...
Naruto smiled at the toad standing before him.
"Chief Fukasaku, how have you been?" Naruto greeted him.
The toad tilted his head, completely confused.
"Who are you? Aren’t you that boy who trained with Jiraiya-boy? I thought you’d look like the other one..." Fukasaku asked, still failing to recognize Naruto. Then, seeing him beside Jiraiya, he figured it could only be him. But he had expected him to look like the old one, after all, Jiraiya had spoken about his blond hair like his father’s...
His eyes turned back to Jiraiya-boy.
"Hello again, Fukasaku-sama." Jiraiya was far more polite than Naruto. After all, the toad before him had been his great master. There was no way he could treat him with anything less than the utmost respect he deserved.
"And yes, Fukasaku-sama. I brought him because we need to discuss some very important matters. I hope you can take us to the Great Sage," Jiraiya said.
Fukasaku nodded, though he still looked quite puzzled. "Of course... But I still need to know. Is it really that important for you to bring the boy?"
"Yes. Naruto, show him."
Naruto simply nodded. He already knew exactly what Jiraiya wanted. His eyes closed for a brief moment. When they opened again, yellow pigmentation appeared around his eyelids while his pupils took on the distinctive shape of a toad’s.
Fukasaku’s eyes widened.
"Th-That’s Sage Mode! You taught him Senjutsu outside Mount Myōboku, Jiraiya-boy?" Fukasaku shouted, completely stunned.
It simply didn’t make any sense.
And even more astonishing... Naruto’s Sage Mode looked far more perfect than Jiraiya’s own.
"That’s not what happened. We need to speak with the Great Sage. I promise we’ll explain everything," Jiraiya replied.
Fukasaku continued staring at Naruto for a few more seconds before finally nodding. "Very..." Still in disbelief, he watched Naruto dispel Sage Mode.
A short while later, he led the two of them deeper into Mount Myōboku. As they walked, Naruto observed the many toads scattered throughout the area.
He didn’t find Gamabunta, but he did spot Gamakichi resting in one corner, basking in the sunlight.
Naruto merely smiled faintly but decided not to disturb him. They continued walking until they finally entered the great cavern.
There he was... The same Great Toad Sage Naruto had met in the other world.
Naruto remembered perfectly what Minato had told him when they first met. According to his father from the other world, that ancient sage had trained Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki more than a thousand years ago to help him face his own mother. Naruto couldn’t help thinking about it.
Beside him, Jiraiya also walked in silence, looking at the Great Sage with an entirely different kind of admiration than before. After reading Minato’s scroll, he now knew that the old toad had been the mentor of the Sage of Six Paths himself over a thousand years ago...
It was he who had taught Hagoromo Senjutsu before the battle against Kaguya, when she had been trying to create an army of White Zetsu to confront a clan of extraterrestrial beings.
Even after everything they had discovered... It still seemed far too absurd.
Madara.
Black Zetsu.
Kaguya.
None of them had been the true end of the story.
All of that was merely a small part of the secrets that world concealed. Or rather... the secrets the universe itself concealed.
In the future, even more powerful enemies would emerge. The Ōtsutsuki Clan itself.
The Great Sage remained asleep.
Fukasaku cautiously stepped forward. "Great Sage... Great Sage..." he called softly.
Little by little, the old toad began to awaken, blinking slowly, though his eyes never fully opened.
"Oh, my boy... What do you want with me? And I see you’ve brought two humans. By the way... who are they?"
The Great Sage’s memory seemed to fail him once again. Jiraiya, already completely used to it, simply scratched the back of his head.
"It’s me, Great Sage. Jiraiya. That boy who came here to train decades ago." Jiraiya smiled awkwardly.
Naruto had to hold back a laugh. His father had told him that he had also needed to introduce himself to the Great Sage several times, and the old toad behaved almost exactly the same way.
"Ah... Yes, yes, yes... I remember now. You’re that boy who’s always peeping on human women in the baths, aren’t you?" the Great Sage replied.
Jiraiya looked even more embarrassed.
"Well... he’s not wrong about that," Naruto muttered.
The Great Sage slowly turned his face toward Naruto. "And you... Well... I don’t know you."
Fukasaku then stepped forward. "Great Sage, this is Jiraiya’s student. I don’t know exactly what happened, but he demonstrated something unbelievable. Sage Mode... even though he has never learned Senjutsu here at Mount Myōboku." Fukasaku paused briefly. "Do you know what that means?"
The old toad remained silent for several seconds. "Hmm... So this is your student..." His words carried a different weight.
Jiraiya knew that tone all too well. The ancient prophecy immediately returned to his mind. The Child of Prophecy...
The one who would change the world, for good or for ill. Naruto was about to respond, but the Great Sage spoke again before he could.
