with chains. Charon then proceeded to throw the long staff wielding Immortal away from the area she is currently in.

The sudden appearance of Charon shocked all of the Kami members because they did not notice him or even sense him. The long staff wielding Immortal got bound by chains and is slammed towards the shadow spikes. The long staff wielding Immortal got pierced by the shadow spikes, but she was still alive and hanging on to her life.

“Help me!” The long staff wielding Immortal stated weakly as she reached her hand out towards Tai.

Tai managed to get over the shock and charged towards her in his fastest pace using qigong, but he did not expect what happened next. The shadow spikes that they thought were made of pure magic suddenly turned into a large black wolf. Sirius appeared before the long staff wielding Immortal and proceeded to tear her in half using his large jaws.

All of the Kami members froze upon seeing one of their best members get killed in an instant. Sirius did not even chew as he immediately spat out the upper half of the long staff wielding Immortal as if he was disgusted by it. All of the Kami members that were planning to charge towards the door suddenly felt cold sweat. They did not dare move when such a fierce beast guarded the door and another powerful undead before them.

“Where is the undead with chains!?” One of the Kami members shouted as Charon once again vanished from their sight.

“Spread out! Whatever you need to do! Go inside the pagoda to take the citizens. We will win once we have them as hostages!” Tai shouted as he knew that working together is useless when their enemies can hide in shadows or somewhere else.

The Kami members agreed with what Tai said and immediately dispersed as they proceeded to look for alternative ways to enter the pagoda. Some even proceeded to jump high up in the air and enter it via the second-floor door. Those that arrived at the second-floor door opened it up and screamed in terror. They thought that they have won but it is actually one of the traps.