"You’re... strange." He continued staring at Naruto. "This isn’t the first time we’ve met, is it? But... the me you met... isn’t the same one."
He paused briefly, as though trying to organize his own thoughts. "Perhaps it was time travel... But I don’t remember you. Or perhaps... my memory has grown even worse."
Naruto couldn’t hide his surprise. The old toad had come incredibly close to the truth just by observing him for a few moments.
"That’s true. I’ve met you before." Naruto stepped forward. "But it wasn’t you from this world. And it wasn’t exactly time travel."
He took a deep breath. "I trained at the Mount Myōboku of another world. A different parallel reality from this one—similar, but different, with different events..."
The Great Sage simply nodded. "Hmm... I see..." He seemed to accept the explanation with surprising ease. "Interesting... Very interesting..."
Fukasaku, on the other hand, widened his eyes. "Another world...?" he murmured, completely astonished. "Can such a thing really exist?" His eyes immediately turned back to the Great Sage.
After all, the subject was certainly beyond everything he himself knew.
"Time... Space... Dimensions..." the old toad began speaking slowly. "They are realities that not even we... not even the so-called gods of this world... or other beings... can fully comprehend."
He remained silent for a few moments before continuing. "Everything is far too vast. The universe and its laws are much greater than we imagine."
Fukasaku continued listening attentively.
"Just as I can sometimes glimpse fragments of the future through prophecies... there are phenomena that simply happen." The Great Sage smiled faintly. "We don’t always need to understand something to accept that it exists. Seeing the future... delivering prophecies... all of that should be impossible in the eyes of most people."
He turned his attention back to Naruto. "If I can glimpse the future... who can say that there aren’t other realities beyond this one?" The old toad closed his eyes once more. "No one truly knows..."
"Well... it’s alright, as long as that other world doesn’t affect ours..." he murmured at last.
Naruto nodded. "That’s exactly it. I was in another world where events unfolded differently from this one. Nothing that happened there affects this reality. But I remained there for six months and learned many things. I trained both at Mount Myōboku and in many other areas."
As he spoke, Naruto quickly released the natural energy around him. Nature chakra began enveloping him almost instantly.
"I learned... Sage Mode."
The Great Sage observed Naruto for a few moments. "Interesting... Very interesting..."
Then he turned his eyes toward Jiraiya. "Jiraiya... Do you believe this child is the Child of Prophecy?"
If that question had been asked just one day earlier, Jiraiya would never have answered with such conviction. Naruto had always been special. But he still hadn’t believed that his student truly was the Child of Prophecy.
It was no coincidence that, upon meeting Pain, he had begun to think that Nagato might be the one destined to change the world through the wrong path, completely abandoning the idea that Naruto was the chosen one.
Only shortly before his death did Jiraiya come to believe in Naruto once again, placing all of his hopes in him.
But that had been the original world. Now... everything had changed.
Naruto had demonstrated potential far beyond anything Jiraiya had ever imagined. And he still had room to grow, even though he was already more powerful than Minato himself had been at his peak.
How could he not believe in Naruto after that...?
Jiraiya smiled. "Yes."
The old toad let out a quiet chuckle. "Very good..."
...
Naruto was given permission to remain at Mount Myōboku for the day.
At Jiraiya’s request, the toads decided to test his Sage Mode simply to confirm that there were no problems or signs of instability.
Naruto had no objection to it, since he would only be staying at Mount Myōboku for that day before returning to the village.
However... Jiraiya’s sudden departure did not go unnoticed.
While training with Fukasaku, Naruto noticed that the sannin’s chakra had disappeared completely from Mount Myōboku. Only a shadow clone remained there.
Naruto continued exchanging blows with Fukasaku, and the spar ended quickly. For someone who had fought Minato and Kushina while using Kurama Mode, facing Fukasaku in pure taijutsu enhanced by natural energy was a relatively simple task.
"Jiraiya-sensei... Where’s your real body?" Naruto asked immediately after leaving the training area, which had been left lightly damaged by their exchange of blows.
Jiraiya’s clone seemed surprised. "Ah... He went to take care of a few things. I stayed here just to keep you company until the end of the day."
Naruto stared at the clone in silence. He didn’t believe that answer.
"I felt that something was wrong when we left the village." He lowered his gaze for a moment. "But I was so excited about coming back to Mount Myōboku that I simply ignored that feeling."
Naruto sighed. "My father would be disappointed if he knew I let something like that slip by."
Then he looked back at Jiraiya’s clone. "You’ve been planning something, haven’t you? You’re keeping me away from the village for a reason."
Jiraiya’s clone’s eyes widened slightly, and Naruto asked again, "What’s going on?"
He still didn’t know whether it had anything to do with him directly. But he was certain of one thing. Something was happening in Konoha.
Jiraiya’s clone immediately raised both hands. "Easy, Naruto. We’re not doing anything against you. We’d never do that," he explained quickly. "It’s about other things. Things we thought it would be better to keep you away from for now. We’re handling the situation."
Naruto didn’t like that answer at all. Even so, he felt somewhat relieved when he realized they truly had no intention of doing anything against him. At least, he believed the clone’s words.
"Then tell me exactly what’s going on. What kind of situation is serious enough that even with my strength, I have to stay away?" he asked firmly. "If you don’t tell me, I’ll return to the village right now. I have more than enough chakra to teleport from here back to Konoha."
Naruto was practically an inexhaustible source of chakra. His father had explained that, by using Kushina’s chakra, it would even be possible to travel all the way to the Moon. Compared to that, returning to Konoha was something simple.
Realizing he had no way out, Jiraiya’s clone let out a long sigh. "Your father from that other world, Minato, left some information in that scroll. Information you didn’t know yet."
Naruto narrowed his eyes. The scroll his father had given him. He himself had handed it over so Tsunade and the others could read it, just as Minato had requested. He simply hadn’t imagined they would keep part of its contents from him.
"What was written in it?"
Jiraiya seemed to debate with himself before answering. "It’s something extremely dangerous. He wrote about certain people with particularly troublesome abilities... After you demonstrated your powers, we came to the conclusion that Danzō might try to use an ocular technique to control you."
"Control me? Don’t be ridiculous, Jiraiya-sensei," Naruto replied indignantly.
But the clone’s serious expression stopped him from saying anything else. "Listen, Naruto. I’m serious." Jiraiya’s expression changed completely. "Danzō possesses a special Sharingan—a hidden Mangekyō Sharingan. An eye capable of completely manipulating a person’s will. With a single glance, he could reshape you into a completely loyal subordinate."
Naruto remained motionless.
"And we’ve seen your strength. We couldn’t allow him to use that eye against you. Just imagine the kind of enemy you would become if Danzō managed to take control of someone with your power."
Those words made Naruto freeze.
A Mangekyō Sharingan... When it came to those eyes, nothing was ever simple.
"That Mangekyō Sharingan belonged to an Uchiha named Shisui. He was considered one of the clan’s greatest prodigies and a close companion of Itachi Uchiha, Sasuke’s brother. People even said he was more talented than Itachi, despite being a few years older. Itachi considered him his best friend."
Jiraiya continued. "When Shisui died, he left one of his eyes to Itachi. But before that, the other one was stolen by Danzō."
Danzō.
Minato had already warned him to be careful around that man. Naruto had also noticed Root members following and watching his every move ever since he had returned to the village.
Then Minato’s voice echoed through his mind. ’Naruto, always analyze the situation. You can’t throw yourself into something without understanding what’s happening. Observe first. Then think it through. Only after that should you make a decision. Never act on emotion alone. It could put both you and your comrades in danger.’
His father’s voice always brought him clarity. Naruto had always acted too quickly, driven by his emotions. But he wanted to become Hokage. A Hokage needed to know how to analyze.
He needed to think things through. He couldn’t simply rush headfirst into every danger the way he had done for practically his entire life.
Naturally, Naruto was torn. He couldn’t simply yell at Jiraiya, corner him, or ignore everything he had just heard.
He could also understand their point of view.
If there really was a Sharingan with such an absurd ability, capable of completely controlling another person’s mind... then if Danzō succeeded in manipulating him, it would undoubtedly be the worst possible outcome.
But... at the same time... Naruto let out a quiet sigh.
Suddenly, he began sensing tiny fragments of his own chakra activating.
One.
Then another.
And another.
All of them inside the village, and his eyes widened. Ever since returning, Naruto had discreetly left small portions of Kurama’s chakra within various people. While greeting his friends, touching the jōnin, and even during the fight that morning, he had spread those fragments without anyone noticing.
It had been a precaution. Each of those fragments would automatically react if the person carrying it was placed in danger.
And at that exact moment... several of them had activated simultaneously. That could only mean one thing...
Jiraiya’s clone’s eyes widened as well. Before he could say anything, Naruto was already weaving a series of hand seals.
The next instant, his Jinchūriki Mode activated. Golden chakra completely enveloped his body.
FLASH!
Naruto vanished, not even waiting for Jiraiya’s response.
Fukasaku, who had silently watched the entire conversation, remained completely astonished.
By the time he realized it... Naruto was no longer at Mount Myōboku.
He had already returned to the Hidden Leaf Village. Because, at that very moment... a fierce battle had already begun in the middle of the village.
